This book is 100% written by AI. I cannot find anything about the author, the writing is choppy and at times contradictory, it repeats the same information in different sentences, it has multiple uses of words AI is known to use. The formatting is poor and there are no citations what so ever. Even on the slim chance it is not AI, I cannot find anything about Melanie Barnett or her qualifications to write on this subject.

A Rollercoaster of Feels

This book took me on a journey. One minute, I'm nodding along, the next, I'm questioning my entire approach to relationships. It's a rollercoaster of emotions, but the best kind.

Like another person said. I’m also convinced this book is AI. Granted, I’m no expert, but I do have my minor in psychology. Half of this is regurgitated snippets of google searches, vague statements with no citations, and I cannot find anything about the author or her credentials to be writing this. Any psychology piece worth its shit should have a chapters length citation at the end, and there’s Jack all. I’m sure this work book could be helpful if you know absolutely nothing about attachment theory. But if you have any knowledge at all, this is just 300 pages of talking in circles.

I won't lie, there's this section about parenting styles and how they shape us - it got me emotional. Reminded me of my own upbringing. It's tough reading, but in a good way – like shining a light on hidden truths.

I Never Knew Until Now

Until I read this book, I didn't know I was an avoidant personality. I have known that I liked solitude over a crowd since Covid. I also push people away if they get too close and have a major fear of abandonment. This book opened my eyes, and I acknowledge the truth. The 2nd half of the book is a road map for healing. I especially like the chapter for relationship healing and the chapter for the partner. It's there to help them understand us, the avoidants.

I HIGHLY recommend exploring attachment styles for anyone who wants clarity about their dating patterns or more depth in their relationships. So much of this book’s content felt relevant, insightful, and validating.

However, this book did feel AI-written (I didn’t even mind, because I was making so many profound realizations), but I would probably recommend seeking out a different author for that reason.

Why are we always surprised when two humans fail to connect after living separate lives for decades growing up separately? Attachment suggests a much deeper connection, which invariably must subservience to the other partner. Remember the saying: two captains cannot lead a ship or something like that. I accept that all the great suggestions in the book will work, but only to an extent until the human dynamics rear its head. So, don’t even get me started.

A richly rewarding and insightful exploration of the psyches of those who have, for one traumatic childhood reason or another, protected themselves from others and the world by withdrawing inside a shell, or hiding out from feelings, and so on. Truly worth the reading (and the work) if you've ever found yourself turning away, being defensive, wanting to crawl into a hole and hide, or feeling overwhelmed by the psyches of those around you. Insights on every page.

Profound Insights into Avoidant Attachment

This book is profound. A coworker recommended it, and I thought I'd quickly get through it, but no. It dives deep into aspects of avoidant attachment you thought you had moved past. It's about self-discovery and handling situations with a newfound awareness. It's a guide to both the progress you've made and what still needs work.
