The Geek and the Goddess

Rate this book
People always say they wish they could predict the future. But not me. I already know my future. I’m going to lose my sight. I don’t know exactly when, but it’s going to happen. And it’s the reason I’ll never fall in love.

At least that’s what I thought. Until one day a guy walks into my chem class and changes all that.

I thought for sure he'd avoid me after he saw how people at school treat me. The teasing. The nicknames. Just being seen with me is enough to ruin his reputation, yet this guy still wanted to date me. And he wouldn’t take no for an answer.

That’s how it began. How it ended is not at all what I expected. Ours is an unlikely love story.

Wes puts up with her crap

I didn't like this book . I thought Luna was a bitch. I was disappointed it took 60% of the book before she told Wes she was going blind. She lied to him at every turn. She was stubborn and when he told her that she said what does that mean. Oh god. I love Allies books but this one what a waste of time and money. The only reason it even got 2 stars was becouse I thought Wes was awesome .

Another one of my this year's summer reads that i never had time to write a review about.

I don't often venture into YA sphere, cause well, they tend to be annoyingly immature LOL well duh, they are teens and all, but I simply realized that I don't really have the patience to read about the time I can't relate to anymore (read: I'm a grown ass baddass mother of two LOL) and I will probably wait until my own kids come to these tricky ages so I can mayble recommened them this or that ;)

anyway, this was actually an unusual love story of a sort...
He was a geek
and she was a goddess (only by name) - Luna, a goddess of the moon *wink*

and he was a boy who defined the word "different" in every dictionary that would describe a tipical teen to you, this boy was more than that, and anything but. Unually smart and wise for his age, he was the carrier of the whole story.

Even though, his wisdom more often than not, sounded like he was reading out of the "How to improve your own self-esteem handbook", some of the lines were in fact pretty damn awakening and they made me reflect and think...hell yes, this could in fact be a good book for any teen out there, who is searching for himself, trying to figure out where he/she fits or NOT and maybe just apply one or two of the given wisdoms...

in that regard, this is a worthy book, in regard of the story per se, not so much. The pacing was slow and it was really hard to focus...and nothing is dramatically happening exept for the "inner growth" of the main heroine, who in fact does NEED a double dose of "self-esteem" boost and belief in herself and her possibilities, inspite of the bad cards handed to her.

one of my favorites quotes that i have found here and I ALSO practice them in my everyday life, even now...*wink*
People only get power over you if you give it to them.

Just like people, words don't have power unless you give them it

I know what I like and when I find it, I don't keep looking for something better. I don't care if they're not perfect. If I chose them, then they're perfect for me and that's all that matters.

now, that's all folks! ;)

This book had sooooooo much potential.....

While I enjoyed it, I'm disappointed too. Disappointed in the fact that this could have been a fabulous YA read. This story ranged anywhere from 2 stars to 5 at any point in time. For me, the heroine is what kept it from becoming phenomenal. I wish the author had made her a bit less whine-y and complain-y. She absolute has every right to be those things but had it been spun in a slightly different way at times, I would have loved Luna instead of just tolerating her.

Even though I didn't like everything, I did fly through and inhale it in no time. I couldn't wait to find out what happened with the pair, and Wes is a truly lovable character.

It was ok

I love Allie Everhart, she's one of my favorite authors. But I didn't care for this book. Matter of fact I skipped half of it, the characters sounds childish. Honestly the last couple books I stopped reading because it sounds childish. Nothing like her other books, maybe because they are in high school? Almost seemed like Allie didn't write this. It was okay but not the best if it wasn't free I would of returned it.

This was awful! The main female character was so weak to read, a damsel in distress, and I just found her so unlikeable. No character and had a constant self pity party. Would not recommend at all even if you had nothing else to read! Just don’t.

Whiny Heroine

It was hard to get through this book due to the whining of the heroine. The hero had to constantly reassure her that he would continue to love her despite the obstacle that was facing her not only him but every supporting character that was in this book.

A weak 3 stars.

This one lost stars because of the h (Luna). It really could have been a solid 4 or even 5 star book, except for her character dragging it down. I know I haven't been in her shoes, but at the same time, if I had a diagnosis like that, I would like to think I wouldn't be still moping and whining and doing NOTHING for the future a full year after the diagnosis. Was she really planning on doing absolutely nothing for the rest of her life? Just letting her parents take care of her?Just waiting for what might or might not happen? I might not have known exactly what I wanted to do in my life at 16, but doing what she did (or didn't) - I'd go crazy!! She's not trying to take advantage of things before she loses her sight - even doing reckless or stupid things would have been more proactive. She's not looking at what she could be doing even without sight. She's just not doing anything! I know her parents were trying to help, but I think they might have pushed a little harder for her to talk to someone, look for a support group, make some plans, something. I know the character is still only 16, but I still wanted to tell her to Just Grow UP!

The H, Wes, on the other hand was great. As has been mentioned before, I do love an adorkable hero. And he's an old soul too, so some of the things he points out to Luna or pushes her to do are things that we could all be reminded of. Like giving people and their words power over us. All that sort of stuff. He just needed a stronger heroine than Luna.

Free on Kindle when I found it. No cheating, sweet and clean standalone YA romance. A sweet geeky H. Just a miserable, weak heroine that detracted from what could have been a really good YA romance.

She’s an outcast at school, just trying to fade into the background. He’s the new guy from California who does his own thing.

Luna is quiet and keeps to herself. She has one friend, Stella her bff. She is teased and tormented mercilessly in high school. She’s always stumbling into things but it’s because she has a big secret. A secret that’s tearing her up and changing the course of her life.

Wes is Luna’s total opposite. He’s adventurous and fearless. He does what he wants and doesn’t care what people say behind his back. He’s super intelligent and talented and just a really great guy.

Wes is immediately drawn to Luna and lets her know. However, she’s been so broken down, letting Wes inside her walls is going to take patience and persistence.

These two young people connect and form a bond. A friendship turns into so much more. Luna struggles, but Wes is always there to listen and push her when she needs it.

This story was sweet but also heart breakingly sad. However, watching love develop and flourish between Wes and Luna was just beautiful. She found her person. The one to help her live her best life. Life sometimes hands you the unexpected, but it’s how you overcome and live a full life that matters.

To him, she was a goddess; to her, he was a geek in shining armor.

I need an epilogue to this and a part 2 because Wes is amazing. Also did anyone else though about Molly Burke while reading this? (Just saying it cause she has the same illness as Luna and also went blind quite young and suffered depression because of it) if you don’t know who she is and would like to know more about what Luna might have been going through check out Molly’s YT channel :)

Fabulous!

This story is very different from most of the author's work but every bit as good. I loved the hero, and it was so satisfying to see the heroine come kicking and screaming into her own. Good job!

A really sweet story that long time Allie Everhart readers will enjoy. Perfect book for introducing your teen to Allie Everhart's writing as it's written in more of a YA style and toned down a bit from her more mature themed books.
