From the New York Times bestselling author of the Marked Men series comes a captivating novella about a rugged rodeo star who will do anything to protect the people he loves.

When rodeo star Crew Lawton loses everything in a bad bet, he has no choice but to take a new job to pay off his debts – even if it means becoming the face of an expensive male skincare line. Crew is used to getting sweaty and rustling in the dirt, not posing for photo shoots. And he’s certainly not used to being bossed around by a woman who doesn’t even know the difference between bulls and broncs. But Crew owes money to dangerous criminals, and he’ll do anything Della says in order to pay them back and keep them far away from his family in Loveless, Texas…

The launch of her new men’s line for her family’s company means everything to Della Deveaux, and she’s not willing to let some rugged, arrogant cowboy ruin her campaign. Crew Lawton is the last man she would have chosen to represent her chic, sophisticated brand. Unfortunately, her father already invested millions in Crew’s stupidly handsome face. Yet the more time they spend together, Della and Crew realize that opposites do attract. But when the time comes for Crew to face his past mistakes, will he be able to protect his family…and the woman he’s come to love?

Unbroken is the start of Jay Crownover's newest series, Loveless Texas. Jay Crownover can write books about tattoo artists, she can write romantic suspense, and she can also write about cowboys. It's not very often I read cowboy romances, but I thought I'd give this one a try. It hooked me and I can't wait to get more from this family.

Crew Lawton is in a bit of a pickle. He's a rodeo star, but he's got himself into debt from his gambling and has to find a way to pay it back. This means helping Della Deveaux with her upscale men skincare line as the face of the company. Crew has never been this type of a model before, but he has the good looks and hopes he can pull it off. He's got a lot riding on this. Della does, too. Della helps her father run her family's company but never quite feels like she measures up. This campaign is just what she needs to prove herself.

Della and Crew butt heads at first. They couldn't be more different if they tried. Crew is a wild cowboy and Della is a classy New-Yorker. This unlikely pair has so much chemistry, they can't seem to stay away from one another. And when they are together, it's explosive.
He was all wrong for me. He didn’t fit into my life. He was too pretty and too charming for his own good. But none of that mattered when his mouth settled over mine.

This book was short, steamy, and suspensful. It kept my attention from start to finish and I read it in one sitting (it took me just over an hour). After reading Unbroken, I'm definitely excited to read more about the Lawton siblings. Crew's brother, Case (the town sheriff) book is next!!

You can be my bad habit, Crew. You can be the entirety of my rebellious phase.”

Confession: it's been a hot minute since I read a Jay Crownover book. I know, I know! I'm ashamed of myself and I don't even know why it's been so long. And it has been. TOO LONG. And this was the perfect novella to throw me right back into my Jay lovefest. Consider me hooked. Line and sinker. I'm frothing at the mouth for more of her Loveless series. FROTHING AT THE MOUTH I TELLS YA.

This was a short yet satisfying story to introduce readers to the Lawton siblings. Starting with the bad boy rodeo star, Crew. Crew has been drowning in his own mistakes for a long while under the water starts rising over his head and he realizes just how much trouble he's in. When a deal that he would never jump on under any normal circumstances lands in his lap, he knows it's his only way out.

Della Deveaux is Crew's exact opposite. The good girl to the bad boy. The woman that's never so much as stepped out of line and has worked her butt off to prove herself to her father and show him that she has the chops to run their company. The attraction between Della and Crew is inconvenient but undeniable and it's not long before the sparks ignite into flames.

Now look, I hate to be one of those readers that knowingly picks up a novella and then complains that it was too short to be satisfying. But...I am. Because here's the thing. I couldn't help but feel that this story should have been a full length novel. There was so much that happens off page (Crew's fall from grace specifically) as well as some other things that I would have loved to sink my teeth into. There are some stories out there that you know are better suited as a short novella. Yet this didn't feel like one of them. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed it, and it was most definitely satisfying. But I also would have loved more. So much more!

I will definitely tell you that it did a heck of a job introducing and launching this new series. Because this reader is instantly hooked! If you're looking for a quickie novella that has a little of everything, opposites attract, and some sexy cowboys, definitely give this one a go!

It has been a hot minute since I binged on a Jay Crownover series. When I discovered the Marked Men series a few years ago, I went on a tear, reading one right after another to catch up and then wait impatiently for the next one. There was something different and special about those books. People who were not normally seen as heroes through the eyes of others...and Crownover made them bigger than life yet relatable. She touched on so many social issues woven carefully with strong love stories which made sense. I highly recommend the series if you haven't experienced it.

Now if I was such a fan, why haven't I been devoted to every book since, well, time has a way of disappearing and making things you wish you could do be put on the back burner. Ms. Crownover, though, has had many series since and devoted fans have made sure she knows how valued she is. This time, with the start of a new series, I was able to jump on board from the start.

When all you have ever heard is you're the bad guy who messes up, would you ever be able to believe you could be a good guy...That is something Crew Lawton eventually has to come to terms with...And when his path crosses Della Deveaux, all he can think about is doing very bad naughty things with her...

Crew is in trouble.
He has always been the black sheep of his family and now he is hip-deep in something that could threaten his brother and sister. He has the perfect righteous brother who is the town's Sherriff. The brother who has worked to right all the wrongs their father did. Crew's sister Kody is tough and actually is always there to bail him out whenever he gets into a fix. But this time, he will not allow anything to touch her or the dive bar she runs.

Crew is a famous rodeo star. Left home as soon as he could, taking the opportunity to hone his skills in the rodeo ring. Over the years the rush and thrill of being on a bronco, controlling it, and winning died down, and another rush was needed. Women were fun but gambling gave the thrill and risk he jonesed for...and now he has hit the point of almost no return...Lost anything of value and the Bookie has him so tied up and owing, the threat of approaching his sister's bar has Crew doing things he never would do...

Della Deveaux is furious. She has done everything she could to earn the respect of her father. For years all she has ever wanted was him to see she was the logical choice to take over the family company when the time was right. But no matter how successful her leadership has been in bringing the company into modern times with many advancements, she never feels as if her father sees what she has done. Now her pet project of a men's skincare line is ready to launch. She has nursed this through every step of the way and had all of the marketing explained, sophisticated, tux, billionaire type.

But no... Her father has plunked down a million dollars for some cowboy...granted a rodeo star of some sort, but this is not going to work. Delia is now standing in her pumps and suit in dust and dirt and watching this man ride a horse in the ring. She sees all the fans watch, hold their breath, and pray for him to win.

When she goes to Crew's trailer, he is in no mood to deal with anyone, not even the buckle bunnies he is used to...so when he turns to tell this one opening his RV's door, he sees something he wasn't expecting. Delia is a bit taken aback by Crew up close and personal. It was one thing to see the rugged cowboy on the back of a horse but to see him with a chest full and chiseled, eyes questioning with an arrogant gleam directed at her...That is something else entirely, Oh My.

Delia recovers and puts her business hat squarely on and explains no, she is not a groupie and is here for their business agreement her father signed with him. This takes Crew by surprise and upon hearing all the terms of the deal and what it will payout, he agrees to do everything Delia thought she would have to fight for...

This story takes these two on a course of discovering each other and themselves. Where Crew thinks who he is, bad, up to no good, and can never be enough for a good person like Delia...He sees her as above and unattainable but Delia sees the goodness and man Crew actually is. Her stepping back and just seeing what was in front of her was the turning point...Crew didn't need changing to fit her company's needs or hers ...He just needed to who he always was, a caring and sweet man who was a little lost.

Crew saw Delia from the start, wanted her, and appreciated all her strength and belief in him. Together they burn up the pages and when we get their happy ending we rejoice.

This was the intro to Crownover's new Western series and she laid all the necessary groundwork to keep us wanting the next entry. That stoic, righteous older brother is next and I am aiming to get right on that, finding out what happens to him.

Unbroken by Jay Crownover is a prequel novella in the contemporary romance Loveless, Texas series. The first book of the series will actually be a full length novel that will change the main characters so as with most romance you can read them in any order or simply by themselves as each are standalone stories.

In Unbroken rodeo star Crew Lawton finds himself deep in debt to the wrong people and needs to do whatever he can to pay off his debts. The last thing this cowboy thought he’d find himself doing is becoming a model but soon he’s posing for Della Deveaux and her male skincare line. The two couldn’t be any more different but as they say, opposites attract.

Being novella length this is a fairly quick read that some may think moves a bit too quickly but I actually enjoyed the story and characters. Of course one can always argue it would be better with more depth but in this case I got to know everything well enough it was a actually a fun read that one can easily do in one sitting.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

3.5 rodeo stars!

This was my first Jay Crownover book and despite a few issue I had with it I enjoyed her writing style. My main issue is that it was a novella and really could have been made into a full length novel. There was still so much to explore between Crew & Della. I really wanted to feel the connection between these two but the length of the book left me wanting.

I'm a sucker for a handsome rodeo cowboy and Crew didn't disappoint. He's gotten himself into quite a bit of trouble follow the next adventure and the high that goes along with it.

I wanted to like Della more than I did. It's probably just my own issues, I just had a hard time connecting with her. I did like that she was out to prove her worth in her father's company.

A nice introduction into Loveless, Texas series. I read this short novella because I had been wanting to read the next book in the series and I always have to read in order. lol!

Some times opposites do attract and when they do, even in the imagings of an author, it makes for great reading. Cowboy bad boy, who has pushed his luck way to far and a woman who runs her NYC/Paris corporate cosmetic family empire. Great romance with almost a novella length making for enjoyable, quick and easy reading.

If ever a title matched the story, this was it!

I just finished this novella and I want to read and savour it all over again. This story had me at cowboy and Crew lived up to my high expectations! He was used to being the black sheep in the family, even if he didn’t like it. Caught in a trap of his own making, he was his own worst critic but knew he had to sort out the mess himself. Even if Della was a curveball he never saw coming… Della was fighting her own demons and was determined, like Crew, to soldier through them. And win… Even if Crew was a curveball she never saw coming…

OMG, did I love this sexy, emotion-filled read! I’m usually not a big fan of the city girl/country boy trope but this was different somehow. Yes, they were definitely haute couture/ cowboy hat different but those differences were nothing and everything as they worked together to solve their very different problems. Della was beautiful inside and out. Warm, prickly but loyal to the core. When Crew knocked her over with his sex appeal and down home cranky charm, she was all in. And so was he…

I wanted this story to be much, much longer but am thrilled that there are more Lawtons to come. I can’t wait for more of these bold, irresistible characters! ~Diane, 5 stars

This novella was a good series starter, it set the context and the family well for the series that is up and coming. UNBROKEN brought a cowboy, Crew out of his failing broncho-riding world and into New York for a makeover related to sponsorship deals. Della was the product lead and therefore responsible for his transformation. I liked their opposites dynamic.

As can be the case with novellas, the characters were sketched more briefly and their relationship developed quickly. They definitely had chemistry and the heat was written really well. Instalove was circumvented, I’m glad to say but I would have preferred a full novel for this couples story to really do it justice.

I voluntarily read an early copy of this book.

So Idk if you know that a pre-order of Rebecca Yarros’ book got you a free copy of Girl in Luv co written by Jay. For me this was such a massive win I was thrilled. Until I got to the end and realised there was a second half Boy in Luv, which I could only get with a pre-order of Justified by Jay. Too easy! I jumped on Amazon and pre-ordered that sucker immediately then realised I have to wait for freaking ever for both books. Obviously this led to some stalking and obsessing and then BOOM there was Unbroken in netgalley. And omg they approved me.

So I jumped right on into this novella and devoured it in one sitting and now I am even more obsessed and impatient to get my grabby hands on Justified. Because damn does that blurb and teaser make me convinced this is going to be my kinda story.

But for now I guess I should focus on Unbroken and our introduction to Loveless and the Lawton family. Crew was the perfect kick-off. A damaged rodeo cowboy whose looks are a rival for David Gandy and Scott Eastwood. Ummm yeah I will buy whatever he's selling.

Crew is one of those characters that I didn't really like for a while but once he manned up I loved. Della was awesome. She was a little insecure but only in a way that made her feel real. And once she decided to go for something she didn't get in her own way.

I really enjoyed this novella but it felt like a tease to Case and hopefully Kody's books. And going in already knowing what an amazing writer Jay is I can't wait to see how it all unfolds in Loveless.

Unbroken was a great start to the Loveless, Texas series with a wonderful opposites attract romance.

Rodeo star Crew Lawton is used to taking risks due to his job and those risks have become an addiction. When Crew can’t pay his debts, he’s forced to take a new job to get a quick payout which means this rough and tumble cowboy is now the face of a new expensive male skincare line. Keeping Crew in line is Della Deveaux, the woman behind the skincare line. Della isn’t going to let a cowboy ruin everything she’s worked for, so she’s determined to whip Crew into shape. But as Crew and Della work together, they realize opposites really do attract and find themselves falling for someone they never imagined.

Della has spent her entire life trying to make her father proud of her. She’s incredibly dedicated to her work and is fantastic at what she does but she still believes something is lacking in her due to her father’s distance. Crew has always been the screw up of his siblings, the one more likely to cause problems than solve them. Crew has enjoyed the lifestyle being a rodeo star afforded him, but he never figured out how to stop himself from giving in to all of the temptations surrounding him.

Della and Crew don’t immediately get along, he believes she’s uptight and she believes he’s going to ruin all of her hard work. I liked that once the two had the opportunity to talk to one another, they came to realize their initial assumptions were wrong. The pair end up working really well together and I liked the banter between them while they worked. Their attraction for each other was there from the start, even when they initially disliked each other. When their relationship does progress, it’s incredibly sexy with some fantastic scenes.

The one thing I wasn’t a big fan of in the book was the storyline centered around Crew’s gambling. We’re told over and over again that Crew is incredibly impulsive, unreliable, and gives in to temptation easily. But personally I thought the Crew we got to know wasn’t like that at all. I think I just had a hard time buying into that narrative because Crew’s problems started off page and we didn’t actually see any of it. Plus it seemed like everything was amped up near the end just to create a big conflict to bring the characters together, but there was no need for it.

Overall I enjoyed Unbroken and I will definitely be continuing on with the series. I’m looking forward to reading the first full-length book in the series, Justified, soon.

4 STARS!

Unbroken by Jay Crownover, starts this brand new series off with a BANG! From the start, we're immediately brought the action as we sit on the edge of our seats, biting our nails in anticipation!

Crew Lawton I would say is the bad boy of the Lawton siblings. A famous rodeo star whose got himself into some deep trouble. He's got charm and swagger but his downfall is his gambling addiction which has caused him to owe a lot of money to someone he should not.

This brings us to Della Deveaux, her father wants Crew's face for her new product line. Della doesn't care much for a southern boy, she's a city girl through and through but even she could not resist Crew's sexiness. Crew hates the very idea of having to work with Della but he can't let this opportunity pass him by. He's looking at hefty amount of money that would finally make his debt paid in full.

Though things between Crew and Della are not a piece of cake at the beginning, their chemistry is undeniable. They are two opposites who attract. Two people who are very judgmental of one another... That is until they begin sending time together. Once those sparks fly, you best get out of the way!

Unbroken was so much fun to read and a wonderful start to an all-new series by Jay. I'm a sucker when it comes to reading novellas because I always end up wanting more. This proved to be the case once more as I'm now looking forward to Case's book next!

Jay Crownover launches her Loveless, Texas series with Unbroken, a sexy and appealing novella about a rough and rugged cowboy who needs to pay off his debts and protect his family at all cost.

Rodeo Star Crew Lawton owes a lot of money to a dangerous criminal and he’ll do just about anything to pay them back and keep his family safe. That means he’ll have to trade in his cowboy hat and boots for expensive designer wear while posing for photo shoots while being bossed around by the beautiful Della Deveaux.

Della has spent a lifetime trying to prove to her father that she’s capable of taking the reins of his beauty empire and the new product campaign is the key. Crew may be drop dead gorgeous but is totally wrong for her sophisticated brand, yet the contract has been signed and her father insists. However, as Crew and Della get to know each other they realize they have more in common than their sizzling attraction. But can their fledgling relationship survive Crew’s past mistakes?

Even though Crew and Della are completely different, they’re also amazing character types proving that opposites do attract. Their strong personalities nourish their careers as a rodeo star and business woman respectively and make them captivating couple who perfectly balanced each other. He’s a confident and charismatic rule breaker, she was focused, always wanting to be better than everyone else.
“You can be my bad habit, Crew. You can be the entirety of my rebellious phase.”

This was a very satisfying, fast-paced and sexy introduction to the series. The novella length did not hinder its hooking and suspenseful plot development and the changing backdrops from rodeo to big city provided an attractive additional layer. I can’t wait to read more of this series.

Unbroken is novella #0.5 of the Loveless, Texas series by Jay Crownover. It’s a short, standalone, cowboy romance, told from both points of view with a happy ending.

*crawls out from under rock*
*clears throat*

This is my first Jay Crownover book and I thoroughly enjoyed Unbroken, a novella in this author's new Loveless, Texas series.
We learn about rodeo star Crew's downfall and his gambling and betting habit that gets him into trouble with his bookie and how he is bound by contract to become the face of an upscale male skincare line. This is also the story about Della Deveaux, the CEO's daughter, who has been craving her dad's attention since the passing of her mom. Rough, rugged and ridiculously handsome Crew doesn't quite fit the theme Della had in mind for a luxury product but since her dad hired him, she grudgingly works with him.
My older brother wanted to save the world; I was the one who set it on fire.

Crew really fights his addiction but he is painfully aware that he is far from out of the woods. He doesn't have the best opinion about himself which plays into his demons hands but I respected him for trying to overcome his compulsion.
"I want to do the right thing so badly I can taste it, but I know there’s a really good chance I’m going to do the wrong thing anyway.”

"Ms. Priss" Della helps him along the way, spending time together makes them both realize that preconceived notions sometimes stand in your way of getting to know a person and finding that, while they are the exact opposite of you, they are exactly what you need. Sure, they were butting heads for a while but Della learned that Crew wasn't the untrustworthy, flakey, impulsive guy she thought him to be. Likewise, after a while Crew didn't see the judgmental, prissy business woman any longer either.
She was, without a doubt, the most fragile and delicate thing I’d ever put my hands on, and I was terrified I was going to break her.

Look, I know that this is a novella and for the most part this really worked for me, however, some of the chapters felt a little disjointed, as if something between was missing. The material for a full length novel definitely was there with Crew's addiction and Della's daddy issues, so I would have liked for Unbroken to have a little more meat to it.
Still, I enjoyed this bitsized story with a little suspense and steam and can't wait to start Justified!

I wasn't too sure about starting this series but I really ended up liking this book. The heroine was a bit off putting in the beginning but I really liked her by the end. Kind of interesting to have the black sheep of the family be the first book but it's kind of nice to see him settled when the other books in the series come around.

Definitely got the hot cowboy vibe off of this story and it was quite enjoyable. The cover was perfect and fit the story to a T!

Looking forward to Case and Aspen's story.

I already read book 1 of this new series and loved Cases’ story so I had to go back and learn how the sexy, rough bronc-riding Crew linked up with sophisticated, elegant Della. His character was honest and self-reflective. It was a quick romance built on opposites attract. Case and Della both had obstacles to overcome, his were far more substantial and dangerous, but they both grew. There were plenty of issues that could of made this a full book and I think it would of been nice to have their story and length of their relationship expanded a bit. They have cameos in the next book though so if you’re looking for a bit more you’ll find it there. The epilogue was a perfect. ending for this super steamy novella. I of course loved the sibling bond between Case, Crew and Kody. I can’t wait for Kody and Hill’s story.

This was a great intro to a new series. It had just the right balance of humor, heart, drama and smexy and characters I want to get to know better.

Crew and Della were a lot of fun. Crew is a sweetheart, he really is. He may not know when to reign it in, but the man is a good one with more charm and charisma than he knows what to do with. Della is a spitfire. Hardworking and stubborn, she know what she wants and isn’t afraid to do what it takes to make it happen. Though things happen quickly between them, there was enough of that spark, that connection, between them that had me believing that they could have more if they were given the chance. The roadblock in their journey wasn’t unexpected, though what brought them back together was and I have to say I didn’t see that one coming, but I really liked how things turned out for them when everything was said and done.

Things tend to be quick in a novella, and they did here, but I felt like I got everything I needed and wanted out of it in the end. A romance that felt like it could happen, a little drama, a little humor and a couple of characters whose books I’m definitely looking forward to so I can get to know them better, so bring on Case and Kody’s books!

Two people, as opposite as can be, somehow find their way to one another. A big city girl, doing everything to prove herself worthy and a country boy doing everything to prove he isn’t. I was enamored with both Crew and Della from the start. They were incredibly intriguing and endearing. Their chemistry was sizzling and captivating.

I was surprised how much depth Crownover was able to convey in this story. As it’s a novella, I expected things to feel more rushed but that wasn’t the case. We were given a full and complex story with bold characters. Action, romance, passion, and a bit of danger made this one unputdownable. The inclusion of Crew’s family works perfectly to set up future books in the series. I can’t wait to get to know the Lawton family better! They definitely have some stories to tell.

Rarely do I read a novella, but the blurb for UNBROKEN demanded I give it a chance and I am so glad I did! I’ve read Jay Crownover before and know that she builds dynamic worlds that draw you in and make you feel like you are living in them, UNBROKEN is no exception. Cowboy romances are my favorite and I am a super fan of Lorelei James, the queen of cowboy romance, so when I say Jay Crownover did a superb job with her first cowboy romance, it means I really liked UNBROKEN!

UNBROKEN is a opposites attract romance with a feisty heroine, a down on his luck but determined cowboy set in a small town with intriguing family dynamics that I can’t wait to learn more about. I cannot wait to visit Lawless, Texas again!

𝐔𝐧𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐧, the amazing introductory novella to Jay Crownover’s brand-spankin’-new 𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴, 𝘛𝘦𝘹𝘢𝘴 series, is available now and you DO NOT want to miss out on this ride, my friends! This opposites attract romance had me grinning and swooning all over the place! Crew and Della’s story had so much heart…so much soul…so much emotion, you won’t be able to help but finish it in a single sitting. Their happily ever after definitely pumped me up for what's to come in this series! This complicated and stubborn southern family will drive you crazy, but they will steal your heart just the same.

Me when Jay Crownover announced that she was publishing the Loveless, Texas series.

description

I've been waiting two years for Crownover to bring this series to life and the time has finally come for us to meet the Lawton family! If you've read the Marked Men then you'll be familiar the small town of Loveless and I'm low key hoping we get some Marked Men cameos because I NEED! Anyways, let me stop fangirling and actually get to this review.

Unbroken is a sweet and suspenseful novella that introduces us to the youngest Lawton sibling, Crew. Crew Lawton has earned one hell of a reputation on the rodeo circuit but soon finds himself short on his luck when he gambles himself in too deep. In order to pay back his remaining debt and to keep his family safe, he agrees to become the face of a new men's skin care line developed by Della Deveaux. Della is putting her dreams into the hands of Crew and hopes that the success of her new product line will impress her father. But when sparks start to fly between this unlikely pair, will Della and Crew decide to take a chance to see where things can go or will deadly circumstances keep these two apart?

So we all have that one author or two that we willing read whatever they write and Jay Crownover is that author for me. Listen, cowboy romances are not my cup of tea but I was willing to give it a go for Crownover and thankfully she did not disappoint. Crew Lawton may be the first cowboy hero that I actually like. He has the signature characteristics of a Crownover hero: a man who's had numerous fuck ups but now he's trying to clean up his act for the better. Crew is rough around the edges and a bit broken because he believes he deserves all the shit he's been dealt. But the man does have good intentions and he also has a big heart when it comes to his family and he's willing to do whatever he needs to to keep them safe. Della is the complete opposite of Crew as she's all about business. She plays by the rules, never has a hair out of place and she doesn't let her guard down for anyone—that is until she met Crew. The thing I loved most about Crew and Della is that even though they come from completely different lifestyles, they both have something to offer to each other and help better one another overall. Della was the push that Crew needed to decide whether or not he was gonna keep on living the life he was living or if he was gonna clean up his act and Crew made Della see that sometimes you have to take chances in life because the reward is worth it in the end. The romance was sweet and had a little steam to it but I wanted more! That's literally my only complaint about this book—I NEED MORE OF DELLA AND CREW! Also, I can't forget to mention the other two Lawton siblings, Case and Kody. You can definitely tell that these three have a close bond, even when they're not seeing eye-to-eye, and I'm hoping we get to see more of their relationship as the series continues.

❝ Nothing was no longer good enough, I wanted more than that. I wanted everything.❞

Unbroken was a good start to the Loveless, Texas series and I can't wait to see what Crownover has in stores for us next! I can't even begin to control my excitement for Case's book so expect to hear me screaming about it for the next month, lol.

I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

When I first heard about this series I couldn't imagine to read a book from Jay Crownover that involved cowboys.  I've always thought of her writing a bit edgier than that.  But I was extremely curious so I decided to give this a shot.  UNBROKEN is the start of the Loveless Texas series and it's definitely more of a small town contemporary romance than a cowboy romance.  Which, surprisingly, worked really well for me!

This is about one of the bad boy Lawton sibling.  He's a big rodeo star with a gambling problem, and the gambling debts he's secretly gotten himself into have now jeopardized his career and his family's safety.  In order to finish paying off the debt he has to agree to take on a modeling job that he would've never otherwise found himself involved with.  A new skin care line for men.  And that skin care line if the baby product of our heroine, who wants to prove to her father that her ideas will make their company money.

I guess you could say this is a forced proximity story because they have to reluctantly work together and spend time together as a result.  I would've loved to see more of the rodeo in this one, but at the same time it was nice to not have that big element changing the feel of the story.  It's just a quick and fun story and I think it sets up the series nicely.

I may not have fallen in love with Crew and Della, but from the little bit we know of the Lawton older brother Case I'm so ready for his book.  I think Ms. Crownover has definitely put her stamp on this series and I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes from here.

I am a sucker for a bad boy (but Jay already knows this). Especially one that wears wranglers, and is crazy enough to ride Broncos. This world is something new for Jay, so I didn’t know what to expect, but was not disappointed. She added a little spice along with her drama, so it was mixed up nicely. Crew and Della’s chemistry was believable and hot!
I can’t wait to meet Crew’s big brother, Case!! I love me a Law man!! ;-)

This is a novella getting us more ready for the Lawtons in Loveless, Texas. This one is about Crew Lawton, middle brother, rodeo star, and total screw up. He's impulsive, a risk taker, adrenaline junkie, womanizer, and has some bad vices...some so bad that he now owes a lot of money to a dangerous man. His life is spiraling fast and just as he hits rock bottom, there is a little unexpected glimmer of hope.

Della Deveaux is his opposite. She is controlled, cautious, driven, and hard working. She has spent her life trying to impress and get affection from her father. As she keeps trying to prove herself in business, she needs a face for her new mens' line. And for some reason her father wants it to be Crew.

Opposites attract and all that, but despite their conflicting personality traits, these two are also truly from different worlds and circumstances.

At first there is some antagonism as she wants to tame him and mold him. But then that charisma of his just keeps shining through. Somehow they balance each other with her soothing his raw edges and restlessness, and him adding a bit more spontaneity and passion to her life. It's the rule breaker versus the rule follower. The King of Chaos and the Queen of control.

But Crew's life is a big mess that is dragging him down and could affect those he cares about. And she has a new line to focus on in a world consumed by image and status. So what happens when it all comes to a boil? Is feeling good and being a little bad worth the risk?

This is a fast-paced, suspenseful, sexy, opposites-attract series starter. It is a novella so things do occur pretty quickly or some occurred off scene, but there was enough conflict and suspense to make it interesting. I enjoyed getting the dual points of view and thought Crew and Della had great chemistry. The characters both had some growing to do and needed to push the boundaries of their expectations. The changing scenes from the rodeo, to New York, to Loveless added more interest. I cannot wait to return to Loveless for more with his stoic big brother, Case, and spitfire sister, Kody. These Lawtons have plenty of personality and issues.

I really enjoyed Crew and Della's connection in Unbroken. They were the epitome of "opposites attract" which made it even more satisfying. When this rodeo tough guy agrees to be the "face" for Della's new cosmetics line, you knew he had to be in dire need of money. As this was a novella, things move pretty quickly so I'm not going to tell much more about the story itself. Suffice it to say, this novella not only gives us their story but sets the groundwork for this series. We get to meet Crew's other siblings and get more backstory on not just his family but a little about Della's too. In addition, at the end of Unbroken, they provide the prologue for the next book in the series which will be Crew's brother, Case's book. It sounds great, so I'm definitely looking forward to reading it.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Unbroken does an excellent job of setting up the Loveless, Texas series - we get to meet all 3 Lawton siblings (Crew, Case, and Kody) as well as get a glimpse of the interesting dynamic they have amongst themselves and with their patriarch. I didn’t really like Crew in the beginning of the book; it wasn’t until he started taking his commitment to Della and his task Seriously that I could see that he had some redeeming qualities. I also had to remind myself that addiction comes in many forms and no one asks for that kind of trouble, so I had to give him some slack. I think I would’ve enjoyed the book more if the page count was higher - there was so much more potential to dive in deeper with Crew and Della. But as an intro to a new series, it totally works and I look forward to reading Case’s story in Justified (small town sheriff - yes please!), as well as Kody’s in Unforgiven! 3.5 out of 5 wine glasses.

I enjoyed this introduction to the Lawton family. Della and Crew were good together and showed that opposites can indeed work. Crew had got himself in to a bit of trouble and needed to do something he would not normally do to make some money. Crew was not Della's usual type but they hit it off straight away and felt comfortable together. Loved the Lawton's siblings dynamic and after reading the prologue to Case's book - I would love to dive right in, if only it was out!

Thanks to NetGalley for the copy.

Original review: A Novel Glimpse

Note: This review is for an ARC and is my unbiased opinion.

Unbroken was a really fun way to begin a new series. Crew and Della were complete opposites and I liked what that effect that had on the story and their relationship. There were so many great little moments between them. I’m a little sad this was just a novella because I could have read an entire book about Crew and Della. Unbroken made me excited for what’s to come in Loveless, Texas.

Actual rating: 3.5.

Unbroken is my first Jay Crownover book and the first in the Loveless series. It's also a novella which is a bit different for me because I don't read many. I find with novellas I just spend most of my time wishing they were full-length books, especially when they're well written and there's no question that Jay Crownover is a fantastic writer. I love these small town, family-focused type books and this series seems right up my street but this novella was just okay for me.

Don't get me wrong, this book was good, but it could have been so much better as a full-length novel. There was so much space for these characters to grow, especially Crew who starts the book being very much non-hero material. He does get a bit of a character arc, and he definitely becomes a worthy romance hero by the end, it just would have been nice to see more of it. The relationship too could have benefited from more pages, they had some really cute moments that I would have loved to read more of. They start out being so different, in a fun enemies-to-lovers kind of way that quickly delves into more and I would have loved to spend more time with them and their romance.

All that being said I'm definitely excited for Crew's big brother's book. Not only because it's full-length, but also because Case is a sheriff and it has hints of the bodyguard trope which I love, and also some more delicious enemies-to-lovers romance.
