Falling Between the Pages

Rate this book
All’s fair in love and fiction.

If Wendy Sutton has an antagonist in real life, it’s Peyton Gentry. Being forced to co-write a serial novel with her nemesis spells disaster. Working with the far-too-attractive and way-too-confident Peyton is guaranteed to push Wendy over the edge. But this assignment is the only way to prove herself and provide for Nana.

Peyton has had his eye on Wendy for years. After ruining their first date, he’s finally been given a second chance … but only if she’ll read between the lines of the romance he’s been writing just for her.

It’ll take forgiveness and faith if these two writers are ever to find themselves on the same page in matters of life and happily-ever-afters.

Will Wendy and Peyton end up writing their own love story? Find out in this can’t-miss rom-com!

This was such a fun story! I finished reading it a couple of weeks ago now, and I’m still finding myself thinking over some of the different things I was challenged about as I read this book.

This book lives up to the name of a rom-com. I don’t know that I’ve ever read a book in this particular genre before, but I certainly hope it won’t be the last, because this was pure fun. I found myself laughing out loud multiple times, which is always delightful to encounter in a book! It wasn’t always overt humor—sometimes, it was just a unique turn-of-phrase, but overall, that part of the book was very strong. The romance was also entertaining and very sweet.

On the topic of humor, one of my favorite quotes was from Grover, talking about a breakfast dish one of the characters cooked: “A bit runny, a bit cooked, and a lot of burnt. Well, I guess you covered everyone’s taste buds this morning.” (Oh, how I can relate!)

As much as I loved the historical portion of this book (which was…unique, memorable, and often delightful!), I think the part I loved the most was the depth the story contained. I wasn’t expecting that, and I think it made it all the more enjoyable. One of the characters struggles with trust issues, and as someone who likes to control a lot of what’s happening around me, I found myself reflected in their choices more frequently than I’d like to admit. The way they were encouraged to look to the Lord and trust Him was a great reminder to me, and now, two weeks on, I’m still thinking about some of the lessons this book contained. It was never preachy; it was never pushy, but the truth was in there all the same, and I really appreciated that.

Overall, this was a fun, lighthearted, easy read, and I can’t wait to see what else A.M. Heath comes out with next. Highly recommended!

I was given a complimentary copy of this book, and this is my honest opinion of it.

This was my first read by this author and I adored it! It was almost like getting two books in one, since you get to read the story the main characters write together. It's a slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers romance with a HEA that's worth waiting for. I loved the time travel element (in the story within the story) and rich historical details. The banter was also fun and witty. What a great read.

Oh my gosh, I absolutely loved Falling Between the Pages by A.M. Heath and was so glad to be on the launch team for this book. This was my first book by this author and I most definitely need to get my hands on more of her books. What an interesting concept for a story. It’s a romance, in two different times, so dual-timeline, but the historical time is the story that Wendy and Peyton are writing together, not willingly, but as part of their job. I say “not willingly” because they are nemeses. They really are not fond of each other. Peyton really gets on Wendy’s nerves with his little habits. They also have a bit of a history that makes them dislike each other. And because one is a “pantster” and one is a “plotter” they can’t see how they will be able to work together on a story. A story where they alternate chapters and can not plan it together. Each of them reads the other’s chapter when it is published, just like the general public.

Tara and William are the main characters in the story that Wendy and Peyton are writing and they end up time traveling to pioneer times (so we have a time travel story, which I always love). They are thrust into a life they know hardly anything about. A time when single women travel west to become brides for lonely men on the wild frontier. These characters sort of reflect their authors’ relationship. So, what will become of these out-of-time people who really need each other, but can’t really stand each other?

I loved following both the story and the story within the story. There were times I really felt it was Wendy and Peyton writing the historical story, not the author of the book. A.M. Heath really brought these characters to life. I didn’t want to put the book down as I had to know what was going to happen next. I laughed, I teared up (it’s very rare that I actually cry while reading), I felt their struggles. Not only did I love seeing their relationships evolve, I loved seeing their faith in God grow. Spiritual truths are shared throughout the books, which I really appreciated. Here’s a quote that really spoke to me, “It’s wise to look before you leap, but you still have to leap. And the leaping will always be a leap of faith. You can trust that God will catch you, even if no one else will.”

The author did a great job bringing both stories to a believable conclusion. I just wish I didn’t have to leave Tara and William, and Wendy and Peyton. I would have loved to see what happens next in their relationships. Another sign of a book I love. I can’t stop thinking of the characters and want to know MORE.

This is definitely a 5 star book and one I highly recommend.
I received this book for free from the author as a part of the launch team and was not required to write a favorable review. These are my own, honest thoughts.

I think I have a new favorite by A.M. Heath! This is the perfect mix of a modern rom com and historic time travel.

One problem I have with dual timelines is being more interested in one storyline than the other. But I loved both of these stories so much!

I could have easily read this in one sitting, had I the time.

For ultra conservative readers who don’t care for a lot of romance, this may be over the top for you.

The Biblical lessons were solid and good. The characters were flawed and realistic yet also learning and growing.

I definitely recommend!

I had never read a story by A.M Heath before, and am so glad I was able to read this one! This was SUCH a fun story within a story. Add some time travel, co-workers turned co-writers, and you have yourself an interesting situation! Plus, when you see yourself in the main character (hello, misophonia!), it makes it real.

I LOVED this story, and am excited to read more of her books!

This story is so good. I don’t know what I expected but this wasn’t it! And I mean that in the best possible way! I thought this sounded like a great cute story and it is but it’s just amazing. The authors writing just captures your attention right off the bat. I love how the book centers around two authors that have to write a story together against their will. (That’s right Enemies to Lovers). The catch is they can only write one chapter at a time and can’t consult each other. For example, Peyton writes the first chapter completely on his own and then once it’s printed to the readers, Wendy reads it for the first time and then writes the second chapter. I loved watching how they threw each other curveballs and they had to figure out how to keep the story going. For added fun you get to read the story they are writing too and let me tell you the story they write together is awesome! I loved how Wendy learned to trust God even though she still had bad things happen and in trusting God learned to trust others. Peyton is so patient. There was a lot of scripture and talk of God, very strong faith elements which I just loved! I just couldn’t put this book down! I can’t say enough good things about this book! It’s terrific and I highly recommend it!

Oh my goodness, this is the first book I have read by this author and I was blown away‼️. Her twist on time travel was a breath of fresh air. The co-writing element also gave the story a new twist. The author handled it skillfully along with the way she wove Christain principles and Bible verses in. I understood Wendy’s feeling with her grandma suffering from dementia. Peyton’s compassion and big heart touched me. kept telling Tara and Wendy to quit being grumpy and stubborn and realize they actually were falling in love with William and Peyton😀. This was one of those stories where I said they finally did it but then went oh, the book is finished😂😂. I will definitely be reading more by this author!

Much like Wendy and Peyton, I fell in love between the pages of this wonderfully addictive book! Following their romance parallel to their characters brought both laughter and tears and I could not put this story down until I devoured it. A little like Peyton with his Little Debbie snack cakes...

Peyton and Wendy are my new favorite couple! Oh wait…what about William and Tara, the couple in the story Peyton and Wendy are writing? They are amazing, too…

This wonderful new book from A.M. Heath is so unique! It’s an enemies to lovers story with a twist: they are writing a book together, but they can’t see each other’s chapters. And for extra fun, one of them adds a time travel element to their story project!

There was so much heart in this book, plus a good dose of faith and a nice touch of humor, and I absolutely loved it all. I really appreciated the sensitivity shown by the author for Wendy‘s struggles (no spoilers here). And what can I say about Peyton except *swoon*.

This one is staying on my “must read again” list!

Just finished it today. One of my favorite books! I do a lot of reading so that says a lot. It really has everything...laughter, tears, annoyance, tension, romance, faith, time travel. The concept of the book was so creative! Having two authors writing a book together, without knowing what will be coming next. I loved everything about this book and am excited to share it with others. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Reread March 2025…
I highly recommend rereading books. It’s so fun to revisit friends. Loved the faith content, both stories and how they worked together, and the funny moments! There’s a lot of historical culture in this book which is fun and unique for a contemporary story. The nursing home aspect is exceptionally done. Definitely still feel like there was so much kissing it was distracting. However, my personal rating is bumped to a 4 (with the kissing warning), because I really enjoy this one!
Ps: I would love to see these characters again in another story😊

Original review:
3.5⭐️ This was a really unique story and honestly the writing pulled me in immediately! I’ve read time slip novels and books about author’s writing…but I have not ever read one like this: where the main characters are writing a story tag team that somehow corresponds with their own story…while being it’s own story! It was actually fascinating and I loved the journey.

I was actually going to give this one a 4.5-5⭐️ about 1/2 way through because I just loved it so much and the faith content—even to the end—was so good. I appreciated the natural use of scripture…the prayer…the solid and imbedded truth/lesson/reminder on trusting God! That was just beautiful and nearly brought me to tears because I was reminded of how at times I have and still do the same thing as Wendy does (just different areas of my life). We can’t always be in control, BUT we know the One who knows all and truly does have all power.

My only complaint: Close to about the 70-75% mark or so, all of a sudden there was a LOT of kissing. They are not detailed, but because there were so many, it became distracting. The extreme physical focus was a bummer for me and pulled my rating down a bit.

So as a whole I did really love this story and would probably read it again. I loved the characters (both the leads, and the “fictional” fiction characters in their story 😜). The nursing home aspect was so sweet. I also loved all the humor, but still the deep moments were my favorite. The authors writing style is so easy to read and I enjoy that also!

Favorite quote: I never noticed how helpless I was until now. Back home, I could clothe and feed myself. Back home, I could keep myself safe and comfortable. But here …” He paused, staring up into the endless night sky. “I find myself needing You at every second.” Shame washed over him. “But I was always supposed to, wasn't I? I was never to walk around thinking I had everything under control and didn't need You.”

How do I review this book?
I laughed and grinned over the difference between Wendy’s writing style and Peyton’s writing style. I understood Peyton completely when he tried to explain how he wrote. You just do it!
Peyton I liked from the start. He was so real and his care and love for those in the nursing home was so sweet!
Wendy got on my nerves. It wasn’t her irritation over noises, it was her constant “must be in control at all times” that drove me crazy. I wanted to tell her a few hard truths and point out a few lies she was believing. But she did get there in the end.
The story inside the story was rather fun as it showed more of the relationship of Peyton and Wendy only under different names and in different circumstances. I’m not a fan of time travel, but this time it worked. It was interesting thinking about living back in the 1800s when you are used to the twenty-first century. My one complaint about that was
There was a lot of kissing near the end. In both stories. Nothing was detailed but it happened quite a lot.
The lessons about trust and letting God control things was good even if it seemed to take forever for anything to really be laid out in black and white for Wendy or Tara.

Definitely heavier on the romance than I am comfortable with, but it was a unique and interesting story, especially for those of us who like to write. Also had some good reminders to trust the Lord and not be fearful.

Oh my goodness! I don’t think I’ve ever read a book written like this. Kudos to this author for thinking of doing this story the way she did. I thought it was fun and the way the dual timeline was done was absolutely brilliant. I loved the idea of two people taking turns writing a chapter at a time not knowing what the other one was going to write next. Peyton and Wendy’s story was great. Oh there sure had to be some changes in their hearts because they only tolerated each other. They learned so much by writing about their fake couple William and Tara. They had to learn some hard lessons too. It certainly was fun to read each chapter that Peyton and Wendy wrote about William and Tara. The spiritual insights and the inspiration I drew from this story was unique. I think I could just start another book about them right now. It’s hard to leave characters behind when you feel like you are part of them. It also takes a good author to write characters that a reader doesn’t forget. I think I will remember them a long time.

I really did stay up late reading... twice!

There was so much to love. Bickering, fighting, and so much laughter.

It's a rom com, historical romance, and time travel all in one!

How the author could redeem the dude that killed the girl's cat, I'm not sure I can explain. You have got to read this. A real page turner. And I loved that we got to read the story they write together. It's like two books in one, yet they play off each other. Enriching. Deepening the experience.

Two scenes weren't to my taste, the bugs in the bed (the guy was alone and briefly naked. Nothing is described, but it still made me uncomfortable) and the outhouse. Although the latter is actually fine, but because it followed the former, I was tense, worried what I might read.

Those two short scenes aside, I loved this book. So good! Do yourself a favour and read it!

Worth it!

Yes, it is worth it! Writer A M Heath and their editor did a wonderful job with the triple storylines. I was able to follow along easily.

First, there's the here and now writers (Peyton and Wendy) penning a book together, not all that willingly, and with two very different writing styles. Second, the here and now life of the couple they are writing about (Tara and William). Third, the life of Tara and William when they are sent back in time to the Nebraska frontier.

I took a break midway, when the storyline slowed down, but I really didn't need to. As soon as I picked the book up again a few days later, the story started moving quickly again. The slow pace midway made sense. It allowed for some foundational changes in Tara, William, Wendy, and Peyton necessary so the story could then spring forward into the ending. Note there are actually two endings: the Wendy & Peyton ending at their office plus the Tara and William ending at the side of a street.

It is a clean read with Christian themes of trusting God and forgiveness, though it does not seem preachy to me. Faith based advice giving from friends was more common in frontier days. The focus is not on converting readers; it's on how these book people figure out how to use their faith in their day to day life and troubles.

I am a woman of faith, so I appreciated the reminder to not just have faith, but use it. I freely admit I love a book that is both an enjoyable read with depth and lifts me up, inspiring me to be my best self.

Happy reading!

I really enjoyed William and Tara’s story. I struggled to like Wendy (and even Tara). She was just so tightly wound and angry. I appreciated learning why noises bothered her so much but she got on my nerves with her constant irritation with Peyton. Still a well-written book.

This was a sweet romance. It was a time travel adventure. I love that two authors had to write a fictional romance and they used their real life to write it. I am wondering if the reviews that are written about in the storyline are in fact real reviews that the authors has had written about her other works. If so, I am surprised because her other books are just as fantastic as this one. If you like time traveling novels and enemies that turn into more than friends then I recommend this book. This book is also about writers writing a story, which I consider a treat for readers. This is definitely a one of a kind book that I truly loved.

Ok, this was cute. I wasn't the biggest fan in the beginning, but as it progressed, I started to like it more and more.

The boys were absolute hoots! Oh my gosh, and that faith content! Perfect! I loved how steadfast the boys were even when the girls drove me batty at times. The girls were so relatable with their trust issues, though, and I really appreciate that.

My only setback would have been the romance. It was a bit too touchy and kissy for me personally.

Overall, this was a very interesting book. I liked the concept.

Ooookay...I loved this from almost the word go! I fall somewhere between Wendy and Peyton on the writing scale, but I could understand parts of what drove both of them up the wall. ;) I can't imagine being forced to co-write a story without any idea of where it was going! However, for some reason, Peyton was my favorite right out of the gate. Maybe just because I didn't think Wendy was being fair to him? I don't know. But I loved him. <3 And the story within the story was incredibly fun, especially because it revealed so much about its writers. (I admit to having turned back a few times in the middle of a chapter to make sure I knew who was writing it--because it mattered so much!) I'm not a big fan of time-travel stories, but I didn't mind it too much in this case, I think partly because of seeing how it came about from the authors' perspective. The nursing home part was heartbreaking but so beautiful! The writer perspective (from both sides) was so accurate! The little annoyances and then learning to understand each other were great! And there were some good mini-lessons about handling criticism, etc. wrapped in with the main lesson of letting go and trusting God and others. The only thing I had to disagree on was the one hotly debated story-within-a-story scene where the one character is entirely undressed for part of the scene. I get that there wasn't unnecessary detail. I get that it was a natural reaction. But that doesn't mean that I need the picture in my head--or to be actively trying to block the picture from my head--while the scene is playing out. But that was my only major gripe, and I loved the way things worked out, in both stories. ;)

This is such a great read!!! Peyton and Wendy work together, have cubicles right beside each other, and now are forced to co-write a book. The catch: they don't find out what the other has written until that chapter is published for everyone to read. Wendy is positive she can't work that way, Peyton tells her she can. Peyton has crushed on Wendy, and their one date was disastrous thanks to him. Wendy hasn't let him forget it, either. Now, he tries to let her know through his writing just how much she means to him. They start spending more time together, but all of Wendy's fears and insecurities are keeping her from believing Peyton really cares. When a tragedy strikes, Wendy is sure that it's over between her and Peyton. When a friend helps her to see that it's really Wendy keeping them apart, she realizes that she's been trying to play God, and it hasn't been working. She finally realizes that the problem is she doesn't trust God, so she can't trust anyone else, either. When she realizes that yes, she can trust God, and she can trust Peyton, she realizes that Tara can trust William, too. There is also a split time story within the main story, and it's sooooooooooooooo good!!

I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is my own.

Delightful, funny and heartwarming

I am enjoying Falling Between the Pages by A. M. Heath.

This story is delightful and funny. The MC's Wendy and Payton work for a Christian publishing paper as fictional writers. Their boss has a great idea, they should team up and write a story together without collaborating. Each Monday a chapter will be printed by one of them and they then have the week to write the next chapter. Of course they do not get along in real life and to Wendy the planner, this is a horrifying idea. The shenanigans begin when Payton uses their real life example to start the story. How to throw him for a loop without sabotaging the whole story? Not only do we get the fictional story about Tara and William a chapter at a time we also get the story happening in real time with Wendy and Payton.
While this book is on the lighthearted side it also had me in tears when Payton prays for Tara during an emotional situation. My tender heart needed that prayer.
This book is refreshing and has kept me turning pages to see what they come up with next. There are no really heavy topics but the FMC does have a grandma in a nursing home that does not recognize her. We see her struggling with that loss. I would share this with my teen neice. Excellent story A. M. Heath!!!!!

This one was a prime example of don’t judge a book by its cover. I expected a nice sweet romantic story; it was that and so much more. The originality, creativity, and plot twists had me wondering what was going to happen next and looking forward to picking up where I left off after having to go adult.

The characters had depth and raw vulnerability and emotions. I especially related to Tara in her fears, control freak tendencies, and even her annoyances (that Little Debbies bit had me annoyed with her AND laughing at the same time! I appreciated the nod to sensory issues and misophonia which I recognized from the first Little Debbies scene and felt seen!) Their arguments were hilarious sometimes yet authentic, and their faith remained forefront and center even when they were facing fears.

I have no doubt God used AM Heath’s words and characters to speak into my life as I navigate through a similar season. His nearness in times of brokenness never ceases to amaze me.

I laughed. I cried. I swooned! I felt the anger and fears. But most importantly I was reminded of God’s unwavering love and His sovereignty over our lives. I’m in such a book hangover with this one. It has caused me to reflect in several areas of my life, earning every bit of five stars for me.
