Ryota is living a bleak torment of an existence as a salaryman when he’s suddenly whisked to another world as a trash drop from a monster killed by young adventurer Emily. Turns out this whole world runs on treasure dropped from monsters and, while Ryota’s stats are garbage, his abilities at getting rare items are off the charts. Is he going to turn out to be crazy overpowered? I mean, it’s right in the title...

Another winner from the ‘I think I’ll take a chance on this’ book pull. This is a little shaky, but overall it managed to win me over by virtue of its virtues. It does this by being pretty clever where it counts and using the tropes it’s based on to good effect, not to mention some surprising emotional moments.

I’ve never seen an isekai trade in the fact that most early Japanese games with a ranking system using S-rank (to denote special) as a spot higher than A was completely baffling to a lot of us Westerners (I distinctly remember a decided ‘huh?’ on my part during the PSOne era).

Because this new world partially uses English, when Emily sees that Ryota has an S in all drops she thinks he must be the absolute worst. It’s a slick way to explain why she’s so shocked when his luck starts turning. There’s also a LOT of Dragon Quest infused throughout if you want to spot some of those extra references (they also provide a sneaky way around our hero’s limitations).

And Ryota’s a genuinely easy to root for protagonist. He’s got a woefully bad mentality towards work, ie that it’s all he’s good for, and seeing him both use it and then not have to use it is really winning.

He and Emily have a wonderful father/daughter dynamic going on. The way she holds him as he cries over something as simple as a kind gesture from another human is such a special moment and I loved her speech about believing he was due something truly special for his labours.

Conversely, Emily is basically homeless and Ryota’s efforts to repay her kindness end up with them forming a really cozy family set-up. The way she later pulls him back from falling into his old habits is another win for her. They’re both so great for each other (make no mistake there is no hint of romance and if there ever is I will punch this book in the mouth because of the age gap).

What the book doesn’t really need is fan service, so of course it has some. The poor store clerk, Erza, who is quite keen on Ryota (I do love how forthright she is), seems largely portrayed as a giant chest with a human attached. I mean, the author admits in the notes that after the original design they even went back and adjusted her larger (sigh).

Then there’s Eve, who is a violent female in a Playboy bunny suit who loves high quality carrots. I mean, there’s fan service and then there’s this - I genuinely hope Eve turns out to be more than she appears because she couldn’t be much less right now.

The art is pretty okay - the food looks pretty good (isekai seem hellbent on well drawn cooking lately) and the action is easy to follow. I have to give extra credit for the action flowing nicely and the slimes are some of the cutest going. Emily pulls off the ‘small character with big hammer’ trope nicely too.

3 stars. I think there are two distinct books here, the very sweet story of a family coming together and also a bunch of butts and boobs. One is immensely more satisfying than the other, no points for guessing which at this point, but I’m going to give it a second volume to see where it’s headed.

Why did you read this book?
The first volume was on sale and the art work was good.

What format did you read this book in?
Read the comic on ComiXology app.

Is this an educational book or a book for entertainment?
I read this book for pure entertainment purposes.

What genres do you think this book belongs to?
Comics, Graphic Novels, Humor and Comedy, Manga, Paranormal, Psychology, Romance, Young Adult

What was your favorite part in the book? Spoiler
I think my favorite part is when he accidently kills his first monster by tripping backwards.

Who would you suggest this book to?
Anyone who likes the reincarnation cliché, fantasy, or harem style manga.

What is your general opinion/ rating of this book?
I didn’t like it because there is a character that I think is too young to be hanging around with a middle-aged man. Her age isn’t specified but it still give me too much of the “Lolita” vibe, for me to feel comfortable. None of the females have any personality. Although this manga follows the reincarnation cliché, the mechanism of the world are unique. Overall, not a bad shounen or seinen novel, but it wasn’t to my tastes.

Are there any cliché scenes or concepts?
The common reincarnation into a fantasy world, where the main character has a special ability. Love interests insta-love the main character for no reason.

What style of graphic novel is this?
It’s in the Japanese manga style (you need to read the book from right to left).

Is the comic colored or is it in black and white?
This comic is in B&W tone.

What is your opinion on the artwork?
The artwork was decent in a decent manga style. Some of the females were drawn with overly large breasts, which is common for manga’s targeting males.

How is the type setting? Is the comic easy to read?
The fonts were great, and it was easy to read.

Is this comic a part of a series?
Yes, but I am not going to read the rest of the series.

Any trigger warnings?
Mental Health: Romanticized Mental Illness, Trauma, Eating Disorders
Sexual Content: Hints of perversion, Breast focused scenes, Dubious Consent
Violence and Death: Violence, Blood

Story, characters has potential!

Ryota, our MC, was an overworked salary man isekai'd into an RPG world. People grind monster drops and sell them for money found in various dungeons. Monsters drop all kinds of item including food and water. Ryota find out his max level is 1 and has the lowest rank combat stats possible. However,he has max rank drop rate stats which guarantee him high quality rare drop items. The cast is lighthearted and help the MC heal his trauma of overworking himself in his past life.

I've seen glimpses of this manga before and am glad to see it overseas. I like the world building and how they chose to tackle an isekai. Particularly how drop rates have their own stat page with rankings. I like how the MC is just some poor overworked dude and is trying to change for the better thanks to the denizens of this world. Check it out!!

Not bad so far but not sure how it has even five volumes from the content in this first book. I don’t have a clue what the overarching story for this will be or if there’s some powerful enemy to defeat or quest. Basically it’s just an introduction—but I will say he’s leveling up super fast, even with an “amazing skill.” I’ll give book two a try.

From the intro I was hoping Emily would be able to give him more support and so far I’m a little disappointed her role seems to be strictly housewife this far. They could have made a good team— Emily working to get stronger taking down more baddies, letting our mc take half the kill shots to get better drops, etc. I still kind of have my fingers crossed for something like that to happen. *note: she does go back into the dungeons with him in vol. 2 later on~

Just okay. Doesn't really expand on the world as much and hops around a bit too much for my liking.

Pretty standard isekai

It's pretty straightforward isekai litrpg power fantasy. The main focus is dungeon farming and a soothing daughter-like heroine with some fan-service interruptions. The tension is pretty much there to justify feeling rewarded by stress relief. Feels kind of bland when you get passed the world building.
