The title of this book was enough to send me sprinting over to Amazon with click finger poised and ready for action! NLP Techniques describe 'conversational hypnosis' and how to influence any conversation using hypnotic language patterns and your persuasion skills. A sweeter past-time has yet to be invented! I thought 'I will never have to wash up or hoover again'.

Of course, there is much more to this book than that. I have learnt that the position or exchange of a word in a sentence can influence the direction that conversation is going; 'and' and 'but' have taken on a whole new meaning for me. The Author explains the power of agreeing with part of a sentence and subtly inserting a different point of view, while still keeping the rapport achieved when agreeing with someone. Not an easy task normally, and it requires a certain amount of practice, but can then become second nature. There are three key ideas which then perform a pattern to be used when you wish to change a persons persuasion or viewpoint, but I'll say no more so as not to give away the farm.

I will add though that the Author makes it clear that he doesn't condone the misuse of any of his techniques, and also the fact that if someone feels strongly, or doesn't want to do something, then he probably won't be persuaded (guess I will be doing the washing up).

The examples of hypnotic persuasion he provides are easy to understand and the advantages of using his technique cannot be denied. One other point I'd like to mention is that this is not a Derren Brown type programme; you won't be able to get your boss to bark like a dog or sing a soprano in his boxers! This is a practical, easy and effective tool to be used in a sensible way to make your life that little bit easier.

Altogether, this is a fascinating and informative read, and a keen insight into the human psyche and how we think. Read and apply; the possibilities are endless!
