Takes Grief And Sorrow To A Whole New Level

Can't Let Go is now on my top 5 list for most depressing books EVER. I'm keeping this short because, honestly, there's no way to write a thorough review without giving away some fairly massive spoilers. I will say that pretty much right from the beginning the overwhelming sadness sucked me in and didn't let go. It's a well written story, just morose as hell. There wasn’t a true moment of levity without anything tragic hanging around until about the 95% mark.

I’m a sucker for second chance relationship stories but this one was depressing on top of gloomy with seemingly no light at the end of the tunnel. I’d recommend being in the right frame of mind before starting this.

I've been hooked since page 1 and didn't put the book down until I finished it!

I really, really liked the story plot : 2 former lovers, who haven't seen each other for 6 years, are reunited under tragic circumstances and realize that the spark between them is far from extinguished. It's a rather classic plot, yet very powerful _ I was in tears more often than not...

The writing is probably the reason for my tears. It is so good it just grips you, makes you feel the characters' grief almost as if you were the one grieving, makes you hurt when difficult choices must be made.

I also liked the characters, though I was a bit frustrated with them at times.
Abby is miserable, at work and in her relationship with her fiancé Eric, and kind of prefers it that way. Her break up with Logan six years before definitely broke something inside her, letting her believe that safety and predictibility in life were better than the risk of having your hopes crushed. She goes through the motions thanks to her best friend Hayley, but when Hayley and her husband die, her world crashes down once again. Confronted to the choice of resuming a relationship with Logan, she once chooses the numbness of her life in L.A. and her oncoming wedding. I can understand her reasons, but I'm a firm believer in self-determination, thinking that you lose the right to complain about being miserable if you do nothing to change the situation to happier one, so it was a bit hard for me to totally relate to a character who purposedly chooses misery because fear is holding her back.
Logan is also miserable, his decision, six years prior, to leave Abby weighting heavily in his life. He firmly thinks he did the right thing by leaving Abby so she doesn't have to chose between her relationship with him and her father's approval. Yet, all his choices in life are made with a future with Abby in mind, Logan wanting to become a man worthy of her. But his own fear also holds him back from actually pursuing her. When they meet again and he realizes she isn't happy in her life, he makes a move, telling her he still loves her. When she rejects him, he mopes around a few months and then fights for her once again by trying to convince her not to go through her marriage, the day of the wedding. I both admired and disliked Logan's character, or rather his actions. I admired him because he does try to win her back, not for purely selfish reasons but once he realizes she is unhappy without him. I disliked 2 elements though. First, what started it all, him abandonning her, for her own sake, despite how many times she tells him she wants to be with him no matter her father's opinion. I really don't like when characters do not respect their significant others' choices for a reason as patronizing and condescending as knowing what is best for them. I think it's a disrespect of your love one's intelligence and, truth be told, it is often more revealing of a character's own insecurities rather than really being the best available option.
The second element I didn't like so much is that, despite the six years of misery he's been through, Logan keeps seeking Abby's father approval till the very end of the book _ and so does Abby, by the way. I would have prefered to see the characters reunite and THEN get the father's approval rather than what really happens : Logan goes after Abby because her father encourages him to, and Abby renounces to her wedding because her father tells her it's okay to do so.
Speaking purely of the plot, I'm also curious to know what would have been Abby's choice if not for her unexpected pregnancy.

Anyway, I would have given a 3 stars review to the book, considering the frustating elements I've mentionned, if it hadn't been so well written. I simply cannot give less than a 4 stars review to a book that had me in tears ;)

A sweet treat (also an Amazon freebie) that rolled a second chance at love into a very fun-to-read romance.

That was a very unsatisfying read.

Logan was a good character, had potential. But the author didn't develop him much.

Abby was a whiny b****. I felt sorry for her at first but as the novel went on, she annoyed me to no ends. And the deed she did at the end was so unfair to Eric. You'll know what I mean if you read it. She was a HORRIBLE character. Enough said.

The sad moments felt exaggerated (or maybe that was just me being biased againt Abby). Not to mention the author did NOT go into depth of why Logan and Abby couldn't be together. Seriously their reasoning was just "we can't be together". Bad, uncreative writing. Not recommended to anyone unless you love reaching idiotic sh**te.

Wow! I think I cried for most of this book! I can't begin to describe the range of emotions his book evoked for me. I wasn't just terry eyed, I was ugly crying to the point I had to take minutes to compose myself in order to keep reading. Abby and Logan's story was one of the most heartbreaking ones I've read since reading in a long time. I highly recommend this book with a warning that you have to have the time to really cry! I really think that we should get a second book with less tears necessary!

I had just finished a sweet fluff romance when I stumbled on this in my library and boy did my mood hit a 180. Depressing to the max and with a heroine who wallows in her unhappiness and wears misery like a sweater. Both the h and H catered to the h's father like he was king. This was just not to my liking.

Loved it! This was real and emotional and you felt what Logan and Gabby were going through. They were a family and the loss of Hayley and Blake was just devastating. And how do you get over your true love your soulmate. That was the question throughout the book and how to move on with someone that didn't feel or make you complete. Great Story

So far not to happy... I should have read the synopsis.... I hate the fact her friends die... Chapter 3

So, I was able to finish this morning. I liked the book, the loss of the best friends still was a damper but I liked the end. Logan is a sweet man but was kind of dumb when he was young. Abby, is thick headed and stubborn. I think besides Hayley and Blake my favorite character is Marry.

The first book I've read by Michelle Brewer

This was a short, easy read filled with much sadness and regrets, but I really liked it. A bit predictable a times but nice to read a story every once in a while that's not 50% filled with descriptive sex scenes. A perfect book for someone looking for a nice HEA romance story.

While it was a good novel, because of the sadness and confusion in it, it didn't seem like a completely fulfilling novel. I felt as if, the happy ending didn't balance out with the pain in the rest of the novel.

2nd chance romance with losing friends and throws you back together. Keep the Kleenex box handy too. Good read but some parts I had a hard time following. It was a. Very quick read and at the end I thought some of it was rushed but still good.

Loved this book! It ripped my heart out and pieced it back together. It really captured the pain of losing someone close to you and how to deal with it. They were meant for each other, it had just taken them longer to realize it.

I read this in one setting. Excellent writing and a beautiful story about love found, then lost, then found again. I felt so attached to these characters and it was so heartbreaking to read their story. A definite tear jerker. Don't read this without a box of tissues handy.

This was a great book with a great ending. I usually have axiety attacks with books like these with on and off relationships but not this book. It is just a classic true love book that everyone should read.

I liked this more than I expected. It has a well-written prose and characters. I might have hated why Logan left but it's just me. It wasn't swoon-ish but it was a heart-warming romance.

Nice lovely story, good characters and a decent plot as well. Seemed quite short though as it only took me a couple of hours to read. It kind of reminded me of The Do-over.

It had me crying in the beginning, yelling at Abigail when it looked like she would walk away from her chance at true love, and elated at the HEA ending.
