I don't normally mark webcomics on goodreads unless I actually read them in published volumes, but since this one's completed and I actually finished it, I thought I'd use the space to make some notes.

I did really enjoy the trope of the main character being reborn as a baby in this world and growing up (again) there -- it was my first time giving the trope a chance because I always thought it sounded too weird, and I've discovered that I actually find it fun and hilarious. Anissa's relationships with the Lagrange kids because she's older than she seems and has the maturity to see that they need protection is very sweet during the "growing up" section of the story. And they remain really sweet until the end, the final scene is just heart melting fluff, but I wish the effects of Anissa actually having more life experience than them were felt more. In a way it feels like Anissa actually gets younger over the course of the series, which is an interesting dynamic in itself I suppose.

The growing up stage of the story was probably my favorite. Once the story moves beyond it, the plot loses itself a little. The war is both very important and happens entirely off screen, but also maybe it's never a war and just a string of battles, but what the battles actually about? The two duchies are constantly fighting each other but they're also both a part of the same empire, which just sits back and lets them go at it because... why not? It's unclear what either side is actually trying to win in this fight or where the empire stands in it, it's just an off-page thing for major characters besides Anissa to disappear off to when the narrative needs them gone and return from whenever is convenient. I both applaud the complexity of the political worldbuilding and think it maybe should have been... less. There's this whole shadowy organization a supporting character belongs to that is mentioned about twice and then never again? And the fact that Deitrich's mom was part of it was actually a cool twist, but there was just no space to really get into it! It's just an excuse for Damon to have information Anissa needs, and for some reason he always gives it to her, even though it's really unclear why their goals align.

The demons are very fun, love Ba'al and the little demon kid and the twist involving gods & demons at the end. But that one demon who just looks like a hot guy instead of a shadow... no, sorry, can't accept it. He was just an excuse to have a hot demon character who could instigate plot things, none of which worked well. The memory loss section was so strange. I assumed it would be used to move along the romance by providing a way for Anissa to see Dietrich as someone who was never her brother, but it didn't last long enough to really make a difference in the dynamic of their relationship. It's not that I wanted it to last super long, because having a character forget a whole story you invested time reading can be so frustrating, but this waffling middle ground was the worst compromise. Do it for real or don't do it at all. Especially when it's going to cause this whole headache about who remembers the real timeline or not... and it's especially weird when Anissa still remembers she was isekai'd into this world, but that's barely addressed! It's just such a weird plot structure.

A handful of other random things: love Charlotte's character, she's infuriating and that's great. Love Veronica, the coolest lesbian older sister in any story ever, probably. Dietrich is fun but overpowered as hell (and so is Anissa's random power level up at the end); I wish there was better explanation of what his own powers are and what comes from demon contracts. And finally... I don't think I'm convinced on the romance. They still read more as siblings most of the time to me. It's not a total failure, but not a win.

Overall, a fun webcomic that definitely excels more at 1:1 character relationships than big sweeping plot things, but hey, some of its plot things still worked well.

I really want to write meaningful stuff at all my reviews but all i can say is bad, cute, meh, amazing, heartwarming, i really lack emotion so handle me lmao, last chapter really got me so stressed for no reason and it was harder to watch than that annoying Charlotte, i really can't stand romance, i need it to be soo pure overwise i start having trouble breathing so I'm glad i handled this well even though it will get me depressed for the rest of February realizing how lonely I'm, what a great last book of January 😭😭
last review and book of January i guess?
