Rate this book
Set in the elite foxhunting community of Middleburg, Virginia, this fast-paced mystery, packed with scandal, envy, vengeance, and love, unfolds when Doug Cummings, an attractive and driven lawyer and horseman, realizes that someone is out to kill him when he barely escapes a suspicious accident. With his only known enemy—twisted psychopath Zeb McGraw—behind bars, Doug is forced to ask himself Could someone on the outside be helping McGraw? and Could the culprit be the mysterious cowboy who, almost too miraculously, helped save my horse? Caught in the middle is alluring horsewoman Kendall Waters, recently divorced and battling the demons of her past. As the chilling plot unfolds, Doug struggles to hunt down the would-be killer and end the nightmare, no matter the cost.

This is the second in the Hunt Country series. I have not read the first but was able to figured what happened. This book continues with Doug Cummings and the individual he put in prison. Zen McGraw wants revenge on Doug and Doug’s family. The author provides clues throughout out that make you think you have figured things out but you are not sure.

"The Chase" is the sequel to "The Hunt" by Jan Neuharth. The McGraw family involved again in the plot. This one was a page turner as the first was, but I reverted to a bad habit with this one. I borrowed it through Interlibrary Loan which means I got it in hardback. The book got tense and I read ahead but yes I did read every page. "The Hunt" I read in an ebook format and I had to take the tension the plot offered as it occurred. Good entertainment. Good suspense novel is you like this type of reading.

Mystery by a local author set in my town, so I got a kick out of the accurate local color and references. Plot and story are good, but characters and writing eh--we hear a waitress give the sides choices when two characters are getting dinner. Come on! That's boring in real life when it's your own supper.

Another enjoyable hunt country mystery from Ms. Neuharth.

We pick up shortly after The Hunt ends and follow Anne, Doug and Samantha in round 2 of their battle against Zeb MacGraw.

A quick, entertaining read.

Jan brings the Hunt Country of Northern Virginia to life. Her mysteries extend well beyond the equestian set and I recommend all of her books to all of my friends! I can't wait for her next.
