The rewards of a keeping personal journal are detailed with practical advice and excerpts from diaries written in the past. By the author of Trouble for Lucy.
I'm taking a class on journal and memoir writing so I thought this was quite inspiring. There are many good ideas for getting started. This book was mainly aimed at the younger writer, but the basics are there.
I don't think this book contains any information about journals that the average human couldn't come up with on its own. However, it's saved from a 1-star rating by the truly charming and interesting quotes from published and unpublished personal journals, and the bangin' reading list at the end.
One of the better books about journaling I have read, I really enjoyed it. Though it's clearly written for children or teenagers, I found it informative and interesting. I enjoyed the excerpts from the published and unpublished diaries and journals, many of which I had never heard of previously.
I read this book when I was in school. It's really meant for a school-age audience, but it's sometimes useful to go back to first principles and see why you became addicated to writing in the first place.
