Life should come with an instruction manual.

Because nothing in mine to date has equipped me to deal with it.

My mom is lost in her own world of drugs, gambling, alcohol, tobacco and the worst possible choices in men. If she’s even still alive. My dad, well, I don’t know who he is or where he is which is why this group home has been my home off and on since I was three.

A girl with anger issues and only one leg isn’t really first in line to get adopted by the shiny, goodhearted people who stroll in here looking for a dream kid. In fact, sometimes they don’t even bother bringing me out for show. There’s no point, even though Mom signed off her rights to me. Like selling a used car, or giving one away.

So, now that I’ve turn eighteen, they treat me as all children are who have grown out of the foster system. They put me out on my own with fifty bucks in my pocket and disappointment written on my forehead. Oh and a few months of rent in an apartment building that looks like a crime scene documentary location shoot.

Survival is my only plan for life. Get a job. Rent a place to lay my head where no one can hit me and no creepy foster dad can try to sneak into my bedroom in the middle of the night. Eat. Sleep. Rinse. Repeat.

I’m not a dreamer. Never have been. A shifter female with only one leg has no choice: survive and stay under the radar.

Mangled is the first in the brand new Ridgewood Rogue Wolf Saga series featuring a heroine with greater physical challenges than most and a background that no young adult should be saddled with, a pack of misfits, three of the hottest possible wolves who may be her fated mates, and maybe just enough determination to make a better life. Or even a great one. It is a why choose, slow-burn romance and, of course, Mazzie guarantees a happily ever after. Eventually.

I don’t normally read New Adult, but the premise of this story attracted me. Heroine Charlotte has just aged out of her group home and is on her own for the first time. Charlotte isn’t any old 18-year-old, but a wolf shifter with a prosthetic leg. She rents a seedy apartment and finds a job as a housecleaner, not realizing she’ll be working for a ragtag pack of wolf shifters, a few of whom have taken a personal interest in her. Mangled is the first part of a slow-burn duet. I really liked Charlotte's spunk, and I’m eagerly looking forward to the second installment.

Dnf 56%. The MC's reactions to things just seemed inconsistent or unbelievable in a lot of cases, and I finally hit my breaking point with it.

I like the idea of this book, but it was jumping around a lot and also introduced the shifter-thing very weirdly and then just assumed you knew most things about shifterculture already, and even when the FMC didn’t it wasn’t explaied to her and us, just skipped forward to after she had been told more. Very strange and took away from the story.

This has a good storyline and will keep you wanting to read. I will say that I wish in some parts of the story we could have gone into more depths. Charlotte was born with just a mother who lost her way and then gave her up. Growing up in foster care was not the best for her and she had to learn to shut herself off. Now She is 18 and on her own. She is loving it but needs to support herself. She gets a job and things seem to be going well, until there not. Follow her journey to survive on her own of course we are left with a cliffhanger. Can't wait for the next book.

Mangled de Mazzy J. March serie Ridgewood Rogue Wolves libro 1

Argumento:

Comer. Dormir. Enjuagar. Repetir.

This is book one of the Ridgewood Rogue Wolves Saga series and the main character is Char (Charlotte), who has lived in various bad foster placements and in a group home for years, after her mother could no longer even bother to look after her. She wasn’t any sort of first pick for foster parents as she lost one leg in a horrific animal attack when she was young, leaving her on crutches and in a wheelchair, until she was finally granted a prosthetic leg. She has just turned eighteen and has a final meeting with her social worker, as she has now aged out of the system. She is set up in a small and grubby studio flat in town with her rent at least paid for an initial six months, and only fifty dollars to keep her going. She only has a few well-worn clothes and a couple of bits and pieces to move in with. First things first, she needs to find herself a job, any job she can find, so she can at least feed herself. She certainly doesn’t want to follow her mother’s slide into drugs and alcohol, and losing her place in the world. She has been used as a slave by many of her foster parents, used to clean and do anything they wanted done in their houses or gardens, with a bare minimum to eat. She could certainly do with being fattened up, but hasn’t the funds for anything but basics yet.
The local small grocery shop has a bulletin board and she looks at the notices there after doing her meagre shop. There is a job offered for a housekeeper just outside of town, but a local sees her looking at it and tries to dissuade her from applying, saying the people there are dangerous. She takes the whole leaflet down and has to search for a payphone to call for an interview. She has to be there early the next morning and has to walk as she can’t afford a vehicle yet, and finds a large and what would have been impressive, but is now rundown old mansion building and assorted buildings nearby. A woman called Lynn takes her in and asks her some questions and then sets her off to work. She will get paid at the end of each day and the main house has years of dirt accumulated on it, so it will take some time to make clean. There seems to be large numbers of people entering and leaving the house and one in particular she gets a really bad vibe off. Something she has gotten used to in various foster placements over the years. The people there are all wolf shifters, but she didn’t know that to start with. Her own wolf she hasn’t allowed out for years and has repressed her, believing no one wants to see a three legged wolf and she can’t even run, so is of no use. She needs to work hard and deal with her issues of trust around others and stay out of trouble so she doesn’t lose her job.
This pack is made up of all kinds of wolves, most either rejected or forced out of their packs and Lynn gathered them all together and brought them to this land she owned, so they can make a proper home together. She met one of the young men, Vincent in town and is offered a lift by another, Andrew in his truck he calls Emily, after Lynn asks him to make sure she gets home okay. She has landed on her feet with this job as Lynn is like a mother hen, feeding everyone and helping to organise everything. When she finishes with the house, she thinks that will be the end of her job, but Lynn says she is welcome to continue working there and that she can even move in if she wants to. Lynn can always find other jobs for her and even sets her up to tidy up the men’s construction gear and supplies, so they can start work more efficiently. This leads her to meet Neville, who is in charge of building some more homes and asks for her help one day afterwards, then asks her out on a proper date! Her first ever. Now she has Andrew asking as well and he is happy to share! Not something she is used to at all! She gets home one night and someone has been there while she was out and absolutely trashed the place. Whether they were looking for something or not is unclear, as she didn’t exactly have much to start with. It may be linked to a break-in at the group home where a load of kids files were stolen, but why and how did they know who she was? Luckily Andrew had seen her to the door, so was there to ensure she was safe. She definitely won’t be staying there and the flat is now uninhabitable, so she is homeless and won’t be getting any sort of security deposit back, nor another place to stay that the local council will pay for!
A twisted end to the first book with lots of questions to be answered about the break-ins and whether Char was actually being targeted for some reason or not. Lynn had always told her she could stay with the pack, but this was her very own space for the first time in her life, where no one else would just walk in or limit how long she could be in the shower or bath, nor what she could eat. It was a huge part of her new independence and now it is gone! I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book, now she has been told more about the pack setup and hierarchy, so will hopefully be more keen to allow her own wolf to be let out of where she pushed her so long ago, and see if she can run free as a shifter at last. The town was home to a lot of the foster parents who chose her and then dumped her back in the system, sometimes after only hours or days, with no reason. Even the local priest who tried to get a little bit too handsy in her bedroom one night and his wife blamed her! Maybe she will be better off away from these prejudiced people and their opinions, which belittle her at every step. She has found most of the pack welcoming, especially Lynn and now has at least three young men about her age, who seem very keen on getting to know her! What a turn for the better and maybe some romance, if she doesn’t shoot them down first! I can’t wait to read the next book as soon as I can. Definitely a different kind of wolf shifter story and a great but damaged main character. I received an ARC copy of this book from the author and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

I liked this and I'll be honest and say that I liked it more than I thought I would. I've read Mazzy's work before and while the previous stories were nice but they didn't make me curious, I didn't feel invested. I'm always willing to give things another try and I'm glad I did with this one. Mangled was a quick and interesting read, I really enjoyed it and best of all I'm invested. Invested in the characters and interested in seeing where the plot goes.

This single perspective story centers on eighteen-year-old Charlotte as she ages out of the foster system and is trying to build her new adult life. To say that Charlotte has been through a lot in her life is an understatement, she's had to deal with a lot of things and only had the support of one person her caseworker Doctor Mac. Charlotte isn't a trusting person, people have let her downtime and time again. Her past experiences have shaped her into being a little timid and even while she doesn't have the confidence that she will make a better life after foster care she is still trying. She works hard, is determined to keep her head down, and is smart and realistic about things.

Three guys have come into Charlotte's life and they seem to be good guys with a genuine interest in Charlotte. Mangled is a slow-burn romance and with the story being short there really wasn't much about them, in the next book would love more interaction with the guys so I can get a better idea of them. Another notable character was Lynn, Charlotte's new employer. The woman has an open heart and treats Charlotte with care and understanding that she never had. I adored this woman and hope that she continues to help Charlotte open up.

There were some moments that I questioned but other than that the plot was great. I liked seeing Charlotte overcome the odds, finding a place to belong, opening up herself to people, and learning the shifter culture. Best of all there was an interesting plot point. There is a vibe going on, something going on in the background that just comes to light at the very end. Mangled ended with a shocking cliffhanger that has me pondering about all the possible explanations and has me wonder where the story is going next.

Short but good

I was a bit shocked how short is this book (and so will be the next ones). Maybe writing two longer book instead of four short ones would have been better...🧐?)

The cover of this book caught instantly my attention because of the FMC having a leg prothesis. It's new and original and it interested me.

We follow the story of Charlotte, an 18 years old girl who lived almost all her life in the foster care system. Charlotte has been attacked when she was 5 by a wolf (not very clear here) and lost her leg during the attack. We understood that Charlotte is a shifter but didn't shift anymore neither talk to her wolf. She now has a prothesis and has to cope with her disability. At 18 years, she just has been released from the foster care system and has to live by herself. She found a job of cleaner in a community of people newly arrived in her town. Quickly, her boss, Lynn, developped a fondness for Charlotte and decided to take care of her. Then Charlotte met three guys living and working in the community, Andrew, Neville, and Vincent, and began to develop feeling for them...

This is a good beginning for this story. I never got bored, it flows nicely and I'm very interested knowing more about Charlotte and her past. For the moment we just have flashback of this attack but there is way more behing it I guess. The relationship between her and the guys is slowly growing. The guys were instantly drawned to her but Charlotte is wary, having being fooled and mistreated by so many people in her past. All this makes the story realistic and captivating.

Could use a bit of work, but LOVE the story line so far!

Quick note: I've already read the author's other series that starts with Survivor, the wolf shifter in the wheelchair. I couldn't help but be reminded of those book while reading this, but now it makes sense! I LOVE how she uses characters with disabilities or challenges, giving new spins on this genre of stories!

Now, about this book SPECIFICALLY. There's some inconsistencies that I had to keep going back to look into to be sure I wasn't going crazy. Spelling and inconsistencies are two of my biggest pet peeves when reading. Thankfully a good story line will make me keep going despite that, if it isn't TOO bad.
In the very first chapter, for example, it's said the main character has a flip phone, but then later she doesn't appear to have it - she doesn't program her social worker's number in, and when she wants to call about a job, she says she needs to find a pay phone and that one day she'll get herself a cheap phone.
Second, after she gets a job, she's cleaning a bathroom while wearing gloves covered in cleaning chemicals when a creep walks in, so doesn't shake his hand. A couple chapters later she mentions she'll have to request gloves to clean next time.

It's just small things like this for the most part, but again, the story line is really drawing me in so I just look past them, despite them sticking out to me quite easily. I'm still going to be reading through these happily!

I actually enjoyed this book

i read survivor and wasn’t a fan .( i didnt like that all it takes is shift and boom your not wheelchair bond anymore )

i like that our fmc is relatable. Like yea she has a prosthetic but she doesn’t dwell on it
just taking it day by day .
And not a heroine who swears their non confrontational but run head first into trouble not understanding how they got there.

Example : when there was a fight Charlotte left the area and sat calm waiting for it to end she doesn’t enjoy fights or loud noises and left that situation than try to stop it or become a sobbing heroine in distress thats so overdone in the RH genre.

Also alot of shifter RH the packs are all rich this one is a pleasure to read about because everyone wants some footing or a sense of belonging. there building a community even though there not wealthy.

I enjoy its not insta romance and boy crazy insta love.
Were meeting the characters. The plot is unfolding its like at the perfect pace for a saga .

I do have questions like:
Is the therapist holding back some information since she had a break-in ?
Is Vincent a twin or triplet ?
What other types of shifters will we meet in lynns community of misfits ?
The cabins in the back were the trees are what type of shifters need that type of solace?

Book one of this new series revolves around Charlotte leaving the group home she is in and finding her way in the world as an independent 18 year old. She had a really rough childhood and lost part of her leg when she was very young but she has an inner resilience that keeps her going. When she finds a job she also begins making friends. This book lays the groundwork for what is to come and if this is like Ms. March's other series, the story will come together one step and one book at a time. I am always delighted when a new book comes out and although I hate to wait, I will jump on the next book as soon as it is available. If you don't like to be left hanging you may want to wait until the series is complete, or you can have your appetizer now.

Charlotte is at the beginning of her new life. She is finally out on her own. All she needs to do is find a job so she can be completely independent. She finds that job just out of town with a new group of people. Lynn is kind enough to give Charlotte her first job. Lynn also tells Charlotte about them all being shifters. Charlotte has been adopted into their pack. Unfortunately, things are going to change again for Charlotte.

This is a great beginning to a new series and I cannot wait to read more.

I really enjoyed this book. It was refreshing to read a story with an FMC that wasn't "society's idea of perfect." The FMC has a pretty big disability but her inner strength is very admirable. I really enjoyed the book but I gave it 4 stars because some places dragged for me...I understand it's the1st in a series so there is all the world and character set up going on. I will definitely be reading the 2nd book because I am dying to see where the author takes this!

After reading this book I had to take a little time to compose myself and get my thoughts clear in my head before I put them in a review.
Wow this book was amazingly written. Once I started I couldn’t put it down till I was finished. This book has twists and turns you don’t know what’s happening. will they all get there happily ever after or will it all go wrong. To find out what happens go buy the book. You won’t be disappointed I wasn’t.

This was a great read and so down to earth. Charlotte was finally free of the state foster program and was determined to make it despite her disability. Once she finally finds a job, she starts to learn more about herself and what it means to be a shifter. Lynn and her pack of misfit shifters take to her quickly and she finally sees that not everyone wants something from her that she isn't willing to give. The mystery at the end was out of the blue and I can not wait to read the next one.

Okay...

I was intrigued by the premise but nothing is explain ever in this entire "book". Nothing had happened and we know nothing more about the protagonist and the end that want known in the beginning. And the cliffhanger and the end is so aggravating and feels so clunky. I want the author to just finish book one and book two should naturally evolve from it - it shouldn't be to be forced.

3.5. Really enjoyed. Other than the description it’s not mentioned that she’s a shifter until a random point. Like “yea… we know you’re a shifter. We are too”. Lol. Very random.
I have a hard time differentiating Neville and Vincent. For some reason they’ve blurred together in my mind. Andrew stands out. Mostly cuz he’s always driving her home. Love Lana. It’s very slow burn. But with a traumatic MC past that works better.
After the ending I’m jumping right into the next one

SO FAR I LIKE THIS SERIES! THE BOOK WAS A FAST READ! I WASN’T EXPECTING THE ENDING! AT ALL. BUT VERY HAPPY TO BE ABLE TO JUST JUMP INTO THE NEXT BOOK. I’VE DECIDED NO MORE UNFINISHED SERIES FOR ME! I HATE WAITING FOR NEW RELEASES! I HAVE NO PATIENCE! I’M TOO OLD FOR IT. I COULD DIE BEFORE I KNOW HOW MY BOOKS END, NO THANK YOU! I GET TO INVESTED! I READ OVER 1400 BOOKS LAST YEAR! READING IS MY LIFE! NO TV FOR ME! I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK! HAPPY READING!

Interesting

I love the heroine has a physical imperfection and that it is actually part of the story not just mentioned and forgotten. Representation really means a lot and I'm glad authors are taking the time to include people that might otherwise be ignored.
I am interested enough in the story to continue.

I actually really liked this book! It was pretty short (around 150ish pages), so I finished it rather quickly. I am actually going to be reading the second book in the series (shocker, I know), because of that cliffhanger.

I like what I have read so far, and I am excited to see what else happens in the series :)

Great read!

I loved the characters and the development of the book. However, when Charlotte and Lynn talk about the pack and her being a shifter. It felt stilted and rushed. Overall was a great read and am excited for the next book in the series!

An interesting premise and beginning to this paranormal romance adventure story. Our heroine has just aged out f foster care and is an amputee and abuse survivor with serious trust issues. She’s trying to make a life on her own. I liked it but it ends abruptly.
