In 1964, a group of scientists called the Los Alamos Five came close to finishing a nuclear energy project for the United States government when they were abruptly disbanded. Now the granddaughter of one of those five scientists, aerospace engineer Elinor Mitchell, discovers that she has highly sensitive information on the project in her possession--and a target on her back.

SNAP agent and former Navy cryptologist Kekoa Young is tasked with monitoring Elinor. This is both convenient since she's his neighbor in Washington, DC, and decidedly inconvenient because . . . well, he kind of likes her.

As Elinor follows the clues her grandfather left behind to a top-secret nuclear project, Kekoa has no choice but to step in. When Elinor learns he has been spying on her, she's crushed. But with danger closing in on all sides, she'll have to trust him to ensure her discoveries stay out of enemy hands.

Natalie Walters sucks you into the global race for space domination in this perfectly paced second installment of her SNAP Agency romantic suspense series.

Characters: As much as I liked the suspenseful plot, I have to admit that the characters were my favorite part of this book. I loved the way Kekoa's team worked together and how they were always kidding around with each other. I really liked Kekoa. He wasn't your average romantic suspense hero, and that made me like him all the more. His sense of humor was great, and his tragic backstory added to the plot. I also enjoyed reading about Elinor. She was a great match for Kekoa, and her sweetness and intelligence added to the plot.

Language: Clean.

Moral: This novel involved themes of family and God's care. The hymn "His Eye Is on the Sparrow" reminded Elinor that God was watching over her, and this knowledge brought her comfort especially during the times when she was in danger.

Plot: Wow! This plot had plenty of action and suspense. No boring moments there. I really enjoyed the humor threaded through the scenes as well.

Romance: Clean. Just kissing. I loved the scenes where Kekoa and Elinor were getting to know each other. These scenes had lots of humor and hints of sweet romance.

Writing: Natalie Walters's clear, fast-paced writing style worked great for this book. I was able to easily picture what was going on.

Overall: Fatal Code was an exciting read, and I'd recommend it to those who enjoy Christian fiction and romantic suspense. I'm looking forward to the third book in the series!

Disclosure: I received this book free from Revell through Interviews & Reviews. The opinions I have expressed are my own, and I was not required to write a positive review. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

My personal Rating- Two Stars

Like the first book in this series, I really wanted to like this one.
But, well. Hmm.

I did like the friend group more in this second book and Kekoa grew on me. Not gonna lie, the aerospace/nuclear stuff was lost on me, but I tried to keep up as well as I could. I did really like Kekoa and Elinor together and figured there would be a third-act break-up because of The Secret of his job. It was settled quickly and the overall pacing was good. The romance was definitely the lightest from the books I’ve read by this author and I really appreciated that.

There was a comment that I wasn’t a fan of. A villain threatening Elinor with gang rape and because she’s part Korean, the men will make her want to die because of what they’ll do it her. It goes into a bit more and it honestly shocked me to see. It was disgusting and, yes, it came from a bad guy, but it was unsettling. In addition to that, because we see some of the villains’ point of views and them killing without remorse, it added a heaviness to the story that I wasn’t expecting.

A more minor thing, but more frequently mentioned, is casual drinking and though neither of our main characters drink, other side characters do and it’s looked upon as a normal thing.

Due those elements, I felt like I had to drop the ratings.

This new story in The SNAP Agency series is so good! Kekoa Young is a cryptologist, formerly of the Navy, and now with the private agency that does internal investigations for companies. When he is assigned to investigate his neighbor, he doesn't want to do it. The more that he gets to know Elinor Mitchell, the more he knows she is not guilty of what it looks like she has done but he found the evidence himself.
Elinor is a cute, nerdy aerospace engineer, who is leading a group of other engineers to develop a special project hoping to be used in the newly formed Space Force. The company head has hired SNAP to find out who might be selling company secrets, but he didn't expect it to be Elinor. It appears emails are being sent from her company email selling project secrets. Her grandfather was one of the Los Alamos Five, thought to be working on a nuclear project. She has some of his old codes never used in some books left to her by her Gramps but doesn't know it. When she puts some codes on the Forum to get help decoding them, she puts herself in the view of foreign countries. But is there more going on than it appears?
The chemistry between Kekoa and Elinor is sweet, funny, and special. But things really ramp up and get dangerous as ruthless people fight to get what they want for their countries. It was hard to put the book down near the end. This is a great addition and highly recommended for a suspenseful, edgy read with a thread of faith and sweet romance.

I really enjoyed this page-turner from Natalie Walters. I thoroughly enjoyed this multilayered story that weves a layer of history into the romantic suspense. Kekoa is a great hero and Elinor is a great nerdy heroine. Loved that her quirk was science jokes on her tshirts. Both are isolated in different ways and have to chose to trust each other. Add in mystery and a bit of suspense and this was a truly enjoyable read.

Fatal Code is a good addition to the SNAP Agency series. The author really kept me guessing as to who the villains were and what exactly they were after from Elinor. It was clear that she was being framed, yet whoever was behind everything was definitely masterful in the way they carried out their plans.

I liked reading about Kekoa and Elinor getting to know each other. They were definitely a good match. They both were extremely smart and both of them had a good sense of humor. Sometimes the story dragged a bit for me, but once I hit the halfway mark in the book, it really took off.

I had formed a bit of a different image of Kekoa in book one. A larger man, yet not the muscled physique that was described in this story. Yet, that was an easy fix in my mind. His excessive use of certain Hawaiian phrases wore on me a bit, but that did fit his character from book one, so it made sense.

Overall, I enjoyed the story. I believe it could be enjoyed as a stand alone novel if you have not read book one in the series. I am now looking forward to reading book three and following Lyla and Garcia’s journey.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Kekoa Young, whose name means: The Brave One, feels anything but brave since his brother died in a surfing accident. After all, he is just a cryptologist, a computer nerd and does not feel qualified to protect anyone. But when he meets Elinor, his protective instincts go into high gear.
This is another- hold on to your seats- thrilling adventure about the SNAP Agency. Even though I know very little about codes, the author brought them to life and made them an integral part of the story. I learned a lot about this unit of colleagues and friends who work in Washington DC.
The many layers made it hard to discover the bad guys behind the scenes. Someone was trying to steal the notebooks that were all that was left from the grandfather Elinor loved. Among the excitement and danger, Ms. Walters inserts humor, romance and shows us how the characters rely on God. Elinor holds on to the song: His Eye Is On The Sparrow. Sparrow was a nickname given to her by her grandfather, so she frequently recalls that God is watching over her.
I really enjoy Ms. Walters’ writing and will anxiously await the next book.

'God, if You're there, I could use a win tonight.'

When I read Natalie Walters's first book, I knew right then I wanted to follow her. Her work has only gotten better! Seriously. I love this new series featuring the SNAP agency. Walters has populated the group with really wonderful characters from the very beginning and leaves the reader wanting to read all each of their stories. When I first met Kekoa Young in the first book, I was just so excited to read his story and it did not disappoint.

Tasked with a seemingly impossible quest, the SNAP agency must up their game this time, as Kekoa is asked to keep an eye on his neighbor, Elinor Mitchell, who is in possession of super sensitive information. But Kekoa likes her and refuses to believe she is the enemy.

Walters ramps up the suspense to a frightening degree here with a plot that is both intriguing and thrilling, racing toward a powerful conclusion, as well as delves into the deep emotional hurts of her characters as they struggle to do the right thing. I was in from the very first page and I love when that happens. Well done!

My thanks to Revell Publishing for a copy of this book via Net Galley. The review here is my own opinion.

SO good! I absolutely loved 'meeting' Kekoa in the first book of the series, and was happy to see that his story would be told in the second. I remember the slight 'meetcute' with Elinor in the first book, and was intrigued to know that she would be his 'other half'.
While the romance was sweet, it was definitely the action and the mystery that had me turning pages quickly. At first, I had some thoughts about what was going on, and though I did eventually figure out one angle, there were other things I had NOT suspected.
I also really appreciated the scenes with both Elinor and Kekoa surrendering their hearts and lives back over to God after having taken a 'leave of absence' from following Him.
4.5 stars and I can't wait to read the next book! (which, and I checked, has no current title nor release date listed on GR . . . GAH! (lol))

I really liked this one!

Fatal Code by Natalie Walters
This book was super enjoyable!

I knew when it was going to be about Kekoa that it would possibly be my favorite, but I have to say, I liked it even better than the first one! There was just so much to love in these characters and I personally found a lot more to relate to them than the MC’s from the first book.

I love Brynn and Jack, don’t get me wrong, but Kekoa and Elinor just hit different.

These characters were going through their own grief and pain, all while trying to stop a nuclear snafu. Go figure.

The nerdy aspect of this book was so well done. The science was not only believable, but super interesting surrounding codes, code breaking, computer programming and scientific intelligence from a government’s perspective as well as on the global scale.

I truly love the SNAP agency. These characters are friends who are more like family and it shows. Walters doesn’t just show the beneficial aspects of that either, she takes you into the raw and gritty and hard and sometimes hurtful aspects of close relationships and pulls on your emotions in a way that reminds you how real it is.

I was also pleased by a sweet, clean and enjoyable romance without all the extra sensual garbage that seems to be slipping into books these days. I loved how their relationship was real and filled with attraction, but how it was also healthier in the aspect that it showed characters falling in love with personalities as well as physical attractions.

Because these personalities are hard not to love!

Something that I found enjoyable about this book is that it was filled with the quiet, personality and character developing moments without being a ‘fight off death on every single page” adventure. I appreciated the suspense and thriller aspects being broken up by slice of life moments that hit the heart.

CHEEHOO!! This series continues to be phenomenal! I loved Kekoa and Elinor. And wow... Kekoa's backstory! I did not see that coming. I adored Elinor's nerdiness and all of her t-shirts. I couldn't put this one down. The SNAP Agency team has this bond that I've not read in many team related books. They really are ohana and that shines through brilliantly. If you are a fan of romantic suspense, team dynamics, international intrigue, science nerds, and hunky heroes - give this book a try!

Fatal Code by Natalie Walters is the second book in her SNAP agency series and this one features computer wiz and former Navy cryptologist Kekoa Young. He is tasked with the surveillance of his beautiful aerospace engineer neighbor, Elinor Mitchell. She has been flagged with possible links of sensitive information from her deceased grandfather and is in serious danger from other countries willing to kill to get it.

Walters pens another page turning suspense with very likeable characters. When I read the first book, Lights Out, I knew I would love Kekoa's story because he is such a fun loving character, and it did not disappoint. His romantic interest is perfect for him. This book has plenty of action, suspense, wit, and romance. This story can be read as a stand alone, however, I would recommend reading them in order to get the full effect. You'd be so glad you did.

I loved this book SO MUCH. As much as I wanted to read it as soon as it released, I'm glad I waited because I was in the perfect season to read this one when I did finally get my hands on it.

First off, Natalie Walters excels at romantic suspense without overdoing the romance at the expense of the suspense, AND she includes a beautiful faith message as well! I had to listen to "His Eye is on the Sparrow" after reading this book, a song our female lead relates to many times during this book.

The suspense plot is great, and I loved catching all the little codes and jokes between Kekoa and Elinor. But honestly it was the characters that made this book. I loved them so much! I can honestly tell you I remember maybe 15% of the plot (that's probably due to this review being a week after I read the book, so my memory is fuzzy) but the characters are what made this story come alive for me.

The romance is cute, clean, humourous, and, ya know, Kekoa! Oh and speaking of plot, can we all just take a minute for that PLOT TWIST that I never suspected?? I won't say I'm brilliant but I nearly always guess a plot twist coming on and usually what it might be, but not this one!! This one was less adventure-suspense and more spy-thriller, but wow does it have action.

This review is not cohesive in the slightest but hopefully the main takeaway for y'all is that I loved it so much, and everyone needs to pick it up. That's all.

And after all those exclamation marks, I'm starting to feel like @a_brooke_and_her_books might've influenced this review 😂

Content Notes

Violence: gunshot wounds, attacks + assaults that happen in suspense books, not detailed

Romance: Very clean. I loved how much of the time spent between the two main leads was quietly spent getting to know each other.

Language: Clean, as far as I can remember.

Faith: Well done. Mentions of the hymn, "His Eye is on the Sparrow". Grief and healing are both major parts of this story, with a certain character still learning God is in control.

And because it deserved a mention, here's my favourite quote:

God's calling on Gideon's life was not to believe in his own capabilities but to trust that only in our weakness will we see God come through for us. It requires us to stake everything we believe, to surrender our lives, on our faith in God.

I couldn't wait to read Fatal Code since I enjoyed Lights Out so much. In that book we're introduced to Kekoa and his personality is larger than enough and filled with great humor. So I expected to see that.

What we got was a larger than life guy, but one who also had hidden wounds and insecurity. Couple that with a genius heroine and suspense and intrigue and you had a story that pulled you in.

There was so much to enjoy about this book and I can't wait to see what Natalie Walters has for us in book 3.

Have you read the story? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

Fatal Code is book 2 in The SNAP Agency series. I highly recommend reading Lights Out (and even the prequel Initium) before reading Fatal Code as it references events that occurred in the previous book.

On to my review…

Can I just start by saying I love Kekoa? If you’ve read Natalie Walters’ Harbored Secrets series, you may even recall he has a small role in Silent Shadows. In Lights Out, we learn he’s become a team-member of the SNAP Agency. Fatal Code gives us more of who Kekoa is and some of his back story. I think he’s a wonderful character—hunky and smart combined with a sweet and sensitive nature. I enjoyed the tension between Elinor and Kekoa as they got to know each other.

I especially enjoyed how this story had me laughing one moment at a character’s joke or silly antic, but then the next chapter had me crying. I literally needed a tissue once or twice. All the feels for me! There’s plenty of tension and suspense. And I didn’t figure out who the ultimate “bad guy” was until the reveal. (Good job, Natalie!)

I liked so many details about this story, one of my favorite aspects of the mystery being the use of ciphers and pseudocodes. So interesting!

I’m looking forward to reading Lyla and Garcia’s story in the next book!

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5)

SO GOOD! So, so, so good!

I knew reading the sneak peek at the end of book one that book two was a MUST! Reading the sneak peek for book three... I can't WAIT for it.

If you are a fan of Tom Clancy and James Patterson you're going to love Fatal Code! Suspense is the name of the game and a lot is on the line as the SNAP Agency tries to uncover the truth of who is giving sensitive information to the wrong people.

The author puts the reader on edge almost from the start as she gives us a good dose of people who could be the bad guy. As much as I tried to deduce who was stealing information I kept being waylaid by other details.

There's also a healthy dose of humor that gives the reader light moments in the midst of craziness. They're well placed and had me laughing out loud when I least expected it.

It was great coming back to the Ohana of the SNAP Agency. I can't think of another author who infuses Hawaiian culture and language in their story so I thoroughly enjoyed that element. Listen, if there's an 808 anywhere near me, I want to be included! Getting to know Kekoa in this story was exactly what I hoped for. We got to learn more about his backstory and what landed him with SNAP. There was a point in which my heart absolutely broke and my eyes were filled with tears.

Elinor was a FANTASTIC character and I think SO many girls would love to get know her. She's a fabulous example of women involved in STEM and careers that are more men centered. She's nerdy and embraces it! Sadly, that career is on the line because everything points to her as to being the one feeding information to the wrong people. Also, she is absolutely perfect for Kekoa!

Of course, the rest of the SNAP Agency is involved in solving the mystery of who is involved so we get to spend time with them again and are able to learn a bit more of how they tick. The way they work together isn't always perfect, but they are Ohana and have each others back. Once again they make the reader want to be part of that family.

This is easily one of my favorite suspense series and I'm champing at the bit for book three!! I can't wait for Garcia & Lyla's story.

Natalie has done it again! Fatal Code is a prime example of why she has quickly become one of my favourite authors, and I will never hesitate to read anything she has written. The plot lines are absolutely fantastic, her characters are raw and real, and I love the humour she sprinkles liberally throughout the dialogue. Kekoa was hands-down my favourite character in Lights Out, so I've been (impatiently) anticipating his story for months now, and jumped at the chance to read an early copy.

Aerospace engineer Elinor Mitchell is the granddaughter of one of the Los Alamos Five--a group of scientists who had designed a project for the US government in the mid 1960s before being dissolved without warning. In her efforts to decode one of her grandfather's notebooks, Elinor posts a single line on an online forum and instantly becomes a target. As a member of the SNAP Agency and a former Navy cryptologist, Kekoa Young has been tasked with the job of keeping an eye on his potentially criminal next-door neighbour. The only problem? He kinda-sorta, reeeaaally likes her, despite his best efforts to keep her in the friend zone. Plus, he's quickly convinced that there is absolutely no way Elinor is guilty of the crimes the agencies are accusing her of committing. Oh, and did I mention he isn't interested in a relationship? There's a lot at stake here, and it will take everything Kekoa and SNAP have to keep Elinor alive long enough to uncover the truth.

Kekoa was such an amazing hero. Tragically losing his brother has left him with a shattered heart and the inability to allow anyone close enough to hurt him again. I loved seeing the ways his family, Elinor, and ultimately God helped him work through his pain and see that loving really is worth everything it might cost. I also really enjoyed seeing his Hawaiian culture play a big part in the story. I loved Elinor's nerdy science jokes (her t-shirts were pretty great too) and Kekoa's sense of humour throughout the book as well. There was so much to love about Fatal Code, but you'll have to read it yourself to see the rest!

Fatal Code gets an easy 5/5 stars as one of my favourite books so far this year. Anyone who loves romantic suspense will want to add this one to their TBR asap!

Fatal Code is the second book in the Snap Agency series. Natalie Walters definitely upped her game with this series. Fatal Code follows Lights Out and I would encourage you to read them in order to get the most out of the series.

In Fatal Code, SNAP agent Kekoa Young moves in next to Elinor Mitchell. As a native Iowan, I love that this book starts out in Iowa, although sadly it is at Elinor's grandfather's funeral service. Kekoa and Elinor get to know each other as neighbors. At the same time, Kekoa is also spying on her as part of a SNAP case, which could complicate things. Elinor works as an aerospace engineer and is also trying to solve the mysterious code left behind in some of her grandfather's notebooks. Kekoa is not only an agent but also a former navy cryptologist so he tries to help her--along with keeping an eye on her to see if she is behind some wrongdoing or not.

Fatal Code is full of fast-paced action. I like that there are really two mysteries to solve--who is selling secrets to the Russians in Elinor's name. Also, what is the meaning of Elinor's grandfather's code and who are the bad guys fighting neck and neck to uncover the meaning alongsede Elinor and Kekoa. I love Elinor's kind demeanor and her owning her nerdiness with her fun puns and t-shirts. I also love Kekoa's Hawaiian heritage, his humor and kindness to Elinor, and how his family comes alongside him in his struggles with an issue from his past. I think this series would make a great movie plot! Walters does such a good job that I can easily picture each of these characters and feel like I am getting to know them all so well.

Then, too, I absolutely love Elinor's grandfather calling her Sparrow and the meaning behind it. His Eye is on the Sparrow is a favorite old hymn of mine. The spiritual aspect of this book flows quite well too and does not feel preachy at all.

At the end of Fatal Code, there is a brief preview of the next book in the series. I Can. Not. Wait!

I received a copy of this book from the author and the publisher. All opinions within this review are my own.

MY KEKOA! MY KEKOA! Oh I just love that Hawaiian man! 😍

I’m not the biggest beach gal - the open ocean actually scares me quite a bit. But this book just made me want to jump on a plane and go to Hawaii!

Y’all know how much I ADORED the first book, and prequel novella - and the obsession continues! This team, this OHANA! It holds a piece of my heart. Natalie created a beautifully diverse and unique team. Each one has strengths and weaknesses - and they have each other’s back’s through every fail or success!

I LOVED Kekoa! I was ANXIOUSLY awaiting his story and it did not disappoint! His character was funny in book 1, but we really got the see the depth that he had in this story. The things that made him tick, the things that made him who he was. I loved loved loved seeing his vulnerable side in addition to his fun loving, carefree side!

The scenes between Kekoa & his dad made me tear up! The emotion was so raw, I could feel it!

Elinor was just wonderful too! I loved seeing her really open up and flourish throughout the book. Coming to face her hurts and vulnerabilities. Elinor’s neediness made me smile, and her jokes made me giggle!

One thing I LOVE about Natalie’s girl characters is that they are BRILLIANT and strong! But they still know when they work better in a partnership than alone.

This book dealt with some pretty smart people stuff, and I have never claimed to be quick when it came to math & science. (Probably a good thing I didn’t become a veterinarian 😅)
But I never felt like I was totally lost, I was able to keep up with the plot lines and once the curtain was raised on the bad guys I was still able to separate everything.

I’ve really enjoyed the unique villains & suspense lines Natalie has taken with this series!
I’m SO SO SO looking forward to Lyla & Garcia’s story. It’s going to be AMAZING - I’m sure of it!

4.5/5 stars

I've been reading Christian romantic suspense for 25 years (heavy on the romance was just fine with me as a high schooler!), but somehow I'd never read Natalie Walters until I picked up Fatal Code. I couldn't put it down. The author has a great mix in her core crew of characters, which reminded me of Lynn H. Blackburn and Dee Henderson. After a chapter to get adjusted to the dynamics between the characters, since this is the second book in the series, I was completely enamored and ready for the story to pull me through. And it didn't stop pulling until the end. I'm already looking forward to the next one in the series to spend more time with those characters. Kekoa begins the story determined not to get involved in any romantic entanglements like his coworkers are experiencing (Lyla and Garcia begin the story with some very clear unrequired love that was a fun way to introduce those characters). But then you have the woman he is supposed to be watching and this whole issue of nuclear espionage and aerospace engineering (living in Houston and with family who worked at NASA, I loved this angle!).

I'll definitely be chasing down all of Natalie Walter's backlist and adding her to my list of favorite suspense authors. For anyone who wants a clean, suspenseful (but not triggering or gory) read with plenty of romantic angst and sweetness, Fatal Code is a good choice.

I knew I was excited for this book, but it still blew my socks off!!! It's a fantastic story, a compelling addition to the SNAP series, and I absolutely love Kekoa and Elinor. Their story was so sweet, the faith aspects so heartfelt and nicely interwoven, and they're just characters that you'll root for. Easily. I laughed, I cried, and then I finished the book all too soon. A definite must-have if you're a fan of Walters' works (or if you enjoy crime dramas and romantic suspense).

(Now to wait and see about Lyla and Garcia...)

So much fun learning more about Kekoa and his role at the SNAP Agency! The characters are great; the plot is fast-paced, suspenseful, and a bit emotional, and the writing is excellent. Throw in some codes and I'm hooked!

Fatal Code is a fabulous book for anyone who loves non-gorey, contemporary suspense novels. You won't want to miss out on Elinor's adventure!!!

Thank you to Revell and NetGalley for giving me a complimentary e-copy in exchange for my honest review!

Another great romantic suspense novel from Natalie Walters! This is book 2 in the SNAP Agency series. While the story itself could stand alone, I would recommend reading the prequel novella Initium and the first book Lights Out before reading this one in order to better understand what the Agency does and get some introduction into the characters. You'll be able to enjoy this story without that, but you'll enjoy it more with that history. This book follows computer genius Kekoa Young of SNAP and his neighbor Elinor Mitchell, who is a genius in her own right. She's working on a billion dollar project and is under suspicion for leaking company secrets. Kekoa is tasked with keeping an eye on her, but can he keep her safe and prove she's not a traitor without her finding out he's keeping tabs on her and without completely falling for her?

I enjoyed the character development in this book. Kekoa has been a side character in a couple of Ms. Walters' books and it was good to get to know him better. As for Elinor, the book opens at her grandfather's funeral, and the grief that she experiences was definitely relatable. I enjoyed her quirky nerdiness and punny t-shirts and stupid science jokes. In addition to the characters, I also enjoyed the story line a great deal. This one had me turning pages to see what happened next and I didn't figure out the main "bad guy" until it was exposed at the end. The romance element of a romantic suspense is usually my least favorite element, but this one had a nice slow burn throughout, which I thoroughly enjoyed. And I literally laughed out loud at some of the goofy jokes that they bantered with. The faith thread was light in the first 2/3 of this book, but picked up serious steam in the last third as Kekoa comes to terms with elements from his past that needed to be placed in the hands of the Father, and I enjoyed that this element built throughout as well, making it feel more natural. All in all, this was an excellent romantic suspense novel, and I'd strongly recommend to fans of that genre.

Special thanks to the author and publisher for an advance copy of this novel. I was under no obligation to provide a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.

"Fatal Code" is a Christian romantic suspense/mystery. This is the second book in a series, but it works as a stand alone and didn't spoil events from the previous novel.

The characters reacted realistically to events and came across as real people with genuine struggles. Kekoa wasn't able to protect his little brother and has never forgiven himself. When it's clear that Elinor's in danger, he's terrified that he won't be able to protect her, either, especially since he's a computer expert, not a warrior. As Kekoa and Elinor spent time together, they became friends and cared about each other. They shared interests and supported each other. The suspense came from lots of different people wanting the plans and program codes that Elinor possessed and their willingness to hurt and kill to get them.

Kekoa needed to release his feelings of guilt, accept forgiveness, and trust God was in control. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this exciting novel.

I was so excited about reading this sequel, but for some reason I just didn't connect with it as I hoped to. Elinor is such a great character and at the start of the book she is mourning her grandfather, what a special man of faith he was to her life when she needed it most. Loved that this is KEKOA's story and Elinor is such a great match for him :)

For some reason I got the wrong impression of Kekoa's looks from the first SNAP Agency book, he's not chubby but tall and muscular. In Elinor's thoughts of him, she describes his muscles and height more than once and views him as her protector with only a few encounters of him being her neighbor. He jokingly compares himself to Aqua Man, which I thought was amusing :) One detail I didn't agree with is one scene where he eyes Elinor from head to toe in evening wear at a party, "with appreciation." Comparing him to another man who looks at her lustfully at the same party. For the gentleman I know Kekoa to be in the story, I was disappointed by that.

My favorite scene is with Giuseppe, the Italian man who fits Kekoa and his team for tuxedos, despite the man being completely unable to pronounce his name properly. "Signor Koakoa" Brilliantly written!

SPOILER:
I had trouble following the different bad guys and main culprit...wait, there was no main culprit. Yeah, there was a handful of people who have different motives and choose Elinor as the fall person. The biggest problem I had with the bad guys is at the same party scene, Elinor goes to the bathroom and gets roughed up, in detail. Not much violence in the story at all, but that ONE scene bothered my sensitive nature. One bad guy describes how women in a different countries are tortured in detail...I have trouble understanding why Christian fiction could publish such information for dramatic effect. Even though it's on a page and not viewed in a movie or video game does not make it any less hideous in my opinion. It's a brief moment in the story, but still not appreciated.

Loved the SNAP team, as usual! I didn't think it was funny when Jack's fiance called in and used terms of endearment for him in front of everyone, but I get it was silly banter being used for them while investigating relevant information. Again, I just had trouble connecting to all of the dynamics here. Lyla is so special and love every scene she was in. Everyone should have a best friend like her.

All in all, despite previous mentions, I did enjoy Kekoa's story with Elinor. Just certain details in the plot I could have done without. Loved the ending and how every minor character is concluded, especially that security guard. The scene at the end in Hawaii, made me smile big time.

Natalie Walters once again provides a gripping, page-turning romantic suspense with her latest release Fatal Code.

I have been a fan of Natalie Walters since I read Living Lies. She will forever be an auto-read author for me, so of course, I jumped at the chance to read Fatal Code.

Walters doesn’t skimp on suspense, jumping right into it as soon as the novel begins. But she also includes these really sweet moments between Elinor and Kekoa that add to the romance. I loved the peeks into Kekoa’s heritage, especially since I’ve never been to Hawaii.

Walters also adds plenty of plot twists that kept me guessing! And she includes a great faith arc about trusting God.

While Fatal Code is a sequel, it can be read as a standalone. But if you haven’t read Lights Out yet, I highly recommend it.

Faith requires trust.

This story had suspense, danger, fun, sweet romance and depth with Kekoa struggling with an event from his past and learning to let go and give it to God.

Ever since I closed the cover on book 1, I was looking forward and excited for Kekoa's story and I was not disappointed. The fun, Hawaiian guy from book one was back, but there was also so much more to him - not only did we see his fun humour again, but we could also see his struggles and regrets. I loved the scene with him and his dad in Maryland, it was such a deep and crucial event for Kekoa.

It wasn't through his own strength that he could let go, it was by leaning into the strength of the One so much bigger than the the hurt and the pain.

Elinor was a great fit to Kekoa and found herself in a mystery without realising she is in it. I liked how the author gave the reader inside information so we could see things before the characters got to that conclusion.

The suspense element was milder than book one, but it grew in intensity as the story developed and there was a few scenes which made me gasp, hold my breath, and scared for the characters.

Now, to get to see what is the story between Lyla and Garcia!

I knew from reading book one that I was going to love a story focused on Kekoa, and I wasn’t wrong! I think he may be my favorite Natalie Water’s character, although Elinor and her science jokes is pretty awesome too! It was great seeing the whole SNAP gang together, solving cases and stopping bad guys. I could definitely see this as a plot to a crime fighting show!
