Julie Mulhern is the USA Today bestselling author of The Country Club Murders and the Poppy Fields Adventures.

She is a Kansas City native who grew up on a steady diet of Agatha Christie. She spends her spare time whipping up gourmet meals for her family, working out at the gym and finding new ways to keep her house spotlessly clean--and she's got an active imagination. Truth is--she's an expert at calling for take-out, she grumbles about walking the dog and the dust bunnies under the bed have grown into dust lions.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

Usually, trouble finds Poppy Fields but this time she goes looking for trouble. To get the answers she needs she flies off to Egypt by herself. Mark aka Thor can’t go with her but he hooks her up with Ethan Alexander from the C.I.A. Poppy isn’t sure if she can trust him but when bullets start to she realizes she doesn’t have a choice.

This story is a little different because all the normal supporting characters, Mark, Mia, Chariss, Yurgi, and even Consuela are not around to assist Poppy through all her trials and tribulations. Okay, some do show up in the nick of time near the end of the book, but Poppy really had to hold her own before that with just a couple of surprising assists.

She was there on her own private personal mission but she runs into someone that her boss, Mr. Brown is very interested in. He puts her on the case of surveilling his target until he can send another agent to help. This adds a nice twist but also puts a huge target on her back. The action is truly non-stop with the perfect amount of Julie Mulhern’s signature humor.

I really enjoyed the way the author describes everywhere Poppy travels, from the hotels, the ship on the Nile, the desert, the temples, the tombs, the marketplace, and everywhere in between. Of course, Poppy wasn’t on your typical vacay but it was an incredibly fun virtual trip to the home of the Pharaohs.

Like every other book in this series, the book was just impossible to put down. I would have read the entire thing in one evening but my breast cancer therapy had my eyes slamming sooner than I would have liked.

I absolutely loved this Poppy Fields adventure. Julie Mulhern never disappoints. Like the 4 previous books, Fields’ Guide to Pharaohs receives my Paradise rating. To get know Poppy and all the other characters I recommend reading them all in order and enjoy all their adventures! You can thank me later 😀

Another thrilling adventure for Poppy Fields. Poppy is visiting Egypt to try and locate her ever illusive father. Of course, nothing goes smoothly.
Chariss, Yurgi, Mia and Thor only appear through frantic text messages for most of the book. For some reason Thor is personna non grata in Egypt, so has sent the arrogant and dashing Ethan to act as Poppy’s protector in his absence.
As usual, Poppy gets shot at (a lot!), men believing they are God’s gift to women try to control her
It wasn’t as if I could ignore Jake. He had the subtlety of a supernova. “Why don’t you trust Ethan?” “He’s cocky.” Pot. “He’s a show-off.” Kettle. “He’s a player.” Black.
and all the baddies immediately assume that Poppy is there to interfere with their nefarious goings on (actually she is eventually, but that was not her initial plan).
Consuela makes a belated, but dramatic appearance, and shows that it is NEVER a good idea to underestimate a cute, tiny dog with overprotection issues and very sharp teeth:
Yip! Take that! She floated like a taffy-hued butterfly. She stung like an angry bee.

I have never been to Egypt, and it was fascinating to see it through Poppy’s eyes. Though I assume that her take on Egypt is not representative of your regular (or even irregular) tourist.
The book ends with all jetting off to the Grand Caymans for Chariss and Yurgi’s nuptuals (not really a spoiler) – so that is probably where Poppy will unleash chaos next. I can hardly wait.

Poor Poppy can’t even take a tour without getting shot at! This is the first location she’s been to that I haven’t and I loved the descriptions of Egypt; this makes me want to move the location up on my list of destinations. I missed Consuela, the dog, in the beginning but she makes an appearance about halfway through. So do all the other usual secondary characters that add so much humor to the stories. I loved this story but will admit that Ethan was the most annoying character I’ve encountered in the series so far but even he grew on me eventually. So excited for the next!

Poppy 's hunt for her dead father has landed her in Egypt to find Jackson Meadows. Mark Stone, aka Thor, has asked Ethan Alexander to play her boyfriend while in Egypt. Poppy doesn't trust Ethan and his response to her high school nemesis' arrival doesn't help.

Ride the Nile, visit a souk and enjoy the special things that make Egypt a site to explore. Dodging bullets and kidnapping attempts keeps Poppy busy and the novel fast paced with excitement.

Next trip we head to Grand Cayman for Poppy's next adventure.

This is the fifth book in the Poppy Fields Adventure series and it still continues to be a hoot to read. If you enjoy Stephanie Plum, I think you’ll enjoy this series. This time Poppy went to Egypt to find her father. But she no sooner sets foot there and she becomes a target. She has to trust new people, use her wits to avoid being killed and answer to Mr. Brown. I don’t want to give anything away, but she finds her Dad for a brief time before Thor(Mark) comes to take her to safety and her next possible adventure. Maybe her father will show up again? Julie Mulhern does a great job of describing Egypt, Poppy’s couture, and her driving again (ha ha!). I hated to put it down and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I laughed at times, and was worried for Poppy and her new friend, Ethan at other times. Looking forward to more adventures, or is it misadventures? Can’t wait.

So good!

I had to stay up and finish the latest Poppy Fields book last night! Excellent plot twists, new background info on some of the characters, and of course, lots of flirting and lifestyles of the rich and famous ;) I just need these to be a little longer because I read them too quickly needing to know what happens next!

I started this book and read straight through the first 10 chapters! I had to make myself put it down because it was 4am and I knew if I didn't stop reading I wouldn't function the next day. I love this series. I highly recommend starting at the first book and once you read that I think you'll be as hooked as I am.

Best one yet!

Poppy is on a mission, solo this time, to get answers from her dad and in of all places, Egypt! The author does a fantastic job of researching the locations and the detail and depth of the story is real. I feel like I’m right there with Poppy, it’s that good. I loved every word but we need more Thor next time!

Sinister Sand Dunes

I had been looking forward to this newest Poppy Fields adventure. Poppy thinks her dad is somewhere in Egypt and she is determined to find him. I was enjoying the descriptions of the hotel
and the market place and I was stopping to look up these sites to read about them but soon I was so caught up in the story that I couldn’t pull away to look at the background research.
Poppy was deeply enmeshed in a plot that had more twists and turns than the Kahn El Khalili Market Place in Cairo and more bullets than the Nile has crocodiles.
Thanks Julie Mulhern for another great read!

As a long-time fan of Julie Mulhern's, I have come to know one sure thing about all of her books: I'm in for a heck of a ride!

In her fifth adventure, Hollywood "It" Girl and spy-in-training Poppy Fields is on her own in an ancient land. Hot on the heels of her father, Poppy left foggy Longer for sunny, sandy Egypt sans her partners and her dog. Thor (AKA Mark, Poppy's partner) arranged for a dubious connection with an undercover CIA agent, but he isn't exactly what Poppy expects.

Fields Guide to Pharaohs is non-stop fun, filled with action, intrigue, and more than one mystery. A wild run through the Valley of the Kings where the only thing to expect is the unexpected!

4/5 Stars
I completely enjoyed this new Poppy Fields book- like the earlier installments the writing in Fields' Guide to Pharaohs is sharp and full of humor, the plot lines are exciting, and the characters are great. I have a special love for Consuela- the scenes with her in them are some of my favorite. I wish the book would have been longer, some of the end scenes could have had a more substance to flesh things out more, but overall I was very pleased.

Julie Mulhern has done it again! Whether it's Poppy in 2020 or Ellison the 1970s. Her heroines are human. They have flaws and an innervoice that cracks me up.
In Field's Guide to Pharaohs, Poppy is on a personal mission which becomes one the "agency" is interested in as well. Life is never dull for Poppy. She starts off alone this trip. But being the daughter of a movie star she gathers attention. Her adventure includes but NOT limited to the CIA, a conniving frenemy, her best friend and her dog. You don't want to miss this newest chapter in Poppy's story.

The only trouble with

Julie Mulhern’s books are I can’t put them down once I start. Both the Poppy series and the Country Club Murder series have cost me sleep and several Saturdays. I have to finish them in one day. Well written, great characters, tons of action. You won’t be disappointed.

A good one, this time Poppy is in Egypt in a mission to find her father and along the way of course she finds, mystery, murder, car chases, gun fire, and much more. Poppy still hasn’t been trained, still isn’t being paid, but somehow is depended upon to solve all these mysteries- girlllllll 👀👀👀👀👀👀

I really missed Mark and Chariss and just the general cast of the previous books in this installment. I did NOT miss Consuela, who once reintroduced made me groan (the "replies" she gives Poppy are just wearing thin at this point, used sparingly it might be fine but it's not.)

Anyhow, looking forward to being back with our usual characters in the next book.

Loved this book and the series, as usual Poppy's adventures do not fail to entertain as she goes from one scrape to the next but in true Poppy fashion brings us along to the unexpected ending. Love the adventure and suspense. Highly recommend book and series.

Awesome!!

Julie Mulhhern's books have an extraordinary talent for bringing you with her heroine, Poppy's every move. Fields' Guide to Pharaohs is no exception. It's fast action and Agatha Christi like mystery will have you racing to see what happens next.

Poppy in Egypt!

How does Poppy do it? She goes to Egypt to find her father and finds even more adventures and danger everywhere she turns. Mulhern makes Egypt come alive while Nile river cruises, shopping in the souk, and temples galore. I always feel a part of the city as Poppy travels the globe on her adventures.
Can’t wait until September!

I think what I like most about this series (besides being fun, a bit exciting, and having great characters) is the fact that the end of each book sets you up for the next book. And then you wonder who’s going to try and kill Poppy in the next place she travels to.

What’s not to love about tombs, treasures, mummies … and a killer Chihuahua? Some of the best dialog is the “conversation” between Poppy and Consuela … I truly laugh out loud!!

Fields' Guide to Pharaohs is timeless fast-action adventure at its best! Take away Poppy's smart phone and her breathless search for her father across Egypt, author Julie Mulhern's 5th Poppy Fields novel could have taken place at any point in time since the international search for Egyptian antiquities has inspired greed and murder.
Poppy's search for her father among the tombs of Egypt kicks her danger magnet into high gear. The many talents she learned from her father before his supposed death come into play as an unidentified menace leaves bodies in her wake. The one man she trusts to help her can't enter the country and she does not trust those assigned to assist her.
While I recommend readers follow the series from the beginning, if you only read one novel in the Poppy Fields Adventures series, Fields' Guide to Pharaohs is the book to read.
