Pet Portraits Mystery #3

Murder on the Movie Set

Rate this book

A stroke of luck introduces Georgie to her favorite actor, and then thrusts her into a mystery she can’t resist investigating.

Georgie Kaye is waiting for a pet portrait client when she wins a day pass for a behind-the-scenes visit to a movie staring her and her twin sister, Aleta’s, favorite actor, Dustin Stetson.

Once on set, the feisty sexagenarian twins are enthralled watching a movie being made, delighting in the thrill of celebrity and the delectable sweets catered on set.  The movie-like dream crashes back to reality when the producer collapses and dies on set, apparently of a heart-attack.

Georgie can’t resist following her suspicions of foul play, and uses some fancy footwork to get herself and Aleta invited back for another day on the movie set.  This time, Dustin Stetson takes a special interest in Aleta (and her fascinating feet), giving Georgie time to follow her hunches about why a rich movie producer ate a healthy meal and then keeled over dead.

Along with her detective ex-husband Stan, Georgie works to solve a mystery she is convinced is murder. Will they get the happy ending just like in the movies?

This is book 3 in the Pet Portrait Cozy mystery series, but can be enjoyed as a stand alone.

“Murder on the Movie Set” earns 5/5 Behind-the-Scenes Mysteries…Such Fun!

I am such a fan of this delightful ‘dynamic duo.’ Sexagenarians Georgia and Aleta are twins, and although opposites in many ways, they have some similarities…like favorite actors. Georgia and Aleta are thrilled with their behind-the-scenes access to the making of a movie starring their favorite actor Dustin Stetson…and of course, the sweets are overflowing at the craft service table. But, it’s the death of the producer that was not part of the script. That’s where it gets good. Sandi Scott has once again penned a very entertaining story, not very long at less than 130 pages, but don’t shy away because it’s not short on excitement. Georgia doesn’t believe it was a simple case of ‘natural causes’ having witnessed all the on-set tension with egos, desperation, and power struggles, and ingratiates herself onto the set an extra couple of days to pursue answers. Answers that could spell ‘Cut!’ for someone else. The rapport between the sisters is humorous and one that many sisters, like me, can identify with, and the connections with her ex-husband/detective Stan just adds to the out loud giggles. But beyond the fun characters, there is a clever well-paced mystery with several suspects with motive and opportunity to keep you guessing. There are animals, too, for us lovers of the ‘furry’ characters, but it is the humans that really are the star of the show…I highly recommended this series, and for newbies you can start with this third book easily enough.

I liked this book, especially the cover because I have a husky doggie. However, I thought the killer was revealed too easily and there wasn't much build up in my opinion; it also ended really abruptly. I'm still excited to continue this series because Georgia and Aleta are hilarious!

Murder on the Movie Set is book three in Sandi Scott's Pet Portraits Cozy mystery series. In this book we are reunited with Georgie and her twin sister. Georgie is commissioned to do some pet portraits of some chow chows, but while she is waiting on the lady to arrive she tunes into the local radio station. Right at that moment, they are running a contest for tickets to visit a movie set for a movie being made locally. Georgie calls on a whim and wins the tickets! After meeting the client and the chow chows she'll be painting, she goes home and tells her sister the good news. The next day they head to the movie set and quickly begin indulging their sweet tooths at the crafts services tables. While there they quickly notice some tension and drama around the set. Not everyone is happy with how things are and it's not long before someone ends up dead. Georgie true to form makes it her business to help solve this case, and have a bit of fun along the way.
I was more than thrilled to be reunited with Georgie and her sister. The dynamics between these two characters is absolutely fun and I love it. Georgie manages to get them onto the movie set with a little lie concerning her sister. The humor is just so fun. I also love the chemistry that is still there between Georgie and her ex-husband. It literally gives me heartache. There is some danger but nothing so serious that you fear for Georgie or her sister. The list of suspects is there and trying to figure out who-done-it is the task at hand.
The author keeps me engaged throughout the story yet again. I couldn't put this book down. I loved all the quirks and fun that the two sisters have. The laughs that are had at each others expense is worth it all. The only thing that I would complain about concerning this book is that Georgie only had one scene with the chow chows. I was hoping to get to read about her attempts at painting the lively pooches for their portraits. I'm sure it would have made a fun laugh.
All in all, I'm rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. The author keeps me engaged throughout. I love that I'm given clues and hints but that until the last I'm not 100% sure who the killer is. Well done and my kind of mystery.

I received an ARC copy of the book. I have read all the books in this series and this is the best one yet! I really enjoy the twins, Georgie and Aleta! They know how to live and have a great time while in their 60’s. Since they are my age, I can identify with them. I love how they play jokes on each other and the sticky situations they get themselves into. The plot is tighter in this book and the characters are well developed. There are plenty of suspects and likeable supporting characters. I found the ending to be satisfying. This would make a great TV movie on a cable channel.

The first chapter is a hilarious encounter between Georgie and the chow chows she is commissioned to paint live instead of from a picture. We find out near the end of the book that she hasn’t been able to paint them yet. I hope we get to see more of them in the next book!

Georgie Kaye is listening to the radio while she is waiting to meet her next client. The radio station announces a give away for 2 passes to go on location for a movie that is filming in the area. Georgie decides to take a chance because the movie is starring one of her sister-Aleta’s favorite actors-Dustin Stetson. Georgie wins the tickets, so she and Aleta excitedly arrive on set the next morning about getting to meet the actors. To their disappointment, Dustin is not on set that day. This disappointment aside they make their way to the Craft Food table and couldn’t be happier with the delicious food they find. Once they have eaten they go to watch one of the scenes being shot, everyone seems to be stress and the producer is being demanding and difficult. While the cast and crew are on their lunch break they suddenly hear a scream coming from the trailers. Everyone runs to the producer's trailer he is laying on his floor dead from an apparent heart attack. Georgie can’t help but question how a young seemingly healthy man can just die from a heart attack. She can’t help but start asking questions to find out if this was truly a heart attack or murder.

I really enjoy the give and take that the twin sisters-Georgie and Aleta-have with one another. The aliments each one comes up with for the other when they are crafting their stories for snooping are hilarious. The relationship between Georgie and ex-husband and police detective is also very entertaining. Although there are not a lot of suspects in this book, Mrs. Scott does a good job adding in a few red-herrings to keep the suspense going until the end. Quirky characters, well-developed story, well-paced mystery, and just the right amount of humor. I recommend this book to cozy mystery fans.

**I was provided with an ARC of this book with the hopes I would review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

CLEVER!

This is Book 3 in the Pet Portrait Cozy Mystery Series but it can be read as a stand alone book. Georgie Kaye is a Pet Artist. While waiting to meet her next client, she wins two passes to go on the set of a movie. She can’t wait to take her twin sis Aleta because Aleta’s crush is one of the stars in the movie. If you know Georgie and Aleta at all, there are two things they can’t stay away from - sweets and a good mystery! Well, at least Georgie is drawn to the mystery part like a bee to a honey hive! While the girls are visiting the set, they make several new friends but also discover just how difficult moviemaking really is and how much conflict is involved. They find themselves in the midst of a crime scene - again! They manage to get invited back on the set for a second day and Georgie can’t help it if she’s just drawn to help the police investigate the case! Aleta puts up with so much from her twin but they have such a strong bond and always come through for each other. It’s a good thing Georgie can count on her ex-husband Stan (the detective) to pay attention to her and her wild and crazy ideas about crimes that she thinks might have happened a certain way. They have a really great relationship- for people who are no longer married! Will Stan catch the culprit? Equally important- will Stan catch Georgie? Will he be able to keep her if he catches her? I received an ARC of this book from the author. The thoughts expressed here are completely my own personal opinions and without influence.

While arranging for her next pet portrait commission, Georgie Kaye wins tickets from a radio station to go on location for a day with a movie being shot in the area. The movie stars Dustin Stetson, her twin sister’s secret crush, so Georgie takes Aleta along as her “plus one.” To their disappointment, Dustin is not shooting that day, but the sisters are delighted by the offerings on the Craft Services tables.

On location that day is the film’s difficult producer, Jason Hobbs, who stresses out everyone with his micromanaging. He screams at the caterer, demands the best lines of the ingénue be given to a minor male character, and continually orders major changes in the director’s plans and holding up production.

Breaking for lunch is a relief for everyone except the producer, from all appearances a young, healthy man, who suddenly has a fatal heart attack. But from all the gossip on set, Georgie is convinced Hobbs’ death is not from natural causes. When the lead detective investigating the death, her ex-husband, Stan Toon, decides there is no need to look into the death any further, Georgie finagles another couple of days on the set to investigate on her own.

The rapport between the two sisters and with Stan continues to develop and is vastly entertaining. The plot is straightforward, yet satisfying. The Chicago-area settings are fun and familiar. Although the series features pets, they are not the sole focus of the stories – it’s more about the people, their relationships, and the crime-solving. This story is highly recommended for cozy mystery readers.

Another fun cozy mystery with my favorite hilarious sister team!

This is the third book in the Pet Portrait Series and not only does the mystery keep you guessing, but the sisters are at it again with their attitudes, personalities and shear fun! Georgie wins a pair of tickets to see behind the scenes on the filming of a movie. Of course the quiet and straight laced sister, Aleta accompanies her to the set and is so excited to see her favorite movie star in action! Of course you see actors' egos in play, an obnoxious producer and a director who needs this film to get him back in the directing scene. Well with a murder on scene while the sisters are there pandemonium sets in and the sisters feel they must investigate and find a murderer. And of course, Stan, a detective and Georgie's ex-husband is also on scene. There is so much fun, and laugh out loud scenes you can't put the book down once you start! A home run for the author! I received and ARC from the author, but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

"Two Amateur Sleuths On The Hunt"

Georgie Kaye is an older divorced woman living north of Chicago. She enjoys painting portraits of beloved animals for her clientele. Her twin sister, Aleta, is widowed and a retired accountant. They enjoy times together, especially sleuthing on local crimes, and even murder. Georgie's husband, Stan, always advises them to leave the investigation to the cops. But they never do, they're just too curious. Georgie has won two passes to visit the movie making set for "This Summer," starring Ryn Hudson and Dustin Stetson. They browse the set and also enjoy the baker's food provided free ... especially the sweet treats. Soon, they hear yelling and move near a large trailer where the executive producer, Jason Hobbs, is found dead, assumed to be from a heart attack. However, there is some evidence the women discover which can be evidence of murder. This story is totally fun to read, a real cozy story to cuddle up with. It's very evident that Sandi Scott loves writing and she really entertains her readers. Highly recommend.

While waiting for Lori Friedman to arrive home to discuss a pet portrait, Georgie wins two tickets to the filming of "This Summer." The movie stars Aleta's favorite actor, Dustin Stetson.

On the movie set, chaos reigns as the Director, Robbie Dodson, shoots and re-shoots the same scene numerous times. Ryn Hudson, one of the main actresses, is complaining about lines being cut and the entire set seems to be immersed in pandemonium. Many are blaming the tension on the Producer, Jason Hobbs, who seems to thrive on the turmoil.

When Jason Hobbs dies of an apparent heart attack, everything comes to a standstill. Nobody seems to mourn the loss.

Was it really just a heart attack or was Jason murdered? Can Georgie convince Stan that there is more to the story? Can Georgie and Aleta discover the truth?

This story is a little slower than the earlier books, but that is to be expected when it is not a clear cut crime. Many of the characters fit the image of stuck-up Hollywood types! Well Done!! The only thing left hanging is whether or not the Pet Portrait got completed!

Pet portrait artist Georgia Faye cannot believe her luck when she wins a day pass for a behind the scenes visit on the movie set for her favorite actor Dustin Stetson. Who else would she bring along but her sister Aleta? They find themselves enjoying delectable sweets from the on-set caterer, excited to meet tons of celebrities, and fascinated by watching the movie being made from behind the scenes.

When the producer collapses and dies from an apparent heart attack, Georgie once again finds herself unraveling a mystery. She can’t help but have suspicions that foul play took place and works Dustin Stetson’s fascination with Aleta to get invited back to the set.

I love the hijinks of this story, the love-hate relationship between Georgia and her detective ex-husband Stan, and the sass and banter between Georgie and her sister Aleta. This is the third book in the series but it can be read as a standalone. It is filled with lots of madcap adventure, humor, mystery, and quirky characters.

Another great book by Sandi Scott! The 3rd book of the series meet us once again with the sleuth Georgie - while waiting for a late client, Georgie founds herself calling the radio on a whim and ends up winning a pair of passes for a movie set. Of course, her sister Aleta accompanies her on site with the hope to meet her favourite actor, starring in the movie.

As usual, where the sisters are, bodies start to appear - this time it's the producer's. Never to back down, Georgie puts her thinking hat and dives straight in to find the murderer. While getting themselves into hilarious situations and causing havoc, the sisters get to the bottom of the case in no time.

I would love to see where the slow but steady re-kindling between Stan and Georgie would go. Looking forward to the sisters antics in the next book!

Georgie, forced to wait for a late client, phoned a radio station and, as caller number fifteen, ended up on a movie set. Never let it be said my favorite twins can't create chaos wherever they go. Find a dead body, break into a trailer, tell a fib or two (think polydactylism), Georgie will stop at nothing - not only does she have a murder to solve, her twin sister Aleta has yet to meet her favorite movie star. If you like laughter and zany characters, I cannot recommend this series enough. I always look forward to what the sugar loving twins are going to be up to next.
I volunteered to be part of the launch reading team on this book. It's one of two series I've read by the author and I love them both. I will gladly volunteer to read any book by this author.

Sandi Scott has done it again. This is the third book in this series "Pet Portraits Mystery". I have read all three and I have enjoyed each of them very much. I love the way Sandi has written the twin sisters Georgie and Aleta. They are so cute together and you can just picture them when you are reading these stories. Then you have the wonderful interaction between Georgie and Stan her ex and also the local cop. This is a cozy mystery so if you are looking for lots of hard core mystery you will not find it in this story. But if you like a cute funny can't wait to finish the book to see where it will go then you must read this book.

You have got to read this book!!! The characters are great and the plot keeps you turning the pages just to see what could possibly go wrong next. Being a twin brings a whole new set of problems to sisters Georgie and Aleta. Georgie cannot help but get involved in solving mysteries. She is so curious and loves digging for the truth. Aleta just wants a nice quiet life, however, with such a crazy sister it is not to be. This is the third book in this series that I have read and the characters keep getting better with each new story. Anyone who loves cozy mysteries will absolutely love this book.

I love these twins in this series! Oh and the ex-husband adds to the supporting cast. The girls are thrilled when they win a behind the scenes look at a movie being made by Aleta's favorite actor. But then the producer falls over apparently from a heart attack. Georgie isn't so sure. For her things are not adding up correctly. Can Georgie, Aleta and Stan (the ex) figure out if this actually was a case of natural causes or murder? You will need to read the book to find out. I voluntarily reviewed ARC of this book and the opinion is my own.

This is the third "Pet Portraits" book I've read and also the funniest. There is one problem I had; you can't read this in bed if your husband is sleeping. It's extremely hard to not laugh out loud but when you hold it in your body starts shaking and my husband thought I was having a seizure because the mattress started jumping. These books are just the right length between those deep, dark books. I received this book from the author in return for a fair and honest review. Sometimes you get lucky. I did.

This is a cute look into the making of a movie. When Georgie wins a pass to a "behind the scenes" movie making, she takes her sister Aleta. Of course, the two ladies find the "sweets" table almost immediately. Their fun antics get them in trouble in more ways than one. But Georgie's persistance in discovering that the death of the producer was not natural but really murder. Murder is what Georgie does best. She keeps at it until she gets the culprit.

The story is entertaining and easy to read. I received an advanced copy for an honest review.

This is the third book in the series, and the fun just keeps continuing. There are laugh-out-loud moments that just make you keep going, because you want to see what's going to happen next! Great plot, great characters, and simply the type of book/story that's the norm for Sandi Scott! This cozy mystery takes place on a movie set and offers a plot that keeps you guessing till the very end! Another winning book by Sandi! Can't wait for the next one! Quick read that kept me interested until the very end! Love Ms. Scott's writing style. She can fit in so much information but it never bogs down the story line. Aleta and Georgie are so much fun. Will Georgie and Stan get back together again? They seem to have chemistry! Didn't get into the pet portrait which would have been a real challenge with those dogs!! All in all a very fun read. And just look at the cover art!

The third book in this series featuring a pair of twins who get involved in mysteries, this time they are on the set of a film starring their favourite actor, when the murder occurs, and naturally they have to solve the mystery. Lots of humour, some hilarious and a bit of romance added on to the excellent plot and you have a great cosy mystery.

This is the second book by Sandi Scott that I have read.

I love the way she writes and if I paid attention to the story I would have figured out what happened earlier.

I love the interaction between Georgie and Stan. I love the way the twins get along and tease each other.

Even if you read what the story is about it still grabs you by the hand and keeps you guessing.

I think you will like the book as much as I did.

I'm such a huge fan of the twins, I'd love to be Georgie when I grow up.

Its so refreshing to read heroines who are not twenty somethings, but are full of life experience.

And as Sandi Scott characters, they're madcap funny!!

Another fun adventure with the twins, their families, and a few celebrities this time, to shake things up.

If you like a modern twist on Cozy Mysteries, and heroines with elan and flair, read on!

This is a great book for you!

I love Aleta and Georgie. What fun it would it be to have a twin. The whole concept of the pet portraits is an added benefit for all pet owners and lovers. I enjoy the interaction between the two sisters, and also the sparring between the ex wife and ex husband. . I love the heroines in this book! They are identical twins who are in their 60s. The twin sisters are up to their necks in a murder on a movie set with movie stars, directors and the nasty producer.

This was a really cute read about two older twin sisters who find themselves in the midst of a murder investigation. Georgie and Aleta have won tickets to a movie set through a radio contest. While there, the producer is murdered. Georgie and Aleta begin to sleuth and ultimately discover who is to blame. The gals' silly antics will keep you in giggles!

My fifth read from author Sandi Scott and the third in The Pet Portrait Mystery Series. I received an ARC of this book. The author does a wonderfully entertaining job in character & plot. An entertaining novelette that I very much enjoyed reading. The problem with short works is just that, they're short.

I received and advanced copy of this book to read and review. Cozy mysteries are a bit of an indulgence for me so I was looking forward to discovering a new (to me) author. Although I enjoyed the quirky twin sisters, the book lacked the depth and dimension that I crave even in a cozy mystery. The ending felt a bit choppy and rushed.

I was given an and advanced reader copy of this book to read and review. In Sandi Scott's Third Installment of Pet Portrait's Mystery Series, a team of sisters Georgie, and Aleta track down a killer on a movie set. The sisters are crafty, witty women. The story relies heavily on dialogue, which gives it a fast pace. It was an enjoyable read. I would recommend this book to cozy mystery lovers.
