I received this as a gift for my birthday and it took about 5 months to get through. However, if you like a challenge it is worth the haul. It is a collection of Onion articles Nov 2004 to Dec 2005. The best of these was picked up by mainstream media and dealt with the supposed discovery of the bones of the real Michael Jackson on the grounds of Neverland Ranch. Other favorites included:
-a report about a suicide that included a goodbye PowerPoint presentation -an article about an all-minority postal staff forced to attending mandatory diversity training -a piece about how a local psychotherapist was able to recover a lost memory of a Rockford Files episode -one I connected with a report by a Chinese factory worker trying to understand why American buy all this crap -an opinion piece by action movie director Michael Bay complaining about the success of “March of the Penguins” -a report about Nicole Kidman mauling her handlers -an article about how President Bush will appoint a Secretary of the Nation who will be in charge of actually running the U.S. -a surrealist piece on the break-off of chiplomatic relations between Fritolaysia and Snakistan
Kind of like Saturday Night Live (at least when I used to watch it), there is a bunch of vaguely funny stuff interspersed with hilarious stories and headlines. The hit-to-miss ratio made me skim many stories, but the ration was good enough and the hits funny enough that it was well worth it.
