This is a review of the 1988 edition of this book. I have to say this book was a pleasant surprise and still seems useful even though its old now. The book takes you through all the different regions of China and gives you at least one photo of each item, and sometimes more and write up off all the main historical and natural attractions of each region.
If you were planning a holiday to China and wanted to see some places off the beaten track this would be a good book to get your hands on. It shows a lot of historical sites I've never heard of elsewhere, including some spectacular ancient buildings. This is a great book to get a good idea of the variety of places to visit in China, though I get the impression its much more polluted today in China than when these photos were originally taken.
Beautiful photography of parts of China that I am not familiar with. I love learning about my daughter's homeland. A few maps would have been helpful, I had to pull out an atlas to figure out where some of the places are.
