Told You So

Rate this book
From the best-selling author of the rom-com hit The Rebound comes a sparkling summer listen to sweep you off your feet.

Lucie Redway knows one thing for certain: her best friend will have the most perfect destination wedding. She may not know if she’ll still have her agony aunt column next month, or if her love life will ever be more exciting than a midnight swipe right, but Lucie would rather exhaust herself than let Stacey down on her Big Day. Not even Charlie, the insufferably attractive and hateful best man, can get in her way.

Before the flight touches down in Spain, Lucie is hit with a curveball. Sat next to world-famous psychic Miranda Bloom, she’s told she’ll leave the wedding with the love of her life. Lucie’s not sure she believes in fate, but Miranda seems to know every little detail about her. Is The One really somewhere on the seating chart?

If Miranda is right then that narrows down Lucie’s options (ruling out new bachelor Grandad Bob for obvious reasons) to Drew and Ethan. Drew: the one that got away, the bad boy turned international fashion photographer. Ethan: the dependable childhood best friend, now a Saville Row tailor, who says he has something important to tell her… But there’s no way it’s her worst enemy Charlie, of course. Even if their friction is turning into a confusing kind of chemistry.

As Lucie deals with drunken aunties, finds a missing wedding dress and survives the chaotic hen party, the days are counting down to ‘I do’. Will she recognise The One before time runs out?

Leeanne strikes again! This was SUCH a fun wedding romcom that read exactly like a comfort movie would. It’s filled with cheeky banter, lots of heart and features a gorgeous setting (a destination wedding sounds even more appealing to me now).

This was a fun audiobook to listen to and I eagerly await to read whatever Leeanne comes up with next!

I was having a conversation recently about how they don’t make romcoms like they used to. Like the 90s/early 2000s gold standard romcoms. Well, well, well…

I swear, if they don’t make a movie of this masterpiece I’ll riot.

When I tell you it has EVERYTHING, everything you could ever want from a romcom.

I don’t want to give spoilers but the MMC is tier 1, ahem, “Not until I say so” 😳

Genuinely laugh out loud moments, couldnt-hold-it-in-on-the-commute kind of laughter. I cried a good few times too; the two MCs are going through separate grief journeys (parental, TW for that!).

I really love how Leeanne’s books (I listened to her first one too), have such deeply woven plots. The threads always weave together so nicely at the end. You are left with SUCH a satisfied feeling. Almost like watching a really great romcom 😏

I had a great time with this one and so did everyone on the train who had to listen to me gasp and swear at the motel scene…

The trains were broken today, and having this to listen to saved my sanity getting home. Leeanne, you did me a solid, babe.

THE PREMISE: a self-help guru sits next to a psychic on a plane and is told she’ll meet the love of her life at her best friend’s wedding. The only question: is it her childhood friend, former flame, or nemesis?

TROPES & VIBES:
- Holiday wedding setting in Spain
- Grief and healing
- Reads like a 90s romcom
- Really fun premise
- When your favourite colour is the exact shade as his eyes

Unfortunately I didn’t vibe with this one. The story was kind of predictable, the FMC was extremely unlikeable - doing stupid things, saying stupid things, forcing things that just shouldn’t happen, whining that she was “losing her friend” when her friend is only getting married…

The narrator was really irritating as well, just added to the FMCs whining attitude 🤣

Well lads. Optimism paid off, I really liked this one. The narration was great. The story was well plotted, if a bit predictable, not entirely, just a bit, but who really gives a damn when it’s good!

Colour me surprised !!

it was really hard to finish this book. it’s not bad, but i just don’t like how some people want something so bad they start making/doing the most when literally everyone around them has told the person it’s bad for them. i just couldn’t relate to the main character, but if you enjoy 90s romcoms, you’d probably enjoy this book too

I swear, if someone ever told me you’ll be ending this weekend with the love of your life, everything would play out exactly like this! I would over think everything and over look everything that is just so in your face clear!
It was a good fun read for sure

2.5 - there were moments when I was really enjoying this book but I think it really started falling apart about half way in. I didn’t like Lucy at all, her decision making process was just so odd. And she kept being described as the person who always takes care of everyone else but I didn’t see that at all. Altogether, I just felt like this book was kind of a mess and made me annoyed. I enjoyed this author’s other book so was hoping to like this as well, but probably wouldn’t recommend this one.

Not my favorite but okay. I listened on audible, felt like it was hard to follow at times. I am in a reading slump right now, so that could be playing a factor here. I did think the ending was cute and tied it all together.

This audiobook was an overall fun listen and this was my first audiobook narrated by Bel Powley and I enjoyed how she brought this story to life!

It was a fun romantic comedy with plenty of cheesy moments and cute fairytale style moments of “fate”.

I think the story was fast paced, the characters were likable. The overall plot was enjoyable. I think it was pretty easy to see who would be endgame since one of the love interests didn’t really get any romantic development and between the other two, one got the most attention. Did I mind the endgame choice in the end? Not at all, I was rooting for him the whole time! 🫶🏻

I enjoyed that this story wasn’t focused on just the romance. This was a story about grieving, healing and growing. It was focused on the FMC Lucie’s growth and realizing she is a priority when she has lived life putting others before herself. About allowing yourself to break and hurt before putting yourself back together and continue on living life as best as you can. To allow yourself to once again be happy. To believe that a happily ever after is out there for you.

I loved how Leeanne was able to bring the whole story together and give us an ending we had a feeling was coming and yet was still a heartwarming surprise nevertheless. 🧡

Bore.
I really liked her first book, fun flirty and low stakes. I'm annoyed that I finished this. Both main characters were meh, she was awful and I actually felt sorry for the men in this one (what)
She and her little bestie were like 2 teenage girls. A struggle to the finish line.
Also the whole psychic thing, yeesh this was stupid.

Story 4 stars. Narration 4 stars
Lucie is single and lives in England. She lost her parents when she was a teenager and still lives in the family home. She’s still grieving. Her best friend’s wedding is the backdrop for most of the book. She’s the last of all her friends to still be single. She’s told by a psychic that she will end up with the love of her life by the end of the 6 day wedding event. There’s at least 3 men at the wedding that could be the one. And I am going to stop here as far as the plot goes.

I really liked Lucie, even when she does just the opposite of what you want her to do. She’s beautiful and an extreme people pleaser and she always puts herself last. I liked 2 out of 3 of the men involved. There’s also her best friend that keeps things in an uproar as so many wedding things go wrong. I liked her too, when she wasn’t hysterical. This ended up being a good romance and I definitely would read this author again. The narration was good and the narrator was British. Recommended to adult romance readers. There’s some spice but nothing major.

I was actually wincing at some of the cruel things she said to the MMC. I'm all for enemies to lovers but I felt like there wasn't enough playfulness. I loved the premise of there being 3 potential "one true loves" but she doesn't give 2 of them a chance at all. She decides the prophecy has to be about her piece of shit ex-boyfriend and becomes obsessed with getting back together with him to the point she blows off her best friend and continues to be rude to the MMC even after he shows her he has feelings for her. It was hard to root for her.

After listening to Leeanne Slade’s last Audible book, The Rebound, I instantly knew Told You So would be another favorite. The moment it was available for preorder I purchased. This is a listen in 2.0 speed to get through & know what happens next but then regret when you’re finished sort of read!
A story filled with loss, laugh and Iove. Highly recommend! Even for those who aren’t typically fans of Audible selections, give this one a chance, best one yet!

This was definitely cute! And I was invested in who she would end up with (even if it was obvious). The characters are pretty good, and they are both just trying to cope in their own way. The chemistry between the main characters was also good.
What annoyed me a bit was the FMC being heavily portrayed as a people pleaser but not having an ounce of consideration for the guys. It just felt wrong.
I also wasn’t the biggest fan of the narrator.

I think I’m in the minority here, but I really had to fight to finish this.

I loved Leeanne’s previous book “The Rebound”, but unfortunately, I wasn’t keen on this one. I also think the narration wasn’t great either.

This one was hard for me. For whatever reason (honestly I think it was the narrator) I just couldn't get into it. So I skip-listened to about 10 chapters, then listened to the last 10. I actually enjoyed the story though (probably a 4 star) read.

Overall it's a well written book with interesting topics like grieving, loneliness, friendship and adulting.
Too bad the romance didn't really deliver.

Also, stop with the insta-love trope. It's pointless to write a love story if the love itself is baseless. Ugh.

One of the things i had to learn around the same age as this character, was that not everything that is happening from your perspective is "all" that is happening. We may interpret something that happens to us as someone being angry when it's that person thinking of something that is happening in their lives and not focusing on us. We just don't know. I have found that the best thing to do is to be honest, and if you aren't sure about someone's reactions to you, ask them are they okay.

All that being said, I liked this story. It felt a little too long in the middle. If she had just told him that she'd overheard what he said and that had influenced her reactions and feeling towards him over the past year, it would have all been settled earlier.

I do think he overreacted to what she was telling him about the article, but I do realize he'd been going through his own stuff.

New author to me and I may try her other book.

This was an unexpectedly great time. It is marketed as a potential love connection between three different men. The one that got away, the childhood best friend, and the man she can’t stand. I hate love triangles so I went into this with low expectations and really only picked this up because it’s free on audible. And I had the best time! I laughed a ton, felt the whole gambit of emotions and enjoyed the book enough to keep it as a new comfort listen when I need a mood boost.

3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

This is probably closer to 3 stars than 4 but it was free on audible so I bumped it up for that. I loved the twist at the end although I just couldn’t quite see the chemistry between Lucie and Charlie. She literally went from hating him to being in love. I really enjoyed the first half of the book and then it just kind of lost me for second half really. It was obvious Drew was a wanker and I guessed what Ethan’s big reveal was although it all seemed too convenient where that was concerned. All in all it was on. The narrator was ok. Not great but not terrible either.

Lucie is a big part of her best friend’s wedding. On the flights he runs into a famous physics who said that she will be leaving Spain with the love of her life. News that’s she depended and decided to lean into because she also needs to bring more followers to her column or loose her job. With all the wedding and work drama there is hardly time for romance. The only question remains: which man is suppose to be her true love? ;D
Cute and quirky audible.

One of those where it's pretty interesting most of the way but then you questioned if you finished it or not cause you genuinely can't remember any of the ending. Yes, I indeed finished it despite my skepticism. I'm lucky I read audiobooks cause I legit went through my listen history to see if I finished or not. Still can't remember the ending. But I know it was finished 🤔 So I couldn't in good conscious give it more than 3 stars.

I’ve enjoyed the audiobook so much! The narration was energetic, dynamic, and emotional, it had it all. I felt like I was listening to a voice recording from one of my friends, telling me her story. It was so natural!
The story itself was really lovely and witty; it even made me burst out laughing. The main characters were perfect: a classic enemies-to-lovers dynamic with an emotional rollercoaster of a plot twist. The book kept me hooked until the very end.

4.5 - Leanne Slade is SO underrated. Her work is so deep but has everything you want in a rom-com. The .5 off is because a lot of the twists were quite predictable but still a very enjoyable read
