“For all the kids figuring out who they are and looking for a place to belong.”
As a whole, I enjoyed this!
However, it was a lot darker than I expected! The cover and initial description feel misleading compared to what the actual plot is.
CW/TW: discussion/descriptions of experiments on monsters and humans, death, bullying.
It’s supposed to be set during Frankie’s first month of life, and even references things that happen in the show. However, sometimes things don’t make sense - for example, Gil and Abbey are mentioned even though they don’t make appearances until later in the series, but Clawd isn’t there yet. I know, I know, this is just me being picky.
For me, the strongest points of this book are what I feel Monster High G3 is best known for: the relationships.
Some highlights:
• Frankie and Deuce being beasties. Truly, I love their friendship so much and I have gained a new appreciation for it after this book. He’s so supportive the whole book even when he’s very confused as to what’s going on with Frankie.
• Of course, our main trio. Need I say more?
• CLANKIE. I went into this with 0 expectations of Clankie because truly… what were the odds we’d be so blessed? But we were! Nothing too extravagant, of course, but the crushing is THERE.
• I didn’t expect to leave this book shipping Manny and Twyla but actually it makes so much sense my brain is mad I didn’t think of it earlier. Also, I’m so glad they got such a focus! We definitely deserve to see more of them.
I’m pretty sure this is the first part of a planned series of middle grade novels for the series, and I am excited for the rest!
