Dante is a struggling musician in New Orleans with no time for a social life. He doesn't know that his passion has caught the eye of some otherworldly creatures who want more from him than the music he makes. Eroc is a sex demon on probation for showing mercy to a human. When the King of the Incubi hands him the important mission of retrieving Dante's soul, he knows that it is his last chance. But Eroc never anticipated the pleasure he feels when obeying the sexy musician. Can the two overcome their differences and make a meaningful relationship out of a shady business deal? Or will they both lose themselves in the roles they've been cast to play?
Jana Downs lives in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina with three cats, one dog, several dozen fish, and a very understanding partner-in-crime who hates to read but makes exceptions for her stories.
You can usually find her either watching bad reality TV, buying way too many books on Amazon, or dreaming up another man or two to occupy her time because life is good but several drop-dead gorgeous nonexistent men is just better.
There are lots of stories about temptation, the vast majority deal with what happens if a good person is tempted to sin or do something bad. What I loved about this book is that it turns this around, and asks what happens if a bad guy (or supposed bad guy) like, say, a demon, is tempted into being good? A very interesting and fun twist on the morals of Heaven and Hell, and one that is written with lots of humor to boot.
Dante is a human rock musician who is tempting enough to have the demons of hell after him – literally. They wish to ‘recruit’ him and, in the tried and proven way well-known since ‘The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus’ (by Christopher Marlowe, later reworked by Goethe), all they need to do is get Dante to sell his soul.
Eroc is the lust demon entrusted with this mission. He is in deep trouble before the story even begins. Being on probation because he was too nice is not a good place to be, and he is willing to do anything to prove that he is a worthy demon. Until he meets Dante in the flesh and discovers there is more to life than having a good time in Hell. His road isn’t easy, his decisions are tough, but the reward, if he can make it work, is true love.
This book made me laugh about the ‘upside-down’ morality which had a logic all its own, I loved the characters and how they interacted, and watching them struggle with the realization of what they really wanted was very entertaining. If you like books about demons, if a slightly different perspective on good and evil doesn’t bother you, and if you think you can stand, maybe even enjoy, the heat a lust demon and his new favorite human can create between each other, you will probably like his book.
Eroc is an Incubus who has been given the task of getting Dante to enter into a contract for his soul. Unfortunately, Eroc isn’t quite as impervious to the humans’ charms as he thought. Dante inadvertently enters the contract, but he decides to make the best of it as there is no way out.
This is quite a fast-moving novella with a good twist and a very happy ending. Eroc has to get Dante to enter a contract for his soul, but he also has to ensure he does it right after his last mistake. Dante is in a band who wants to hit it big, when he comes across someone in his dressing room he mistakes them for a groupie, to his instant regret. Now Eroc and Dante come to a truce, but Eroc has to go to further lengths to ensure his feelings don’t engage and Dante wants nothing more than for Eroc to let his emotions go.
I really enjoyed this cute novella of an Incubus who needs to gather souls for their King. But, his emotions start to become involved and he has to try to stop them from becoming further entangled. We also has a human who inadvertently agrees to that contract, because he isn’t thinking with his big head *wink wink*. But, what we also have is two men coming together and making beautiful music together (what! They do, it’s a good song), as well as some spectacular sex.
The progression of the story is really quick, over the course of just a couple of days. But, there is a reason as to why it happens so quickly (I’m just not gonna tell you *g*). You get a good feeling for both Dante and Eroc, as we share head space with both of them, and they do make a great couple. They are really hot together in the sack, and we see a little power play (kink, D/s) but it isn’t too heavy and it works really well for them. We also have a little twist at the end when we meet the Incubus King (who sounds interesting).
So if you love Incubi, musicians, slightly D/s sex, hot sex, loopholes, invalidating contracts and happy ever afters, then this is the book for you.
Jana Downs is a fairly new author for me. I’ve only read a couple of her books, but I have to admit, I’ve really loved them all. She’s quickly become one of those authors that I’m keeping an eye out for. I really like her creative storytelling ability as well as her unique and sexy characters. The blurb does an excellent job at describing the story, so I won’t rehash it. Instead, I thought I’d write about why I loved this book and why I recommend it.
Dante is a struggling musician in a rock band trying to land a record deal. His band is becoming more popular, but he still struggles to make ends meet by working two jobs and playing gigs with his band. When he meets the seductively sexy Eroc, Dante is immediately attracted to the sexy man. Before he realizes it, with a play of words, he’s sold his soul and has made a deal with Eroc, who is an Incubus, that Eroc will be his ‘sex slave’ until his band gets a record contract. Then the contract will be fulfilled and Eroc will go onto his next conquest. Although, Dante is disturbed and upset that he’s been tricked, there is something about Eroc that captivates Dante. He finds himself actually liking the Incubus as well as feeling affection toward him. I liked how even though Dante was angry for being tricked, he’s settled within himself enough to somehow forgive Eroc and therefor allows his feelings for Eroc to come to light.
Eroc was another sexy character that I really loved. Although he’s an Incubus, he’s working toward being promoted to higher level instead of getting most of the undesirable clients. When he meets Dante, Eroc doesn’t understand the intense attraction and feelings he has for Dante. He’s afraid of them, but he still can’t help but want to push aside these fears and reservations of them, because he likes and cares for Dante so much.
The story itself is very interesting and well-written. I liked the world the author created for the Incubus’ and enjoyed the wild ride these characters gave me. This was one of those books I read from cover to cover without stopping and I loved every minute of it. I truly hated to see it come to an end, but I’m thrilled that this is the first book in a series. I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for us yet!
Sexy, creatively written and a whole lot of fun, The Incubus Song is one of my favorite books I’ve read this year. I loved the strong attraction and love between the two men and look forward to reading more from Ms. Downs in the future!
OMG I loved this book. The sex demon Eroc is charged with procuring the soul of rock band lead singer Dante. What he doesn't count on is falling in love with him. The story is so wonderful and the sex is HOTTER THAN HOT!!! I mean falling in love with a sex demon? how freaking cool is that? ? !!!!!
The Incubus Song is an easy read, I liked the characters and the story behind, but I would have liked to learn a bit more about the MCs. The cover however is truely horrible!
