Picked this book up when I attended a lecture given by the author. He was one of the keynote speakers at a symposium dedicated to exploring child and teen stress. He is one of the best speakers I've ever heard. The contents of his lecture jibed so closely with my personal experience as a stressed out child and teen and as an adult undergoing treatment for stress that I can't imagine the contents of the book would be anything less than exceptional.
From the first page thru Chapter 2 where I currently am reading, I am on board. Ginsberg has the creds and the wisdom to be a reliable guide for parents. He even understands that there are teens who will need to learn without parental support.
The library copy I started with is dog-eared by many readers. And my daughter and I have already discussed my reading as she thinks of her two children. I think I will send copies of this to our grown kids --who are along with their spouses actively interested in good ideas.
This book is AMAZING. I am going to read it again as soon as I finish it. I've been reading it in short bits - 15 minutes while I wait for the girls at the end of the school day and each day there is some little piece of advice that is practical and immediately useful. It offers advice without making you feel like you've done everything wrong up until this point.
I really liked this one because the author gave some nice concrete examples of what you need to do for your kids to help them in difficult pressure related situations. I will probably reread this when they are teenagers because it is really good advice for that age group.
