Broken Wishbones and Empty Spaces

Rate this book
This book is not for healing,
it is a shelter for your breaking
you will leave
but you'll leave whole.

This prolific collection of poems; “Broken Wishbones & Empty Spaces” explains what it means to be broken, how it feels to be broken, and how it feels to thirst for love while being broken. It is a book that understands and justifies the melancholy in love. Yet amidst this hurt, it still acknowledges love as a good thing, if only we could find it, give it, and take it the right way.

“Broken Wishbones & Empty Spaces” heals a reader simply by acknowledgment. It skillfully teaches how to gracefully bear love’s forlorn.

Pyrokardia's second collection of poetry couldn’t have been written in a better way and it is a perfect comrade and companion to his first collection titled “A Beautiful Mess”.

I'm done waiting
for my empty spaces
to be filled by
someone else

I'm going to
grown into them
by myself

I received a copy from the author in exchange for a honest review.

Firstly, this collection of poetry was slightly reminiscent of Rupi Kaur's Milk and Honey, which I loved!

Secondly, this book revolves around one particular theme. It is broken, for the broken-hearted, those who have trusted and have been betrayed and those who have loved and have been broken by it. These poems explore how they are on this constant loop of filling that gap in their chest that has been opened by a significant other — or anything else for that matter — with whatever they think might heal it again, i.e. toxic relationships. It's writing style was simple, with a tone of melancholy throughout, but effective and beautifully written at times. It's a collection that is relatable, especially if you have gone through the above, finding comfort and healing in it, though it isn't necessarily providing the reader with a solution. But there's nothing more comforting than being able to relate to others, to be understood and finding some form of sanctuary in it and I think this book does that.

This book will be available to buy on Amazon on January 22, 2017.

"Words may not break your bones but they can slip beneath your skin and rip your soul to shreds."

Aunque la poesía contemporánea no es mi genero favorito, últimamente me visto más y más atraída hacia ella.
Y me ha ido muy bien leyendo libros como Milk and honey y The Princess Saves Herself in this One.

Solo me dio sueño.

Sorry, esta vez en serio lo siento.

Pyrokardia sent me an Ebook version of his book in return for a honest review, and I am so thankful for that.

Broken Wishbones and Empty Spaces is actually the first poetry book I've ever read in my life. I promised myself to read more of this genre in 2017. So that's what I'll do!

I've only experienced a minor heartbreak in my life, but yet most of these poems hit me in the right spot. I could feel the author's emotions as if they were my own, or does that sounds weird? I hope not!

What I like about this book is that if you own the physical version of it you'll have a blank bit of space beneath the poems where you can fill in a title that speaks to you personally. I really like that idea.

So if you like poetry about heartbreak and love, or if you've never read a poetry book in your life, like me. I would definitely recommend you this book.

This book is an attestation that though love may cause us inexplicable hurt, it also brings life to us - redemption.

This poetry collection was sent to me in exchange of an honest review. As a lover of poetry I devoured this book like no other. Broken Wishbones and Empty Spaces is an attestation that though love may cause us inexplicable hurt, it also brings life to us - redemption. Pyrokardia's words resonate grief from being broken yet was also a reassurance that you'll come out of it if not better, then renewed. His poetry is something people could easily relate to and identify with. If you enjoyed Rupi Kaur's milk and honey and Amanda Lovelace's The Princess Saves Herself in This One, then I bet you would appreciate Broken Wishbones and Empty Spaces as well. The tone of this book is very reminiscent of the ones we often see on Instagram or Tumblr, however the author was able to put his own heart into it which I appreciate a whole lot. It's just an affirmation that love is universal, we may have different experiences but the pain is all the same. All is fair in love, so they say.

I could recommend this poetry book for new lovers of poetry. Pyrokardia's works are perfectly digestible and on point. Words used are simple yet have its own impact. It is definitely a good place to start when one would want to immerse himself to the beauty of poetry. I can't wait to see this author bloom in this craft since there is really a lot of potential.

It is just so heartrending how love cannot heal within a lifetime what it beaks within seconds. This prolific collection of poems; “Broken Wishbones & Empty Spaces” explains what it means to be broken, how it feels to be broken, and how it feels to thirst for love while being broken. It is a book that understands and justifies the melancholy in love. Yet amidst this hurt, what daunts me the most is that it still acknowledges love as a good thing, if only we could find it, give it, and take it the right way. “Broken Wishbones & Empty Spaces” heals a reader simply by acknowledgment. It skillfully teaches how to gracefully bear love’s forlorn.
Pyrokardia is a genius in creating images for emotions and tastes from mere words. Noorain Moosvi also did an impeccable job in illustrating for the reader in subtle ways, pains that may be easy to feel yet hard for some people to imagine.
“Broken Wishbones & Empty Spaces” couldn’t have been written in a better way and I will say that it is a perfect comrade and companion to Pyrokardia’s first collection of poems titled “A Beautiful Mess.”

I was contacted by Pyrokardia on instagram to do a review of Broken Wishbones and Empty Spaces. Overall, I liked this book of poems. A lot of the poems talk about love. Being in love, falling from love, loving love. While I did really enjoy them at first, after a little while they started become repetitive to me. It often had poems that were, in my opinion, very similar to previous ones. This kind of made the book drone on for me in some sections. I felt like I was reading the same poems over and over again in some instances. However, I think this could because I didn't relate to these poems personally. If love and romantic relationships are something you relate to or are interested in, then maybe Proykardia's poems are perfect for you!
That's not to say ALL the poems are about love. There are a handful about writing, and breathing, and just living. Those I really loved, and found myself bookmarking as I read. At times he captured what it's like to struggle with yourself, with anxiety, and with self confidence perfectly. There were also illustrations that went along with the poems, which is reminiscent of Milk and Honey to me.
Something I really enjoyed, and that was unique to Broken Wishbones and Empty Spaces, was Proykardia's author's note. In his note, he mentions how poems are a very personal thing to each person and how interpretations of them are always different for each individual. He encourages the reader to fill in the blank spaces above the poem with a title you seem fitting. I loved this about them poems, I think it really strives to include the reader in each section of poems.
Overall, I did have issues with this book of poetry, but I also did really enjoy some aspects of it, too!

"One day, I’ll find that person that’s going to make
me feel more than okay. Someone whose mere
entry into my life would be a cause for celebration.
Someone to share my sadness with. Someone I can
call at anytime of the day and wouldn’t be too
busy. Someone who would make me feel wanted,
needed and adored. Someone I don’t need to hide
my pains from. Someone I can be real with, that
will break me and stay to mend my pieces back
whole. Someone who will stay, someone I’ll end
with."

This book reminds me of Rupi Kaur's "Milk and Honey". Lovely collection of poems x illustrations.

With the almost nonexistent technique and simplistic drawings, this collection is very reminiscent of milk and honey. In this case, the collection is even more lacking.

This style of poetry is becoming more and more popular, and I get why, I do, but it’s definitely just not for me.

No. No. No.

This poetry was awful. I'm sorry. I just didn't like it at all. I know it's her personal feelings and thoughts, and they are all valid and understandable, but saying it is art, saying it is poetry, is bull. This is a disgrace to actual poetry. Unfortunately, we can't all be poets. I wish the writer the best of luck in either getting better or trying their hand at a different type of writing.

On the bright side, I thought it was pretty interesting that the writer didn't title her poems. HOWEVER, I would never do that because if it is YOUR poem, and it is, then it doesn't matter what someone else thinks or feels about it. It matters what you think or feel. After that, it is up to the reader to relate in their own way. The author/reader relationship is not so intimate that we both work on their writing of the book itself now.

Overall, this was kind of a mess. I don't like to be negative, but I don't want to hide my feelings about anything. If a book wasn't good, then it wasn't and I'm sorry but this is just my opinion. Someone else might love it. Take this with a grain of salt and form your own thoughts. I encourage the author to never give up, because writing is a beautiful thing. But the author should also know poetry is a delicate, beautiful form of art and shouldn't be taken so lightly. Spend more than 45 seconds on your poetry and watch the poetry explode. I promise you will get better with effort.

I hope this review wasn't incredibly rude or mean. Just my opinion.

Relatable themes of love

I could identify with how tired the author is of dating and loving without that love being returned, that's a universal feeling that people can relate to everywhere. Unfortunately for me, the poetry just wasn't very polished - I wanted less cliques about love and more about the writer's experiences specifically, the little details that make witing unique.
The blank lines on titles was a nice idea but looked slightly odd on the page!

I noticed that this book was currently in the running for the Goodreads Choice Awards of 2017. While this book was a fast read at a fair price, I couldn't help but be a little disappointed at the lack of uniqueness it offered. This book was definitely worth reading, but I'm not sure if it will be a strong contender amongst others like the popular Rupi Kaur.

This offered nothing new to me. Nothing I haven't read before, the theme (broken and heart ache) is nothing new as well. But if you are feeling a little broken and needs a fix up and haven't read a lot of tumblr-ish poetry, then go for this, it's still worth a shot.

In my honest opinion, this collection was a bit of an eyeroll. There was no real growth in either form or emotion throughout the collection, and while it was ostensibly about heartbreak, I felt no feelings reading this. Unfortunately, I would not recommend.

As much as I think this could be great for someone dealing with heartbreak, I could not relate. It was very repetitive and depressing. I didn't finish it.

I heard so many good things about this book, so many people promoting it on social media so when I saw it on amazon kindle in sale I immediately bought it and started to read.. and I was immediately disappointed.

This book seems like it was written by a 12 year old having her first broken heart and is feeling like the whole world is against her.. This is probably a very unpopular opinion but I really can’t wrap my head around the fact that this book gets so many high ratings..

I know this was personal feelings and thoughts but this isn’t poetry, this doesn’t deserve to be next to great poetry books.. Unfortunately we can’t all be poets nor can we all be writers.

To be completely honest I did finish the book as I was hoping it would get better at some point but it didn’t.. So I cancelled my order and asked my money back.

I've read a lot of poetry recently.
While I do like a few ideas implemented here and there, and I do find some poems really, truly beautiful, deep and meaningful, I feel like our generation of poets is yet to deliver. Yes, it seems they dig deep for their feelings and emotions, but then they just vomit their words on a piece of paper and call it poetry.
I feel they are content with being called poets because they have poetic souls and intricate thoughts. But I can't help but think that a poet is more than that. There must be a technique, a defining style, that will make them stand out from one another.
I am not solely talking about Broken Wishbones and Empty Spaces by Pyrokardia.
I am talking about many of the recent collections of poems I've read this year. I could not tell you who wrote which exactly, even though I found some really good poems, either for the ideas behind them or their prose.
Nobody should be settling for "close/good enough". They shouldn't let the pride of signing a book deal get in the way of their creativity and work. I'm not saying they do not deserve it. I'm saying they settle fast, and they shouldn't.
Be original, in a world where original is not original anymore... weird advice, I know, but that's my opinion... I'm still craving for something that'll surprise me. I hope I'm not too harsh, but I'm thirsty for more.
Anyways, this collection is still a good read and, again, I did found a few poems that really talked to me. He obviously is in touch with his emotions and feels deeply. He offers his heart on a platter alongside pieces of wisdom, I just don't know if that's enough to be called poetry...
