Pooh visits Dr. Owl for his "animal checkout." With some reassurances to allay his anxieties, Pooh goes through the regular steps of an annual check-up with little explanations for all the doctor's instruments and a vaccination shot at the end that doesn't hardly hurt at all that will prevent "bumps and weasels."
A cute tale that I had to read to my daughter over and over, before every doctor visit or on any day she had to stay home sick.
(My Pooh Project: I love Winnie the Pooh, and so does my wife. Having a daughter gave us a chance to indoctrinate her into the cult by buying and reading her every Pooh book we came across. How many is that? I’m going to count them this year by reading and reviewing one every day and seeing which month I finally run out. Track my progress here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list... )
"Pooh Plays Doctor" is a great way to introduce the concept of an annual checkup to a child while being a sweet story. Christoper Robin bring a play doctor set to the Hundred Acre Wood and Pooh gets a checkup.
A very sweet book with great insight as to how a typical doctor's visit works.
This cute book does a good job explaining what a typical check up might be like and even mentions getting a shot, all while telling a story about Pooh and the others. Great for preparing a young child for a doctor visit.
This book would be for the primary reader. This book is a great fantasy book because Winnie the pooh is a very well known character to children. All of the characters in Winnie the pooh have their own characteristics, a child may be able to relate to themselves or someone they know. The writing is very clear and easily understood. In this book Winnie the pooh is going to visit the doctor. The doctor can be a very scary person to a young child. This Winnie the pooh story may help a child see that going to the doctor can be a good experience. The illustrations also show all of the things you may see in a doctors office.
Pooh Visits The Doctor Zoehfeld, Kathleen Weidner this book using stills and drawings from the television and movies to teach life lessons with Beloved Disney characters. Pooh and his friends find out about doctor visits when Christopher Robin says he has to go to the doctor. The friends explain and elevate the fears of Pooh and Piglet about visiting the doctor, and learning how to take care of themselves.
This book has been read so many times in our house that the pages are falling out. It's got all the charm of a pooh story (with surprisingly poetic turns of phrase), humor, and it demystifies getting a check up.
*sigh* I can't bring myself to rate this above 2 stars because of my feelings about Disney copyrights and use of characters, which I need to really have time to sit and think about someday. The book is an easy win, and useful especially in the days before a young child's annual checkup.
The idea behind this story was a nice one to help children understand check ups and not being afraid of the doctor. But it got to in detailed and to 'fact' to make the story interesting.
An excellent book for managing a child's expectations about having a check up and how it is always so much more pleasant when you have a "Piglet" to hold your hand.
