A man of honor. A man of war. Ares will battle for his country and for those he loves. They don’t call me “Ares” for nothing. I fight like hell for what I believe in, and I believe in fighting for what’s right. I will take down any enemy who threatens the good of our country—or any country. Human lives need to be protected and I’ll be damned if I sit by and watch anyone hurt another.
When I encounter Margeaux, I know immediately she’s far from my “Nemesis.” Together, we’re going to destroy the enemy—we’re going to win this war. And when it’s over, we’ll get lost in each other’s arms.
While each title in this series is a standalone featuring one couple with their own HEA, the books in the series will be more enjoyable read in order.
Wow what a page turning ride Nem and Aries’s story is. Their story grabs you from the first chapter and doesn’t let go to the very end. Ares and Nem are brought together to head up a human trafficking force. As they work together to take down the human traffickers their strong attraction to each other grows as well. How it all works out is a wonderful action packed read!
I'm going to call this book a crossover. It is the beginning of a new series within the K19 ranks. We met Ares, AKA Philip Kappas, in the last installment of K19 Shadow ops series, team one. He was a character in Mayhem's book brought in to help with profiling. At the end of that book, we find out he has a new assignment, and that brings us to this series K19 Allied Intelligence Team 1. If you have read the Wicked WineMaker's series, Especially Press' Passion, you also met Ares. But if you haven't read any of those books it doesn't matter, you can jump into Ms. Slade's books anywhere and go backwards or forwards.
Margeaux Jordan AKA Nemesis, is part of England's famed MI6. Her best friend is also Wren Whittaker, who got her HEA in the Royal Agents of MI6, again why I consider this a cross over novel. All of our old friends come back to visit, including Doc, Merrigan, Razor and Paps, which prior to this book hitting my kindle I've been reading the Butler Ranch series.
These two are teamed up on a human trafficking task force, and wow talk about instant attraction and a slow burn because Nemesis is fighting it. She crossed the line once before with an American intelligence agent and that didn't go well for her. She didn't know his heart really belonged to someone else, and he had his own book with an HEA, that concluded the K19 Shadow ops Team 1 series, Mayhem. Wren also blew that situation more out of proportion than it was.
There are some things I could say, but I don't want to as some of them are spoilers towards the Wicked Winemakers if you haven't read that. Events in this book coincide with both Ridge's Release and Press' Passion. Just told from different folks points of view. That is one thing that I really enjoy about some of these series, as they are happening simultaneously, but each book tells the story from a different couple. I look forward to Cayman's story which is next.
When Kellen “Money” McTiernan took over the CIA one of the first ones fired was Philip 'Ares' Kappas, guilt by association. He was also immediately snatched up by K19. Now he's going to be part of the UN Coalition Against Human Trafficking. Henri “Baissier” Marchand the French Ambassador to the UN is in charge and would be Ares boss.
His counterpart from MI6 is Margeaux 'Nemesis' Jordan. It's their first meeting that had me giggling and really sets the tone of the relationship right from the beginning.
Ares seems to have a problem with stepping on Nem's toes, making suggestions that are approved before he discusses them with her. The biggest one is working remotely, from an estate outside of London belonging to one Nem's team Cayman's family.
Wren and Wilde Wittaker also join this team as they attempt to find the origins of two shipping containers that had 124 fatalities within. Nem's team takes lead on this while Ares' team assists with finding Luisa Reeve and getting the others with her safe.
This is a very emotional book, between the deaths, recoveries, and a very convoluted investigative path, I couldn't put this book down. I loved the growing romance between Nem and Ares in spite of the fact they both fight it tooth and nail.
What a fantastic new series! Ares and Nem each lead a team as part of the UN's task force on human trafficking, and find that working together is professionally very productive but personally very frustrating! Nem's been hurt before so she's sworn off any romantic entanglements with the men she works with, but Ares proves to be up to the challenge.
I love this author's world-building. We're dropped right into the thick of it, with one horrifying case originating in England under Nem's jurisdiction, followed by another that was introduced in an earlier series by this author, a case that falls under Ares' purview. If you've read the earlier Wicked Winemaker's books, you'll appreciate seeing that case from Ares' POV, but this book is a true standalone, supplying all the relevant details on the case.
The romance is swoony and very satisfying, with a small but surprising complication that I never saw coming. The characters are compelling, and the cases feel so realistic that they'll really make you think about what's going on in the criminal world today. I can't wait to read more in this fascinating series! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Heather Slade has honed her writing skills through each of her previous books until she gives her readers what we most crave: a full-bodied, high-octane suspense-filled novel. ARES is all that and more. This book also has limited steamy language and bedroom scenes that are pertinent to the overall story. That said, the author does use adult language throughout this novel. The formula I use in reviewing a book is as follows:
A beginning A middle An ending
What an author writes determines these 3 parameters. Most authors give this to his/her readers. However, great authors expand each section to include characterizations, background information and plots and twists. Those items determine my review rating. Heather Slade gave this reader a 5-star novel. She took no shortcuts, nor truncated her writing for a specific word count. Neither did she give this book superfluous information for obtaining the specific word count. Hence, my description in the opening paragraph of my review: a full-bodied, high-octane suspense-filled novel. ARES is a gold standard for the romantic suspense genre. 5 freaking stars!
Heather has truly outdone herself with Ares. I certainly understand her Facebook comment about finally finishing the first book in this new series: K19 Allied Intelligence Team One. In this book we are given more information on how K19 and associated other agencies are forming a coalition to fight human trafficking. Ares is our hero from K19 and Nemesis is our heroine from the UK, and of course they are both extremely headstrong and at times are at logger heads with each other. We also meet the fellow members of this new Team as well as some of the K19 Shadow Ops that make up Team. The storyline is one of learning how they plan to put a stop to the human trafficking that is going on and trying to find the person who is ultimately responsible. And of course how the relationship between Ares and Nemesis proceeds from, I can’t stand you, to well you can guess. Of course other members that we’ve met in the other books show up. Even is you’ve never read Heather before you will enjoy this one. I was given an ARC for my honest review of this book.
This is the 1st book in the K19 Allied Intelligence Team One Series by Heather Slade. It is also a spin-off from Heather's other series. You will be reintroduced to some of your favourite characters from the Invincibles, the Royal Agents of MI6 as well as the Wicked Winemakers, all of which play important roles in this story. This is Phillip Kappas (Ares/ also known as The God of War) and Margeaux Jordan (Nemesis) story. They first meet and come together when he becomes part of the UN Coalition Against Human Trafficking. He and his team investigate one section and she and her runs the other half with Henri “Baissier” Marchand the French Ambassador to the UN is his boss. When they meet there is fireworks and chemistry that just about ignites the pages. Now, we discover just how the plan to bring down the Traffickers This book is everything and more of what you have come to expect from this amazing author. I’m looking forward to the next installment..
CAUTION: This story touches on human trafficking. Anyone can be a victim of trafficking anywhere, including in the United States.
This was a great book. It’s suspenseful with captivating characters. The characters have a love/hate relationship with a happy ever after. Once you start reading you definitely won't be able to put it down.
Ares worked for K19 Security Solutions. He had been recommended to head the US task force’s UN Coalition Against Human Trafficking. He has ample knowledge of this type of crime. He was the agent in charge of breaking up the largest trafficking ring in US history. He’s set to work with Nemesis who doesn't want him there.
Nemesis been tapped as a task force leader for the United Nations Security Council. They would be taking down a human trafficking ring. She was MI5’s leading expert on this type of crime. She can't believe her boss had brought in Ares to assist with the takedown. He is an arrogant blond Adonis.
I really enjoyed reading Code name Ares . Philip Kappas (Ares ) is working for K19 the last case he worked on was breaking the largest human trafficking ring in US history. Ares is tasked to work under the UN coalitions as one of the top human trafficking experts with his own team . Ares and his team are sent to London to work with the UK task force in a joint investigation . Upon arrival he and Margeaux Jordan (Nemesis ) rub each other the wrong way but both immediately feel sparks . They will be working as the lead investigators and try not to kill each other . Of course theirs a fine line between love and hate . As the work side by side their attraction and feelings grow as do the danger . This story is outstanding and Suspenseful and interesting . I highly recommend taking the time to read .
Code Name: Ares is book 1 in the new K19 Allied Intelligence Team One series by Heather Slade. While you may remember these men and women from Ms Slade’s other series, first up is Ares and Nemesis book.
Starting with a new task force Ares is sent across the pond to work with Z Alexander and his European counterpart, Nemesis to destroy any and all human traffickers worldwide. When these two meet sparks ignite but both need to keep them hidden…except the more time they spend the harder that becomes. We see old friends, meet new ones, face the past, combined forces, eliminate traffickers but know more will follow…
This book sets up the rest of the series…can’t wait for Cayman’s book!
The newest installment in the K19 world starts a new series with Area and Nemesis’ story. Their chemistry is on fire from the start. These two fight the pull which creates quite a few moments you don’t want to miss.
Ares travels across the pond to join the teams searching for the leaders of the sex trafficking ring. His counterpart Nemesis is strong willed and ready to send him back. This book brings us update on old friends, introduces new characters, and brings the past full circle. This action-packed series has the teams traveling across continents and working to save all they can.
This is an amazing start to the new series looking forward to the rest of the team. Cayman’s up next.
Code Name Ares kicks off an new spin-off from Heather's other series. Set in the K19 word, there are connections to the Invincibles, the Royal Agents of MI6 as well as the Wicked Winemakers. Characters from all these books have parts to play in Ares and Nemesis' story, so while it can be read as a stand-alone, the references alone will make you want to grab the other stories as well! The book is a fast-paced, nail-biting suspense combined with an insta-attraction between collegues that turns into a love too strong to be denied. Both are very loveable and relatable characters and their HEA is beautiful and heart-warming. leaving me looking forward to the next installment. I was fortunate to have received an advanced copy from the author and am leaving my review voluntarily and honestly.
US & UK Combine Forces in K19 Allied Intelligence Team!!
Many familiar faces/names and a new focus on a combined task force to eradicate trafficking. Ares - “God of War” leads the US team; Nemesis, well named, the UK team.
Nemesis was burned previously with a peer dalliance, and is all business. Ares loves her flared nostrils and cocked brow upon being angered. He is intent on breaking down her walls, while putting an end to the traffickers.
A tough subject, with a stellar team, great camaraderie and entertaining repartee.
Action-packed, intriguing and an all-around amazing read. Pure entertainment.
***** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book *****
While this is the first book in a new series there are plenty of links to previous series by this very talented author Think the Royal Agents of MI6/K19 Shadow/Wicked WineMaker but you don't have to have read these series to enjoy this latest offering but I only have one thing to say i advise you to grab them quick because you won't be disappointed
Philip Kappas (Ares) is teamed with MI6 agent Margeaux Jordan (Nemesis) in a task force trying to bring down a trafficking ring and the attraction between them is instant and hot but Nemesis is trying to deny what is happening after all she has been romantically burnt by an American Operative before. Can he get her to relax around him and can they have a future You will have to read to see as the case unfolds around them
Wow! Explosion of emotion! There are little tidbits from some of your favorite series by Heather Slade wrapped up into a new series. Lots of familiar faces and names join hands to help the start of the new team in K19 Allied Intelligence. The new team is co-lead with Margeaux aka Nemesis from SIS and Philip aka Ares aka War God one of K19 operatives to fight the worst of criminals- human traffickers. These two have chemistry and angst that will have you rooting for them both professionally and romantically. Emotions run high and very touchy subject. Heather Slade will have you on the edge of your seat unable to put the book down. I cannot wait to see how this story arc progresses.
Ares was sacked after his last assignment, fortunately Doc asked him to join K19. Now he's on an assignment to uncover more human trafficking rings. Nemesis, Nem, is also tasked with the same assignment, the chemistry is instant between them but she won't act on it as she was humiliated in the past, by having a one night stand with a colleague. Then said colleague joins the team. Is Nem as happy about it as she says? Now they all have to concentrate on the mission, save as many people as they can.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
A great read for the start of a series from Heather, can't wait for the next one!
Human trafficking occurs too often, and Heather Slade wrote a fantastic story. Ares and Nemis are tasked to discover and disband this serious problem. Many past character join in their fight. The well-written page-turner is filled with tragedy, villians, and an undeniable romance. After their first tragic takedown, the heat is on to capture the bad guys and save as many human lives as possible. The wonderful characters are well-developed and believable. I loved the book and the ending. Looking forward to the next instllment of the series. I received a copy, and I'm voluntarily giving my honest review.
Really enjoyed the first book of the series. Ares is definitely a War God, lol this book had some funny laughs in it like that but dealt with a very serious task of human trafficking. This series is about a task force put together to stop it with several countries. Nemesis is one of our leads in the story and watching the hot and cold between her and Ares is , well Hot! I loved how we got to see friends from the past and one of my Favorites from another series! I can’t wait to read more and just say this book was really good.
A wonderful first book to this series, involving all the K19 organizations, plus others, trying to find a way to take down a human trafficking ring. I love Ares from the US and Nemesis from the UK working together, finding the attraction between them is an all-time high for both of them. This story is full of mystery, suspense and chuckles. All is not solved in this book, but I am looking forward to the next one in this series. Heather Slade has a knack for keeping you reading and reading without stopping.
Always intriguing characters in this author's repertoire. This time we have the War God, or Ares, but Nem and Wren call him the War God just to get under his skin. An intriguing story, as well I'm so very impressed how the author carries the timelines from one book to another. You can read each individually, but if you have read the others in the other series, you see the intricacies of the overlapping timeline. Always love the characters and their depth in these stories and I love seeing tidbits of some in each of these new stories.
Great start to a new series in the K19 and Intel world. K19 operative Ares and British MI6 agent Nemesis are paired to work for the UN task force fighting Human Trafficking. Both are Alphas and bumped heads regarding being in charge. I really enjoyed the back and forth between these two who are colleagues fighting an attraction. The action and intrigue of following leads and taking down bad actors kept me turning pages. I especially liked that we ran into old friends like Z, Doc and Merrigan, Wren and Wilder and more. Great story!
If you have the K19 Shadow Operations or the Wicked Winemakers: First Label series, you have met Ares before, you will some of the same details from a different point a view and timeline. Ares (Philip Kappas) is teamed with Mi6, particularly, Nemesis (Margeaux Jordan) for human trafficking task force. The pair have an instant attraction, but she is fighting it, due to her past experience.
Of course, the more time the two spend together the harder it is to fight the chemistry between them. Looking forward to more from this series.
Again a well written well understood book The characters are all gripping And very diversified The horror that they see And have to handle Throughout this book is Unimaginable To most of us but these things happen on a daily basis in the United states and Around the world my hat goes off to you Heather Slade for Writing About the horrors that happened in the world everyday and bringing it up to everyone Who reads your books this is a Subject that should be known to everybody and to all ages so thank you. This is one of the best stores you have Ritten 2 date
Wow! This is an interesting start to a new series. This story is about Ares (of course) and Nemesis. Two great agents coming together to help fight the human trafficking scene. It's amazing how two people can avoid their attraction to each other until they find are able to close a couple of operation rings. So happy these two finally confessed their love for each other and for Nemesis to get the well deserved recognition. FANTASTIC job Heather! I would recommend this book!
Ares and Nemesis. I loved the two code names and how they came to work together/fall in love. However, I also found this book a bit overwhelming with all the new characters, different raids and teams, backstory etc. I think the series will be great, but I am also confused on who, where ir what the series is following except that the back story will be the UN task force. Several favorites from previous books and series such as Gunner and Doc were present which is always a good time and connection.
What do you get when you mix hot intensity with ice cold calmness? Ares and Nemesis, that's what. I truly enjoyed this book and thought it was the perfect start to this new series because it left me eager read future entries. The combination of action, danger, emotion, drama, suspense, twists, steam and excitement reads smoothly and packs a heavy-duty punch. A definite winner. I am electing to post an unbiased review.
Great start to the new series. So many characters from other books/series make an appearance The chemistry between Ares and Nemesis is fantastic, while they deal with sex trafficking. I enjoyed this book. It has left me eagerly waiting to read what comes next in the series. There is suspense, drama, danger, romance and excitement galore. Was an easy read that keeps you engaged.A definite book/series to read. Heather Slade does not disappoint.
"Code Name: Ares" (K19 Allied Intelligence Team One Book 1) by Heather Slade was a terrific read. I loved Ares and Nem's story. This story had romance, action, suspense, entertaining characters, military veterans, and more. This was a great start to this new spin-off series. I'm looking forward to reading more of this new series. Highly recommend it to all fans of romance, military, action, and series.
This book is the first in a new series, but has lots of links to the others. It has a real first book feel as it introduces lots of characters but also ones we have met before and sets the scene for the series ahead.
We meet Ares and Nemesis who are the leaders of this new unit and sometimes it feels like their story is second in comparison to the story arc of the series.
What a great book and start for the new series offshoot. The chemistry between Ares and Nem starts off strong with two highly efficient and dominating personalities. Love watching Ares try and get under Nem's skin just to see her irritated so her nose flares. Great start with a bunch of new characters and of course some of the originals thrown in for a story that you don't want to put down.
