Writing Habit Mastery - How to Write 2,000 Words a Day and Forever Cure Writer’s Block

Rate this book
LEARN: How to Forever Eliminate Writer's Block and Write Thousands of Words a Day

Do you struggle to write every day? Many people dream of becoming a successful author, but can't find the time to write. The truth is this: Great writers don't have more time than you do. They make time to write. Not only do they make time, they also follow specific routines that help them avoid writer's block altogether.

By developing the "writing habit" you'll have the confidence to sit down in front of a computer every day, knowing the words will come.

YOUR GOAL: Write 2,000 Words a Day -- Every Day!

One of the key factors to effectively developing ANY habit is choosing a specific, measurable goal. So if you want to become a prolific writer, then you'll need to choose a specific word count for each day. While I suggest 2,000 words as a goal, you can pick any number that fits in with your busy schedule. You might choose 500 or 1,000 words a day. Or, you might have more time than I do (or write faster than I do) and choose to write 3,000 or 10,000 words each day. The important thing is to establish a daily word count goal and then stick to it.

In "Writing Habit Mastery" you'll learn how to incorporate writing into your daily routine. What you'll get is a strategy and list of tools that will help you develop a sustainable writing habit and demolish writer's block.

"Writing Habit Mastery" contains a step-by-step blueprint of habits and routines you can use to develop this routine.

Inside this guide you'll learn how to:
Establish the PERFECT writing routine and environment
Find the time to write--even if you have a full-time job
Minimize distractions and interruptions
Crank out PUBLISHED works on a consistent basis
Create an energized state where you're ready to write
Make money from your completed books or screenplays <
Follow a simple seven-step process that prevents writer's block

You can write thousands of words every day. All you need is a strategy to develop this habit.

Wall Street Journal bestselling author SJ Scott wanted to be Luke Skywalker when he grew up.

Unfortunately his complete lack of physical grace and introverted mannerism's kept the earth from having their own Jedi Knight to battle the Sith menace.

Steve “SJ” Scott was born and raised in New Jersey. After finishing college with a degree in psychology he knew he needed to further his education or work on his latte making skills.

During a short stint in US Air Force, Scott was able to get his Master’s in business and then moved on to conquer the business world.

Scott then spent a couple of years working for a company not unlike the company depicted in Mike Judge’s film, “Office Space”. After doing his share of “TPS” reports, Scott swore he would never work for anyone but himself.

He spent the next few years making this happen. Making a decent living online and eventually pivoting to writing books, blogging and even podcasting.

Scott has written over 30 books, most of them in the "self-improvement" genre. An area that he is personally passionate about.

His books have been published in 12 different languages. So he is well on his way to world domination. However, in his heart of hearts he knows he will soon have to venture out into the universe and defeat the Sith menace.

Just read Stephen King's On Writing instead. The advice is the same, and King is endlessly more inspiring than this glorified list of bullet points.

To be fair, many people can probably find some security in Scott's Writing Habit Mastery. The clear, clean language convinces the reader that truly, everyone can write a book, as long as you follow the instructions laid out in front of us. Write those words, get that amount of words down on paper, this book quietly chants. It doesn't matter if it's crap, just write write write write...

And yes, to a certain extent Scott is right. One of the things that holds aspiring writers back is the perceived lack of time, and the overwhelming size of a project. Taking it chunks at a time really helps with motivation.

However, I think writing is more than what this book paints it as. It is more than having a nice outline and just hammering out those arbitrary 2,000 words every single day. If we all follow Scott's advice (assuming that we can), we would all have something. But that doesn't make good writing.

I'm not one of those people who thinks talent is inherent. As Stephen King writes, writing is most definitely a craft, and in order to become proficient one has to exercise. To try and try and improve until it becomes the best we can make it. There is no learning in Writing Habit Mastery - it barely even acknowledges that 2,000 words can be pretty fucking daunting for beginning writers. As much as every person is different, every writing style is different, and I feel like some people's creativity would be squashed with a stick if shoehorned into Scott's method. I assume the book is not meant as a one-size-fits-all solution, but it leaves very little leeway to adapt these techniques if you work differently.

What I look for in books on writing is inspiration to write, and interesting research. The facts in Writing Habit Mastery were ones I was already familiar with, and it fell flat on the inspiration front. Writing can be a source of joy and despair and elation and frustration - but in this case, it mainly seems dull.

Krótki i konkretny zbiór porad dotyczących pisania, organizacji pracy i radzenia sobie z blokadą twórczą i prokrastynacją.

O grande problema do livro é a tradução e a edição.

Great basics for starting a writing journey!

I got a lot of great tips on making writing a habit, not just something I do from time to time. I like the process steps and will adapt them to my blogging goals.

Its contents barely break 100 pages, and these pages are written in large print, with a great deal of white space marking section breaks.

But don't discount WHM because of its brief, simple message. Its simplicity may be its greatest strength. Building a writing habit is the most critical lesson in becoming a writer. You can read thousands of books in your intended genre; you can read thousands of books on how to write. You can conduct interviews with other writers, or go to expensive graduate schools to get a fancy writing degree. None of it means anything unless you are able to treat writing like a job and form a daily habit of going to the computer and generating material.

This book shows you how to develop a daily writing practice. It addresses many common barriers and presents encouraging, workable solutions.

Try it.

It works.

Even after writing ten books I’m still interested in ways to improve my productivity, so was attracted to this book by its title. There are, of course, some familiar ideas here – but also a few I’d not come across before, including one which worked for me right away.

As we approach National Novel Writing Month there are plenty of writers out there who don’t need reminding that two thousand words a day is where you need to be to have any chance of hitting the magical fifty thousand in November.

I like S. J. Scott’s writing style – and there are plenty of links to explore for further information. I’m happy to recommend this book to any writers. I’m sure I’m not alone by getting so diverted by my research I almost forget what I was looking for in the first place!

This book is meant to be practical, offering no-nonsense advice. On the surface, it succeeds. And yet, there was nothing new or overly interesting here. The advice revolves around making time to write, committing to writing, and sticking with it. It’s all very basic stuff, and if this advice were easy to follow, we’d all be bestselling authors. It seemed aimed at beginning writers, and despite offering a bunch of platitudes along the lines of “just sit your ass in the chair and write,” it didn’t actually offer any concrete tips about HOW to do just that. Overall, disappointing.

25 minutes of reading, this is my conclusion: It's not the best book on writing, it's not even a book, it is a collection of blog posts full of bullets points and not so new tips and advice. I already practice nearly 95% of the tips in this guide, but I can't write 2000 words a day (At least for now), nor I can cure the writer's block when it happens to me. For outlining I recommend "Plot Perfect", it's a detailed guide about outlines and structure.

I wasn't really expecting much from this book but it turned out to be quite good. It was straightforward and didn't waffle, which is definitely a good feature in a self-help book.

Everything in this book is common sense so it's not really original in any way - but it is a nice kick-in-the-rear type reminder that some of us writers need every now and then.

A very short, but helpful book on how to build a daily writing habit rather than 2000 words a day. In this respect, the title is quite misleading. But some of the advice is sound and practical, and I'm considering using some of the strategies in this book. Recommended for the novice or beginning writer that wants to get serious.

Livro excelente!

2) Dejar fluir nuestra historia.

I can’t believe I fell for it again. Another writing book from an never heard of author.

I don’t get how anyone can toss down 25,000 words and call it a book. Don’t get me wrong, I know how hard it is to put words on a page, that is one of the reasons I read this book after all, but readers fell robbed when they are expecting a book and they get a magazine. To put this into perspective, the New Yorker magazine is about the same size as this “book.”

The length aside, the content was not anything special. Much of this we have seen before in blogs and snippets from many other books. The advice was also devoid of examples and anecdotes. I feel that most authors have more reminders in their bullet journals than are in this.... book

The only reason I am giving this 2 stars is because none of the advice is bad and someone might find it useful... in the 30 minutes it takes then to read it.

I read this book wholly chapter to chapter, absorbing its guidelines and suggestion wholly. I enjoyed the author's recommendations much more than the story outline and plot summary ideas and got to mull on my own writings through a great number of manuscripts in storage waiting for me to complete one at a time or two at my computers (PC and laptop) around in my current apartment residence by way of constant drafting revision!! I hope the author does a sequel to the book someday to continue his tutorials!

Short and sweet. Get’s right to the point and doesn’t try to pad out a page count with fluff and redundancy.

It doesn’t go into story, characters, plot, etc. There are PLENTY of books on the market covering those. This instead focused on a very simple premise: write regularly. It then gives some helpful tips on doing so.

This is what I was looking for to help me get out of my rut of writing irregularly or not at all.

Now to find the energy and time to try it out!

Somewhat short but packed with information

I don’t know how much this will help in developing and keeping my new (hopefully) stable writing habit but I’m happy with the amount of information contained in this book. I think it will help a lot. It’s well organized, short and sweet and straight to the point. It makes it easier for reading it again. Worth buying.

A simple and straightforward “how to” on writing habits and processes, this short ebook doesn’t really deliver on its promise, especially from a fiction point of view (this ebook is tailored for writing non-fiction, especially in simple detail-light non-academic subject matters such as “how to” guides). Getting comfy and using an outline don’t work miracles in themselves. I know. I’ve tried.

Because I've read about 50 books on writing, this book didn't teach me much, however the original ideas I did get were profound and practical. This is a good book for beginners and advanced writers alike. This is gonna be a game changer for my writing - and I have many books in me. Thank you S.J. Scott!

Pretty much spouting the same advice as everyone else on this topic. Bum in chair every day until it becomes the right shape. It's not incorrect, it just doesn't add anything to the conversation. Read if you need a reminder.
