5 stars for the pure enjoyment of reading this aloud with friends and all the side commentary.

Read this out loud with friends and that has made it a book that we often reference in book club. I also love that Mr Thurwell prides himself on having read every book in his library.

Too much "do the right thing" propriety here. If I were Morwenna, I'd have been Maxwell's mistress, rather than waiting patiently for his sickly wife to finally croak.

I like this book, on how Goring developed the characters. But I'm slightly disappointed on how their relationship turns out.
