It seems like all a girl needs these days is a little mascara and concealer blended over her acne scars to make her mark on the world – especially if she wants to become a famous makeup artist. I’m only a junior in high school, but I’ve got major goals. That includes sneaking onto the movie set filming at my school and snapping up a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work for the hottest makeup artist in Hollywood.
Bonus points if I run into Zane again—the insanely cute soccer player who kissed me in the rain the other day and then ran off.
So mysterious.
But sometimes a girl can bite off more than she can chew. Turns out, Zane isn’t just any boy. He’s...so much more.
Throw in an overbearing dad, a nasty mean girl, and the fact that falling for Zane could cost us both our dreams, it would be so much easier to walk away from each other.
But Zane is about as addictive as my favorite eyeshadow pallet.
And walking away has never been my style.
Looks like this girl could use a love life makeover.
I’ve come to learn with a lot of insecurities that females have within themselves are hard to get rid of... unless you push yourself through and learn to love yourself or meet someone who shows you can love yourself without makeup! Zane prove that to Lexi.. by showing her that he liked her without all of the makeup that she put on to hide her true beauty.
But Janelle tried to ruin that for her and even Zane by sending their picture that Zane took of at the library to the blogs. Not only that printing out Lexi picture without her makeup on. But you look at it Janelle was just jealous of Lexi, because she knew that Zane liked Lexi. Whereas there wasn’t anything there between them. She was sucking face with Freddy behind the bushes. But she tried to be-little Lexi for no particular reason.
I was glad that in the end that she showed Janelle that she didn’t hurt her. Plus showed Zane dad too because in the end they ended up getting to be together because the PR and others liked what was going on with the video that Lexi made...
Besides that I cannot wait to read Beth’s story that is the one that I was most curious about for-sure!
ENG ::
Since I discovered the first book, I became a fan of the series. I love that the sisters are continuing it now.
I must confess tho, that this book has been my least favorite, but it still has great elements.
Lexi is a character full of contradictions. She’s straight forward and goes after what she likes but she’s also very insecure about her face.
Zane is a Hollywood star and has all the “heartbreaker” vibe going on, but he’s sweet and a really nice guy. They have a great connection and together, they learn a lot of lessons.
However, the bittersweet part is that the next book will be the last! Beth’s story will be finally here, closing this cool series.
So far, I’m loving the cover, the title and the Sneak peek!
This is a nice, sweet romance that touches on some important teenage issues and teaches some good advice. I always like a story that encompasses positive lessons like to try your best no matter what you do, so you'll have no regrets. However, I did feel like the romance was kind of too quick with this one (especially with the kiss) and I felt like there should have been a bit more lead up to their developing feelings instead of that instant attraction. I do prefer a slow burn at opposed to insta-romance though, which is probably why I enjoyed the first the books a lot more.
Also, I am super excited to be reading Beth's story next! The epilogue and preview was great. :D
What I appreciate in Lacy Andersen's YA stories is that the characters cast in quite stereotypical roles (the flirt, the jock / movie star, the artistic diva...) still feel "real": They are not perfect, they're struggling with real-life problems and getting to see their vulnerabilities makes them relatable.
I especially like Lexi as a heroine: on a personal level, how she's dealing with her insecurities and the HS drama, but also how she already has such a clear idea of the career path she wants to take - and the steps she needs to take to get there.
Zane fits right in with the other good-guy heroes in this series, and I would have liked to see at least part of this story from his POV.
I loved this book. I love her "mask" of makeup hiding her real face. I love her tenacity. Lexi is a fighter it shows at the end. She reminds me a lot of me, not her face but her push forward do it big or go home attitude. I also loved Zane's character. He's a movie star without the attitude of a movie star. He's just a normal kid thrown into opportunities opened up to him. Alanis, even with her attitude came out from her past and fight forward in her life. I just enjoyed this book and will read it again.
I keep telling myself to stop reading YA’s, but books like this keep me reading them! Teen angst, along with the younger age level can be a bit much. But I LOVED this story! Lexi knows she wants to be a makeup artist one day. She proves it time and again in the book. I loved Zane and watching him finally man-up, too. One book left in the series? Definitely will be reading it before I sign of YA (but will I really, though?).
Mean girls, bullying, self esteem issues and a Hollywood movie being shot in your high school. Lacy Andersen creates characters you can relate to or whom you probably went to HS with. Great story!
Loved this book. I think the message that women are beautiful with or without makeup is an important lesson to learn as a teenager. No one should hide behind layers of makeup. Be real and true to yourself.
He’d said that tomorrow, everything would change, but he didn’t know just how stubborn a girl I could be. Where there was a will, there was a way. I was going to make my way onto that makeup crew. Knowing that Zane would be there, too, was only icing on the cake. Yummy blue-eyed, muscular, gives-me-shivers kind of icing. It was like the universe was daring me to try. I couldn’t let the universe down.
Zane and Lexi are adorable. But their relationship is messy. Zane couldn’t date because he had to have this “bachelor style.” But his feelings for Lexi were too strong. Lexi didn’t want to put Zane in a tough spot, having him choose his career or her. She also didn’t want to lose her job as the makeup assistant on the movie. But just like Zane, her feelings for Zane were too strong. Lacy Anderson added some important teenage issues and gave good advice. I did feel like the romance was kind of too quick. I wanted to see more of a lead up to their developing feelings instead of the instant attraction. But over all, it was a fun and cute read. I can’t wait to read Beth’s story. Especially after reading the Epilogue. Things are about to get messy for Beth. 4 stars.
