It’s hard for me to imagine that I’ve been writing romances for over twenty years now! I started at the young age of 21, just after I got married. Reading romances, and then writing them, came about as a result of having too much time on my hands. When I first married my husband Don, I was working a regular nine to five job and he worked swing shift, from four in the afternoon until midnight. It wasn’t an ideal schedule for newlyweds, and in order to pass those hours when I was alone I started reading romances, and eventually tried my hand at writing them. The road to publication wasn’t an easy one. It took me five years and dozens of rejections to make my first sale, which was to Harlequin for their “Stolen Moments” line. THE FAMILY MAN, written under the pseudonym Danielle Kelly, was one of the twelve novellas published in 1993 for this promotional line.
It took me another two and a half years (and more rejections!) to sell my second book. HEAVEN’S GIFT (written under my own name) was published in October 1995 by Leisure Love Spell for their “An Angel’s Touch” series. Another two years passed of collecting even more rejections before I finally sold to Harlequin Romance and Harlequin Temptation. At the time, writing for both Temptation and Harlequin Romance provided me with a wonderful creative outlet for both my modern, ultra-sexy stories, and my warmer, traditional romances. But as the years passed, I realized how much I enjoyed writing the sexier stories and streamlined my career accordingly so that I was no longer writing the sweet traditional romances, and instead focused on the hotter, sexier stories for Temptation and Blaze.
After writing over two dozen books for Harlequin, I decided to branch out. I wanted to write anthologies and single titles, and came up with an idea about three sexy brothers with the last name of “Wilde”. Little did I know that those Wilde brothers would become such a sensation with readers. In the second Wilde book, WILDE THING, four Wilde cousins were introduced, and readers started writing in for their stories, too. It’s been a joy and pleasure to write each of the Wilde stories, and I want to thank everyone for purchasing those books and putting them on the USA Today Bestseller list!
I’ve been a full-time writer for years, which consists of being deep in deadlines, writing proposals (growling at the husband to fix a glitch in the computer so I can get back to work!), perusing contracts, line-edits (stressing over a scene that won’t work or characters that just won’t talk or cooperate with my plans for them!), galleys, art-fact sheets, promotion, and other publishing paperwork. Admittedly, I wouldn’t trade all the craziness in for pantyhose, rush hour traffic, and a nine-to-five job again. Writing is hard work, but I find the rewards are well worth the effort. Fan letters are one of those priceless rewards, and can keep me on a high for days! I’ve met the most wonderful people through my books, some of which I now consider good friends.
Very enjoyable. Easy to read with a good pace, a likable H/h, some interesting supporting characters and some very erotic love scenes.
Nathan Fox is a former Marine/ Las Vegas vice cop. Nathan quit his cop job when a case went horribly wrong for him, leaving him shattered and despondent and causing a breakup with his fiancé. Now he works as head of security for a Las Vegas casino and also as a member of the Reliance Group. The Reliance Group, run by 36-year-old Onyx Casino operations manager Caleb Roux (sure to have his own book) is a discreet and covert organization whose members consist of 'specialists' with unorthodox skills who take on assignments other agencies refuse to touch. Nathan gets an assignment to go undercover and rescue a 16-year-old daughter of a recently retired marine colonel and who has ended up living with billionaire Las Vegas financier Preston Sloane. Sloane is an upstanding citizen to the public, but behind closed doors, rumor has it that he has a penchant for young girls, and may be mixed up in prostitution and human trafficking. Nathan has to insinuate himself into Sloane's world in order to get himself invited inside his compound, where he hopes to rescue young runaway Ashley.
Nathan...
At a charity speed dating event, Nathan meets sexy blonde reporter Nicole Hutton, and it's lust at first sight. Nicole (who has big career aspirations) is doing a fluff piece on dating in the 21st century, meets the dark-haired, caramel colored eyed Nathan, who makes her pulse race and her panties melt, and soon after the event ends Nathan and Nicole are hitting the sheets. Hot, hot, hot! Neither are looking for forever (Nicole had a disasterous relationship as a college student that really messed with her head and heart), but damn, they're good together. Nathan would like to see where things would lead, but afraid-to-risk-her-heart Nicole ducks out (leaving a happily exhausted Nathan sleeping in bed) before they can have that conversation. But as Nicole is sneaking out the door, she comes across a folder with some interesting info regarding Preston Sloane...
Soon Nathan and Nicole find themselves working together (using the younger-looking-than her years Nicole as a tempting 'lure' for Sloane)--Nathan trying to recover a runaway and bring down sleazy Preston Sloane, and Nicole helping while also trying to write an exposé that would advance her career. While working together they agree to a 'friends-with-benefits' relationship--but will it be enough for them? Nathan is game for more, but has Nicole finally met a man who she can trust her heart to?
Well this story may have followed a typical romance formula, and didn't offer many surprises (and contained a TSTL moment by the heroine), but I liked it. Nathan and Nicole were verry hot (this book bordered on the erotic), the book was an easy read and it kept me turning the pages. Yes, Nicole did a very stupid thing near the end of the book where I'll admit I thought "You stupid twit!"...but what the heck, I'll cut her some slack because she was trying to save somebody.
The sigh-worthy, root-beer-drinking Nathan and Nicole had some white hot chemistry, and they acted on it, a lot (there was this scene with a Ferrari...). But they also had a good relationship outside the bedroom, worked well together, and connected emotionally. I liked them, and I appreciated the time that the author spent developing their characters and all the details provided. I was invested in their relationship and I wanted it to work out.
So if you're looking for a solid, sexy romantic suspense, with an emphasis on the sexy, you'll enjoy this book. This is a good beach read, providing just enough plot and heat to keep you interested without taxing your brain too much.:) This is the first book of a new series, and the series shows a lot of promise (especially if the next book up, Night After Night, brings the same kind of heat between the H/h). I know that I will be giving it a try. 4 stars
Into the Night handles a very tough subject, an old wealthy man, luring young rebellious, troubled teenagers and pulling them in a life of alcohol, drugs, sex and even trafficking.
Nathan Fox is s former marine and former cop. He now works in security in a casino in Vegas and is also a member of the Reliance Group, run by his boss. The group takes on assignments that no-one else does and when Nathan is called for an assignment he is happy, it gives him an adrenaline rush but the case his boss tells him is close to his heart, a teenager runaway who walked into the hands of the pedophile Preston. Nathan quit the force when he was unable to save a girl like her and started abusing alcohol and lost his fiancee. He feels scared and even sees this as a chance for redemption.
One of his friends ropes him into a speed-dating event where he meets Nicole. Nicole is a reporter frustrated with how her career is advancing, she does not want to do fluff pieces like dating but wants more. She is sexually confident and does not want entanglements, as a teenager she got involved with an older man, who destroyed her self-confidence with his sick sexual perversions and she in the name of love played along, it took him dumping her and her almost losing her scholarship to claw herself out of that hole.
She and Nathan are attracted to each other and she goes home with him, when she is trying to sneak out at night, she see the folder with details of Preston and the young girl and smells a story, and it also resonates with her due to her past. Nathan is kind of disappointed not to find her in the morning but he goes forward with his assignment when he sees a teenage looking Nicole talking with Preston, he is angry and does not want her interference or her near such scum.
But they agree to work together. The book was not bad, there were some very sexy moments and I liked Nathan more than Nicole. It did make me sick to read about those poor girls and the way they were being exploited.
Nicole does have a TSTL(too stupid to live), moment at the end and I never really liked her foolishness and the ethical line I felt she crossed when she peeked into Nathan's papers. All in all a decent read.
This book simply didn't work for me. I'm not sure what Ms. Denison tried to do with this mix of romance and suspense, but it doesn't bode well for the rest of the series (which, based on this book, I won't be reading).
It looked like she debated between romance and suspense throughout the entire story, focusing on one and then the next, instead of blending the two genres into what we lovingly call "romantic suspense". They didn't work together, and they sure didn't work separately, because the romance was rather bland, and rushed (Nathan and Nicole ended up in bed together on the night they met), I didn't feel a connection to them and didn't feel the connection between them. And as far as suspense goes, I certainly have read better.
I guess, the fault lays mostly at the narrative style's door. The narration didn't pull me in, it dragged, it was bland, and it was boring.
Unfortunate, since I was looking forward to discovering a new suspense author, but it turned out Ms. Denison isn't my cup of tea.
A special thanks to Janelle, for sending me this book for review!
Book 1 in The Reliance Group series
Nathan Fox is going undercover to save a young girl, Angela, from being sexually abused and potentially sold into prostitution. However as he begins working up his case he meets this sexy reporter, Nicole, at a single’s meet-n-greet – and the night ends in some steamy, no-holds-barred sex. But she’s gone before the morning is over and Nathan is left with only Nicole’s hot memory burning him up. A few weeks later Nathan sees Nicole at an art exhibit, and is surprised and infuriated to learn that she’s decided to go undercover on his mission, trying to get an expose on Sloane, the virtually-untouchable and incredibly-wealthy man who kidnapped Angela. Can the two work together to save the girl and keep their passion under wraps?
The major problems I had with this book: Tell not show, poor characterization and contradictory nature, Stilted and unnatural prose and dialogue, and poor plot/suspense development. Surprisingly, the book was not so bad that I had to stop reading it – I sort of wallowed. I was stuck in it, like one gets stuck in mud. Not a good feeling or a good image.
The author drove me insane with her redundancy. The way a character acts is supposed to display what they’re thinking and feeling. Several times the author would write about Nicole smiling and laughing – clear indications that she’s enjoying whatever is happening. That's fine - that's good. But then the author has to, redundantly, point out “Nicole was enjoying their witty banter”. That line came up WAY too often in the book – often enough that I can recall seeing it, specifically, several times. There were a lot of examples of redundancy in the book, as well as that ‘tell not show’ attitude that detracted from my reading experience.
The characters were stereotypical, lacking the depth that could have led to any real emotional connections between them. I was unable to believe the love, trust, and developing intimacy between Nathan and Nicole. It was more ‘BAM we like one another and the sex is great’, less ‘Wow, I really enjoy getting to know you’. The author didn’t back up her statements of intimacy with evidence. I never felt or believed the romance of the story – I kinda read it and scoffed like “Yeah, right.” There was a lot of sex (way more than I was expecting, actually) but as most every romance reader knows sex does not equal romance or intimacy.
The unnatural prose and stilted dialogue are self-explanatory – the characters sometimes (NOT always) talked like talking cardboard stereotypes. Laughed like them too. The villain was unoriginal in his insanity (I hate that. Can’t we ever have a sane, smart villain?) as was his assistant being crazy-in-love with him. Oldest trick in the book = unoriginal. In this case, there was nothing defining to make it unique, and therefore I was unimpressed.I expect a lot from the villains in my romantic suspense books, especially when there is so much focus on the villain.
Finally, the plot had the same unoriginal quality that the prose and characters shared. It wasn’t terribly suspenseful – I definitely was never on the edge of my seat. I was a passive observer, occasionally skipping passages because I was bored and wanted things to get a move on. Suspense was not omnipresent throughout the story and I kept waiting for something of interest to happen. Occasionally there was a very welcome change of pace, but for the most part the book was lazy and slow. Not good for a book in the romantic suspense category. Overall, while there were a few isolated scenes in the book that I enjoyed, the book clearly did not earn my overwhelming favor and while it could possibly squeak by with a C but is getting a C-.
“Sexy”ness rating: Lots of hots
Overall Rating: C-
Bottom Line: The book was interesting enough, but lacked momentum at times making it a slow, dull read at times. The characters, while developed alright individually, were borderline stereo-typical and had forced interactions with one another. The intimacy of relationships and trusts felt unnatural and forced. The prose was stiff, the dialogue occasionally stilted – while not bad, Into the Night is not a stunner.

Expected Release Date: March 29, 2011 (Available Now!) Publisher: Macmillan Imprint: St. Martin's Paperbacks Author’s Website: http://www.janelledenison.com/ My Source for This Book: Gift from the author Part of a Series: Yes, Book 1, Reliance Group Series Best Read In Order: N/A Steam Level: Hot
Nathan Fox is a former Marine, and a washed-up vice cop. Having lost everything, including his fiance, after his last case went sour, he's now a recovering alcoholic leading the security team for the Onyx Casino in Las Vegas. Behind the scenes, however, he works for the Reliance Group, a private organization that utilizes the unique skills of its team to accomplish things that sometimes law enforcement simply can't get done.
When a new case comes along that bears startling similarities to the case that ended Nathan's career as a vice cop, he knows that no matter how reluctant he may be to revisit the ghosts of his past, he's the only thing standing between a young girl and a life of forced depravity.
Things get complicated, however, when pushy reporter Nicole Hutton also goes undercover to bust Preston Sloane, a seemingly untouchable pedophile and member of the illegal skin-trade -- the same man responsible for the disappearance of the girl Nathan is searching for.
Knowing that he has no choice but to work with her lest she expose his true identity, Nathan is determined to keep Nicole out of harm's way. But Nicole has personal reasons to expose Sloane, and nothing, not even the explosive chemistry between her and Nathan is going to keep her from doing everything she can to prevent Sloane's girls from living a life that was once almost her own.
To be honest, this one started off pretty slow for me. While Nathan was interesting to me, with his undercover work for the Reliance Group, his history as a vice-cop, and his devastation over a girl he couldn't save, which had led to alcoholism and the loss of his fiance.
Nicole, on the other hand, didn't really appeal to me. She was a strong, confident, modern woman, who was also an ambitious reporter, willing to bend the rules on occasion to get out of the rut of "fluff pieces" for her paper and move on to something bigger. However, she felt more.. obnoxious to me rather than interesting. I don't know if it was her overtly aggressive sexuality (which truly just isn't my thing), or the fact that she was pushy, conceited, and frankly a bit dishonest that made her unappealing at first.
Definitely don't let that put you off, however, because only a few chapters in, Nicole's facade begins to crack, and you begin to glimpse the woman she really is -- one who has worked so hard to rebuild her life after literally almost losing everything, and who hides behind her strong, independent persona.
There's also no denying that this book was incredibly hot, and the tension between Nathan and Nicole was absolutely decadent. The love scenes were plentiful without taking away from the rescue mission, and I for one absolutely adored the ending.
There was also a slight touch of the paranormal, as one of the female members of the Reliance Group has psychic powers, but they were severely downplayed and seemed more to be included as a setup for future books than a major part of the plot for this one.
In the end, I actually enjoyed this one a lot more than I thought I would at first. The villain is believable, the suspense involved in undercover work jacked up the tension all around, and the romance was steamy and satisfying.
A perfect introduction into the Reliance Group series as a whole, this book was a perfect blend of sex and suspense. Recommended for fans of realistic (yet incredibly hot) heroes trying to claw their way back into the action after a horrible incident, of heroines forced to break down the walls that have served as protection for almost a lifetime, and of pulse-pounding suspense, all doused liberally with delicious chemistry and some wonderfully hot lovemaking.
I think human trafficking must be the new “it” thing to feature in books. In the last three romantic suspense books I’ve read, human trafficking of women/young girls has been the central focus.
Two people meet at a night of speed dating, each there for their own reasons that have nothing to do with the dating part, but for Nathan, Fox and Nicole Hutton seems their equal disinterest in making a connection - is the thing that they connect over and immediately fall into bed.
Nathan works as head of security for the Onyx Casino, but he also works uncover for a covert organization called The Reliance Group who work secret missions on the side using their Casino jobs as a cover. Nicole Hutton wants to be taken seriously as a reporter, but her boss at The Las Vegas Commentary has her writing fluff pieces. As Nicole beats a hasty exit from Nathan’s pad the next morning, she comes across some private info on a case he's currently working on involving a missing teen. She maybe took some liberties with the information, but the she's just looking for a her big break and this story has juicy expose written all over it.
Nathan is not happy about Nicole crashing his undercover party but they're going to have to work together since it seems the man Nathan is after, Sloane Parker has taken an unhealthy interest in an “innocent looking” Nicole. And the only way for Nathan to get close to Sloane is through his connection to Nicole. Bummer they’re going to have to act like a couple and live together for the duration of this op. Good thing they got that awkward first date thing outta the way. In fact they may as well pick up right where they left off.
I’m not sure why I didn’t really connect with this couple or this story. I’ve said it before...maybe when you read too many stories of the same genre back to back - it’s not a good thing. A really good book can make the mediocre ones seem lacking in comparison.
I thing nail in the coffin for me (even though it happened fairly late in the book) was Nicole’s TSTL moment. They don’t call it a TSTL moment for nothing and hers was pretty stupid and she almost didn’t live.
Love this authors style of writing and have read many of her books in the past, all of which I really enjoyed.
However, what really brought the stars down, was that the lead female in it had an ex that liked to walk on the wilder side and so when she was telling her new "friend with benefits" , BDSM was looked at as wrong, dirty and disgusting and she had to take drugs to do a threesome(oh please seriously why couldn't she just say I did it grrrrr). It annoyed me that BDSM was looked at insuch a generally negative way. It's fine if someone isn't into it, but to make it sound like all BDSM is deviant is ridiculous, just because she wasn't into it. I did like that she wanted a "friend with benefits" and went for it. Was a little difficult to buy that she passed for 16 yr old when she was 25. Lead male seemed kind of weak. Ended very quickly. If I read more in this series it will be because a friend recommends to continue it, otherwise I'll move on and read someone else in this genre.

This is the first book into the reliance series and I enjoyed this book. I kinda went into this with some high expectations and I did enjoy the plot but I felt like the romance wasn't my favorite in this book.
So Nathan and Nicole meet at this event and end up have a wild night but Nicole being a reporter with her sneaky eyes sees something interesting and steals it and follows that lead. This lead lands Nicole to meet Nathan again but he is undercover trying to find a missing woman and he is there for the same reason Nicole is. Both end up forcefully having to team up as they end up needing each other, which ends up to wanting each other ;), but they need to get close to a dangerous vicious man who preys on young girls to find the missing woman.
While I loved the plot and the friendship Nicole makes with one of the young girls who she sees herself in, I didn't connect to the characters.
I didn't like how Nicole got herself in a real dangerous situation and said how she can handle it, but it was way out of her league and she went in alone with no type of back up plan. Like girl that is some stupid sh*t. She also got on my nerves a bit when she interacted with Nathan. I did like Nathan character but I felt nervous for him every time he had to talk to the bad guy.
some triggers: human trafficking, assault, SA assault
Into the Night is the first book by Janelle Denison that I've read and the first in a new series she started in April of this year called The Reliance group series. You get a introduction in this book to the members that make up The Reliance group and at the same time a peek at who might be in future books. Up first is Former Vice cop Nathan Fox.
Into The Night St. Martin's Press The Reliance Group Series - Book #1 April 2011
A former Marine and Las Vegas vice cop, Nathan Fox has seen it all and then some. Heading up security for the Onyx Casino is tame compared to his past, but it's not his only job. Working for The Reliance Group is his real passion project. His current case: a missing woman. His mission: to find her. But soon Nathan must deal with a stubborn, and stunning, journalist who's nosed her way into the investigation . . . and into Nathan's fantasies.
To reporter Nicole Hutton, exposing a ruthless, twisted criminal who abuses vulnerable teens isn't just a job. In fact, this story has become very personal, especially now that she's gotten tangled up with sexy Nathan Fox. But before she can break the story, and help rescue a missing girl, she and Nathan must brave the labyrinth of Vegas's dark underbelly . . . where the heat simmering between them is about to burst into flames.
This was a book packed with suspense, romance and lots of mixed up feelings. Both Nathan and Nicole had things in their past at working against them. Nathan is a ex-cop who quit when his last assignment went horribly wrong and resulted in the death of someone he had sworn to protect. It wasn't his fault but he still harbors the guilt for it. Nicole was taken advantage of by her college professor when she was 18 years old. She was hurt so bad emotionally that she won't trust a man again with her heart. Nathan working for The Reliance Group is asked to save a runaway girl from Sloane a man who is a known to be a shady character who uses underage girls and then tosses them away. Nathan attending a speed dating a event as a favor for a friend happens to meet Nicole, who was there for a story for the paper she works for. They hit of off and their chance meeting turns into a night of super hot sex!! Nicole happens to see the file on the runaway girl at Nathan's house and decides she wants to do a story on Sloane and his nefarious activities and maybe get a little justice for all the girls he's hurt. Nicole and Nathan both go under cover to get into Sloane's circle separately but neither one knows it until they meet at a place Sloane is supposed to be. After the initial shock Nathan grabs Nicole and after hashing things out decide to work together. This is when the story really picks up. They have to get into Sloane's inner circle, invade his spaces and find the runaway girl. All without compromising Nicole who is pretending to be alot younger than she is so they can find Angela the runaway girl. The closer Nathan and Nicole get to finding Angela the closer they get to each other. The sex scenes in this are to die for. Well written and designed to get you heart thumping. You'll fall for Nathan and hurt for Nicole's past. I thought Nathan and Nicole were perfect together and look forward to the next book in this series to find out what happens with the rest of The Reliance Group members. If you like a mix of hot romance, steamy love scenes mixed with rocking suspense this series is a good fit for you! I give Into the Night by author Janelle Denison 4 out 5 of Modokker Book Pick stars. After you read this one get ready for book 2 in this series Night After Night coming October 11. I will also be reviewing it here on the blog.

I read this book a few weeks back and although I recall it in vivid detail, it's not because I enjoyed it. I know this book was published at a time when certain tropes weren't as played out as they are today... but I doubt that even then I would've liked this one. I wasn't a fan of the insta-lust and corniness between the two main characters. That said, I didn't dislike them. They were just difficult to connect with and I didn't care for the romance.
I think this book spent way too much time trying to convince us that the main characters were "hot for each other" instead of moving the overarching plot along. When everything did unfold it felt very anti-climatic and underwhelming. I kept hoping the MCs' plans would get foiled just to make something exciting happen, but that didn't happen... at least, not when or how I'd expected it to. Sadly, that plot point was wrapped up in as many as five or so pages. I found that in places where I was rolling my eyes and just praying for the story to end, it would drag on and on. Then in places where it seemed it would pick up steam, the story fell flat on its face.
The final confrontation with the main villain was quick and unsatisfactory. Not that I wanted to read more about him. He was so bland and one dimensional, I didn't care to read more. He was supposedly charismatic, but I never got any of that from him.
I did like that the story brought light to the impact that grooming can have on the psyche of young girls. I didn't like the human trafficking aspect of it, but I get that it was meant to be ugly and make me uncomfortable. However, throughout the story I sympathized more with the character's plight than the character's themselves.
On a more positive note, this was a quick and easy read. I did like how the pasts of both MCs had a role to play in how they navigated through the story. But overall, this books did not deliver on what it promised. It wasn't action-packed unless we're talking about sex scenes, nor was it suspenseful and thrillerish.
It's been awhile since I've read a Janelle Denison book. This one wasn't too bad. Nathan and Nicole are instantly attracted to each other after meeting at a speed dating event. Both believe the instance will be one night only, until Nathan's case brings them back together again.
As with most Denison stories, the sex scenes are frequent and detailed. Not as risque as her Wilde series, though. For me, that's a bonus. The kidnapping case that the characters are working on plays out well throughout with Nathan and Nicole going undercover to extract a teenage runaway. Denison does a great job pacing the story, but it ends without any true excitement. The pages after the initial end seem to have been added for an extra thrill. I could have used a bit more emotion between Nicole and Nathan, but I'm not going to be too picky after all the duds I've been reading lately.
As I haven't kept up with Denison, I'm not sure if this is the first in the TRG books or if it's already started. I wouldn't mind continuing with the series, especially to read about bartender Sean O'Brien.
Into the Night is Janelle Denison’s latest romantic suspense and the first book in her new series The Reliance Group (TRG). It’s been a while since I’ve read a Janelle Denison book, but I loved her Wilde Series so I was really looking forward to reading her latest release. I’m glad I did because Ms. Denison always delivers when it comes to the chemistry between the protagonists and she never fails to introduce me to characters that are driven, intelligent and have a heart. So when Nicole Hunter and Nathan Fox first meet at a speed dating party the banter between them not only sets up the relationship but immediately draws you into their world and the energy between them. Have to say I loved this book and I think Janelle Denison may just be my new favourite Romance Author!
I stumbled upon Wilde One a while ago and have read as many as I can of that set of books, so when I saw this was a new series I thought I'd give it a go although reading the back I wasn't convinced I'd like the mystery element.
How wrong I was! The thing I like about her books is that the characters really like each other and arn't out to humiliate the other person. It is impossible for me not to like all the Reliance Group and I can't wait for the next one!
The only question I have is can she keep the quality of the sex scenes through all the books? LOL Bring it on!
Part of what diminished my appreciation for this book was the fact that I read it immediately following When You Dare by Lori Foster, a book in the same genre that I found immensely superior. I did like a lot of things about this book, such as the interaction between Nathan and Nichole. Nathan was a wonderful leading man!! But there were a lot of elements that I found trite and juvenile, such as the "Reliance Group" and Gwen's caricature of a woman scorned. All said, I do plan to buy the next book.
This was a fun and fast read. Nathan is a former Marine who is now working as a security specialist with The Reliance Group. He meets up with this reporter, Nicole Hutton, when they are both trying to find a supposed runaway girl. Anyway, suffice to say, the fun begins. The book moves really fast, and it's easy to get caught up in the action. But once I put it down, I promptly forgot what I had just read. The characters were believable and likeable, just not very memorable. But I give it a solid three stars and recommend it to anyone who is looking for some light escapism.
Nathan Fox has his reasons for going after a missing girl. Nicole Hutton has her own personal reasons. Can the two work together to find justice for young girls who are being preyed upon?
While this book was predictable (you could see it coming for miles), it still kept me riveted wondering when it was going to turn REALLY ugly. I will still probably pick up the next installed of The Reliance Group...because we all really want to know what happens with Caleb and Valerie.
this book needed more of something. sorry, can't put my finger on it - but it had the ingredients for a good book (hunky hero, smart feisty heroine, mystery) but it just didn't gel.
would i recommend? sure. if you got it cheap, and were in the mood for some good sex scenes w/ a half decent suspense element.
3 1/2 stars. Enjoyable read, not as good as her Wild series (a few holes), but a good read. The bad guy was a pedophile who used young girls and then sold them into prostitution to the Russian mafia. I felt the book was a little light for such a dark topic. Great chemistry and passion between H&h though.
The plot for the story line was a bit much but believable. The showdown with the heroine and the villain was a bit anti-climatic. However, I thought it was well written and there was depth to the main characters. The characters were more believable due to their flaws. Nice job.
The concept of the reliance group was fun. I liked Nathan. Nicole came off as needy which was annoying but she was at least likable. Good enough start to a series that I'm going to try out book 2.
