By identifying and describing the most powerful financial and non-financial KPIs, this book will make life easier for you by defining them, explaining how and when they should be used and providing a rich library of KPIs that have been proven to significantly improve performance. The book presents case examples to illustrate the selection and use of the KPIs and provides tools such as KPI selection templates and Key Performance Questions to help you apply the most appropriate KPIs effectively in your business.
I read this book on the recommendation that it’s a Top 10 must read for consultants - given the problem solving skill mega trend that exists today, all managers should build consultancy skills.
75 KPIs across finance, operations, sales, supply and Human Resources. Each of them are broken down into the definition, how to measure, sources, costs of measuring and tips/warnings so it makes for a great reference book.
My three favourite KPIs;
📖 Operating Profit Margin; because it’s a good reminder to me that there’s costs that impact the profit of a business department beyond just the costs of good sold.
📖 Customer Satisfaction Index; because without satisfied customers the business is unlikely to succeed but it’s also useful to know how this could be applied in a public or monopolistic business environment.
📖 Training Return on Investment; because this one is such a difficult one to calculate but so critical to master to support the competence agenda in organisations.
Insanely practical guide on Metrics and frameworks for thinking through the levers of business operations. This is a go to desk reference for anyone in operations or looking for a crash course in operations.
400 pages worth of KPIs. The author doesn’t even add a conclusion or outro. You really get what you asked for, without any fluff, nothing more or less. I like it!
Great to get more in depth explanations of KPIs or to come up with new ones for your company. The author structures the whole book very logically; I find it extremely easy to navigate and get a lot of new ideas on the topic of KPIs. The author quotes relevant references to dig deeper on each KPI.
