Dance till you dieA young lady comes out of her home in Strasbourg and starts to dance. At first, observers think she was simply putting up a show to entertain them. Soon enough, a dance troupe of more than 400 people forms around her, dancing uncontrollably for weeks, with as many as 50 of them dropping dead during those weeks.
Her killers came through the Medicine Cabinet in the BathroomAround 8:40 pm on April 22, 1987, she called 911 to report that someone was trying to break into her house through the medicine cabinet in the bathroom. The dispatcher thought she was crazy and took her report lightly. Only that she wasn’t. Her killers came from the walls.
The Black Barren CircleThere nothing in this circle located in a thick forest that prevents the growth of plant life. So why do dogs bark at unseen figures when they reach that spot? Why won't birds build their nest on any tree close to that circle? Is it because the Devil ascends from Hell and circles that spot every night?
A Disappearance at British ColumbiaOn the evening of November 28, 2012, a young man called the police about a nervous-looking, barefooted lady pacing around the front of the Empress Hotel in British Columbia. The Aircraft Jacking of the CenturyIn 1971, a man in a trench coat boarded a flight from Portland to Seattle. He successfully hijacked the plane and received his $200,000 ransom money and some parachutes. He jumped out of that plane, never to be identified or seen again.
The stories in the book are interesting but not really shocking. One is about a guy who received blows to his head and later acted paranoid and then disappeared. The paranoia could have been caused by the blows to the head. the disappearing part is hard to say what happened but it's most likely has a reasonable explanation.
There was a type of plague in 1618 in Strasbourg where people began to dance without music and continued to do so to the point of exhaustion. The book says some people died but I looked up online and whether anyone died or not has not been determined.
There's a story about a woman killed in her apartment, a place called The Devil's Tramping Ground and one about Dan Cooper, the guy who hijacked an airplane and then jumped out with the ransom. None of those stories are particularly fascinating, the Dan Cooper one being a fairly well-known story.
I thought the book would be more scary? interesting? supernatural? but it seemed to be fairly normal, albeit unpleasant things happening so it disappointed me.
A good effort, though there would have been more stars IF the editing had been better. Double typing of words in ones bio is never a good thing. Otherwise, the compilation was quite interesting and yes, made me wonder ‘How in the world did they just drop off the face of the earth’ and of course to pause and wonder what could have happened and perhaps where they could be. Makes one think ! The author achieved his goal - having made the reader wonder and wonder some more. Good job !
I thought this short collection was quite good. There was enough detail and depth to each story without it becoming too bogged down. Most I'd heard of at least in passing but a couple were new to me and very interesting. I thought the writing style was engaging.
Picked up on Kindle Unlimited and would read more by the author, though I do wish the book had been longer (delved into more cases).
I love these books but this one was incredibly short. I finished it in about five minutes, I would’ve really like to see more stories. Also, some of the grammar errors really bothered me. I feel like an editor would’ve fixed those issues before publication.
It was short but inexpensive so that makes up for the length of the book but it wasn’t near as interesting as it seemed it would be. I skimmed through it and nothing really stood out as all that great about it.
