Because of the super short length of the alleged book (only 56 pages - the other eight pages are ads!), the pacing is so rushed as to be non-existent, and the writing seems sloppy as well. Why are Frank and Joe fighting? We just don't know! Even if the author intended to tell us, he didn't have a chance. The characters don't so much progress through the story as they find themselves suddenly in a different place or situation. That lasts about two pages.

This was the first of the "New Case Files" series I've read, though I read several of the original Girl Detective and Undercover Brothers graphic novels, and liked them. Perhaps because they were more than 56 pages long. (Can you tell the length was an issue for me?!) Why the publisher thought they needed this change to the format, I have no idea. The art isn't very good either, even though Sho Murase and Carlos José Guzmán did fine with the original series. I'm glad I only paid 99 cents for a remaindered copy.

This is part of a longer story arc involving Romanian twins and Nancy and Ned breaking up/making up. It's a little difficult to gauge Nancy's age here, possibly about 18, and she, Frank, and Joe all know one another. The art was generally good, but I actually thought I was missing a section in the middle because the story jumps abruptly. Basically, Ned has been kidnapped, although exactly why is a little murky. Nancy gets a tad bit too romanc-y for my taste, waxing lyrical about the great mystery that is the heart, but nothing too ridiculous.

Everything was so rushed with this one, it was so short. The art was quite terrible as well, there were some inconsistencies, for example the sitting position of Garina and her brother on the couch from one slide to the next. It kept referencing to the case files as well, which means a reader should pick those out to read to know more. And there were too many corny moments (how did they manage to cram all those in, but never explain more important things is beyond me!). It's a 1.5 for me.

I read this to see if my 9 year old daughter could. There was a lot of boyfriend/girlfriend relationship talk and kissing. They also used idiot, stupid dumb a lot. A mature 9 year old could read it. But I think my daughter will wait a few years. Maybe 13 or 14.

Not very memorable beyond Frank and Joe fighting in the twins from Romania.

OMG!! It was SOOO GOOD! it even had a good message in the end.
I especially loved how Nancy stopped Frank and Joe from fighting with each other. I was like, "Yes, Nancy!" I really loved her in this book. Because I hate Frank and Joe fighting, I loved how she put a stop to it. Definitely worth having in my collection! :)

Dreadful. No motivation, no characterization. I desperately missed my old-fashioned Nancy Drew! On the upside, the text was easy to read and the illustrations were colorful, I guess.
