Rabbit Language or "Are You Going to Eat That?"

Rate this book
Rabbit Language or "Are you going to eat that?" Second Edition, is a humorous guide to communicating with one's pet rabbit and the perfect gift for those who share their home with a rabbit.
The book is the original guide to rabbit behavior, which has spawned many imitators. Rabbits are quite different from cats and dogs and can be hard to understand. Rabbits make fabulous pets but are not for everyone. Hopefully this book will help illuminate that. The book is a light-hearted yet informative guide to annoying behavior and an essential library addition for rabbit owners.
The internet version of Rabbit Language or 'Are you going to eat that?' has been a popular reference for rabbit owners since 1995. The online text was rewritten and expanded. The pen and ink wash illustrations were done from life and later colored in Photoshop.

If you’ve ever wondered what you rabbit was trying to tell you with its language of nibbles and nose-twitches, head bumps and ear position, thumps, leaps, and grunts, this book is for you. Carolyn Crampton has lived with house rabbits for over 20 years and has experience decoding their secret language. Not only will you learn what your bunny is saying, you’ll also learn how you should respond.

For example:
“Chin rubbing
What it means: It does not mean marking territory. It is a rabbit custom, like saying grace before a meal. In short, “One day I will eat you.”

What you should do: Give your bunny more sticks and branches, keep your stuff off the floor, and kiss the antiques goodbye.”

Humorous and light-hearted – this is a lady who knows bunnies. Experienced rabbit owners will recognize their own rabbits’ antics in her descriptions and illustrations. The warning at the end may scare away some potential beginners, but Crampton raises some good points. “Rabbits will wreck your home, destroy your relationship with your boyfriend, and cause your friends to ridicule you behind your back. Your home will smell like a barn and there will always be rabbit raisins on the carpet.” Yes, well, we bunny lovers wouldn’t want it any other way.

This book is hysterical! Any rabbit owner will relate to the interpretations of a rabbit's actions. It's a bit overpriced to buy, but I felt it was worth it.
