I read America’s Test Kitchen Instant Pot Ace Blender Cookbook because I wanted to see if I should purchase the Ace blender. I respect ATK and know that they give pros and cons about products and kitchen appliances. After reading this book of 75 recipes with tips for best use, I have decided not to purchase the Ace.
The current model does not allow you to submerge the blender cup in water for cleaning and it is tricky to clean. They explained that future models plan to have the ability to remove the blades for easier cleaning. Although tips for cleaning are given on page 3, it is the type of thing where someone in the family will make a mistake and break and ruin the appliance.
There are automatic buttons for easy use for specific purposes such as smoothie, purée, crush ice, frozen desserts, soy milk, rice milk, nut and oat milks, and soup. Although ATK recommends that better food can be produced when avoiding these buttons and doing things in a different manual manner as explained in the cookbook! And as my husband commented, “We already know how to cook on the stovetop and own a Cuisinart food processor, a stick blender and an Instant Pot, why would we need the Ace Blender?”
There are good tips and hacks on pages 6-9. The rest of the book is comprised of 75 recipes, soup, main dishes, side dishes, dips and spreads and sauces, drinks and smoothies, dessert and frozen treats. Some of these are very basic things such as a fruit smoothie, piña colada, margarita, and the nut milks.
ATK put the effort into testing and making recommendations but it is the slimmest ATK cookbook I have seen. While I appreciate the tips and opinions this was a let down, rating 3 stars = It’s Okay.
this blender is annoying to clean. the recipes are not very easy. i have a problem eating vegetables, and for that reason alone, it was worth the purchase. unless you have a problem child, or are an adult problem child, don't waste time on this.
however.. on the positive side... it IS the only way that i will eat my vegetables. and i'm 72 years old, so that's saying something.
