What's faster than a cheetah?--no animal on earth can run faster. But a peregrine falcon can swoop faster than a cheetah can run. And the falcon can't compare to an airplane, a rocket, or the speed of light.
About Robert Wells Robert E. Wells is the author and illustrator of many intriguing and award-winning science books for children. He lives with his wife in Wenatchee, Washington.
Welcome Robert E. Wells’s books into your classroom, and you’ll find most of your science curriculum covered. The twelve volumes – engaging and informative, educational and inviting – provide second through fifth graders with lessons in science and math from astronomy to weather; from biology to measurement. Beyond the solid information that is the core of each book, Wells also introduces concepts that offer students deeper understanding of the subjects at hand. His conversational tone and thought-provoking questions will lead children to questions of their own. And that is the beginning of all scientific learning.
Another fun and informative title in the Wells of Knowledge series. This one deals with speed, and starts with a cheetah, then a peregrine falcon, but quickly progresses to man-made vehicles, then space objects, and ends with light. It's a nice way to learn about speed even before the actual "miles per hour" stats mean a whole lot to kids. I confess, I probably couldn't have told you whether a meteoroid was faster than a rocket or not, so I learned something too.
(they don't have a kindle option here on this read? didn't read the hardcover, just saying!) these tend to be on the smaller side of books ...but they are so stocked for all of info ... that is what makes them so cool. i am learning ... being an adult kid ... u wanna keep learning.
This is an engaging non-fiction book that not only illustrates useful facts about the natural world, but also introduces key scientific and critical thinking concepts such as free associations, formulating questions and making comparisons. Fun illustrations, too.
