Steven Gerrard is a genuine Liverpool legend. Captain at the age of 23. Two FA Cups. Three League Cups. One UEFA Cup. And that Champions League win. Gerrard embodies the spirit and passion of Liverpool football club like no other in the modern era. From the raw but talented youngster who made the jump from the Melwood training ground and took to the famous Anfield turf at 18, to the talismanic skipper who has led his beloved club through thick and thin, this stunningly illustrated book, complete with exclusive new photographs, is the story of his fifteen momentous seasons at Liverpool FC. Along with a foreword from Kenny Dalglish, this is Steven Gerrard's Liverpool story in his own words.
It was an amazing read. A great story by a legendary payer. A fantastic captain who led Liverpool to famous victories. It was always fantastic to watch him in reds. He has done a marvellous thing in his career and sets many milestone fo tth4e 4upcomign generation. He is a source of inspiration for the new players. A fighter from core never learned and agrees to taste the defeat. Every football lover will love his story.
The part found exciting when Steven talked about the biggest disaster in footballing history, the Hillsborough disaster. I liked it because it was really interesting to hear about his point of view of the disaster because his cousin Jon-Paul lost his life in the tragedy were 96 football fans also died. He said it inspired him to play better and harder then he ever had before. He proved that by scoring on the disasters anniversary versus one of there main rivals.
Would you recommend this text to other? Why?
Yes I definitely would because this text kept me wanting to read more from the first couple of pages. It gave a real inside to what football really is off the pitch and on it. It described what a real captain should be and Steven Gerrard really showed it by leading his team to win the champions league in 2005 and by himself winning player of the year in 2009. The story really keeps you captivated and interested the whole way to the final page.
loved him as a player, but a bit dissapointed by the book, its more pictures than words, i was expecting and wanted more deep thoughts from the liverpool legend than pictures i could find on the internet, nonetheless this was a good book, if you want more thoughts and texts you should read My Story, another book by Steven Gerrard and others. An interesting book for a Liverpool fan such as myself.
A true team man who never let his country down and his club. Playing in midfield and helping other players to soccer goal. The most magical movement for me as a Liverpool fan was when he lifted the UEFA champions league trophy. A true sportsman who played on his will
Although not a brilliantly written book, if you love Steven Gerrard and Liverpool then you will love the book. Reliving some brilliant memories with a bit more inside info. Good read.
Before: I am very excited to read this book because the auto biography is about Steven Gerrard and he is my all-time favourite. I have watched him play many times on TV and on the field. I’m glad that I chose this book because now I can learn more about him and know many more achievements he has achieved. When I read this book I will remember some amazing things he did for his club, like when he one the Champions League for the 5th time. I also find Steven Gerrard an idol for me and I will always look up to him.
A gentle story of the legend experience in his only club, it revealed some that cant be seen only from the pitch. Steven Gerrard is Liverpool, there's no more word can describe him. Good luck lad and thanks for the loyalty and your immense dedication!
Stevie G was my footballing hero for most of my 20 years watching Liverpool. Don't ask me why it took 8 years for me to read this, I'm also equally or more surprised when I found out, halfway through this read, that there is now an updated autobiography (My Story, 2015) which I should have read instead of this one (my review below will explain why).
While this was largely a pleasant (and quick) read, nicely augmented with pictures curated by Stevie G himself, my initial goal of understanding more about him was left largely unfulfilled. Perhaps this is a testament of his longevity, but the book was pretty much touch-and-go, with many memorable matches just briefly narrated with 1-2 sentences. Even the paragraphs about the 2 most important matches (UCL 2005 and FA Cup 2006) could have been more fleshed out. There are many things I wished he had penned down, for e.g., more academy and early career matches, dressing room interactions, the u turn on his decision to join Chelsea, or even his majestic goal against Middlesbrough. The anecdotes accompanying each picture was a nice touch, but there're many instances where the stories were repetitive and already talked about in the previous paragraphs.
Given his illustrious career, one can't really fault him entirely for glossing over details so as not to end up with a hundred chapters, but this would be stomached by the reader better if the autobiography ended with a major trophy or his eventual retirement, like his subsequent book. I have not read that yet, but I'm guessing it'll feel more complete, with his thoughts on the rollercoaster 2013/14 season, the 6-1 loss to Stoke, Rodgers, and his assessment of players like Sterling, Coutinho, etc.
I must call him a legend of Anfield. Reading the book with every single word, me find him a very genuine, honest but tough skipper though. He's not a soft player, yes he admitted so, but the way he reacted to the players, managers, owners (not only stuff related to LFC but also their opponents) as well as team-mates from time to time deserves my respect, as a fan. I much appreciate his devotion (if not all of his life, regardless of such devotion effected his future on the way through) to the development of LFC since 1998 up to now and of course words cannot describe how thankful I am for him.
Moreover, his statements carried me back to my youthful memories while mentioning the names of Michael Owen, Xabi Alonso, Jamie Carrager, Sami Hyypia, etc who I spent hours sharing related discussions with friends/fans early those days.
My feeling for this book: A lot of pride, pride to be a fan of the Reds for over 16 years and never regret of being so. I'm not a fan of Stevie but admire and respect his character and talent, a quiet captain prefer to be behind his lads and calm them down in every coming up difficult situations. I wonder whether Stevie didn't start his writing soon since he is qualified for an author indeed.
I rate 4 stars for reading, not much hard-touching stories. I like the way the author pass on Stevie's career path in a passionating way, it may fulfill the readers's expectation, especially for some who pays their highly attention to Stevie in his career point of view. The title of this book "My Liverpool story" keep the story outlines flowing fluently, which means that the personal life, attitudes, personal relationships outside the pitch and England national football team doesn't show much. If we are looking forward to seeing the way he feels for Torres, M. Owen .. blah blah, nope, just getting a little disappointed. Another highlight is the magic Istanbul nights, lots of feeling can return back even though it's not as much as What night already was. 😝 I am a Liverpudlian, so may a little favour in this case.
STEVEN GERRARD, a living legend of LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB, connected with this team as a fan then a player, gave everything he could've done to make the Kop happy, and stayed loyal to the red shirt when bad times came.. Loyalty has a name: SG8🔴⚪
Meu ídolo no futebol!
Must read for any Liverpool fans. I’ve been lucky enough to watch the likes of souness and dalgleish and stevie g has got to be up there as a legend status for his generation.
