This book was mind blowing - I read it with a highlighter and a pencil and covered it with notes!
While many people look at Zecharia Sitchin as a kook who used questionable anthropology and archaeology as a way to sell "alien astronauts" as the basis of sentient life on earth, I find his works to be passionate and well informed studies of Sumerian lore. Even if you discount entirely the concept of the Annunaki as aliens, this series is still a masterful work of bringing some of the most ancient tales to modern man.

I thought the book was fascinating, and while I was a skeptical believer (if that makes sense) before, this book really helped shape my opinions. The author, Sitchin, does a great job of presenting the historical evidence for the Anunnaki. While some might not believe it, I found it very plausible. The most interesting aspect for me was the way the Sumerians depicted the Earth as the seventh planet. How could they possibly have known that? There is just too much evidence that supports something.
I watch the show Ancient Aliens and this is what got me interested in Zecharia Sitchin. If you are interested in the show or need something to back up the claims, read this book. It took me a while to get through it, but I'm glad I did.
The only complaints I would have are that the author is repetitive at times, and at other times I want him to get to the point, but he just keeps posing question after question, saying he'll answer it later. I also found a few typos in the book that distracted me.

Interesting, but a bit long winded. It had many figured illustrations, and while the figures were numbered, a lot of the time they were mentioned on a page other than the one it was pictured on, so it was annoying to have to flip through to find the corresponding figure. Still, fascinating stuff.

A little far fetched. Okay, a LOT far fetched! Aliens (Annunaki) from the planet Nibiru came down to Earth to get gold and after working in the mines they decided they didn't want to do any more hard labor. Why not mate with the inhabitants of this planet and create workers? Great idea! Mate with the Homo Erectus species, create missing link in human evolution from Homo Erectus to Homo Habilis (or Sapiens, that wasn't quite clear), which were actually demigods. Adam and Eve (maybe not Eve, that wasn't clear either) were demigods, as well as Noah (of the Ark-fame).
I was a bit lost at the beginning of the book when he listed the leaders that ruled for 10,000 to 64,000 years each. What, exactly, did they rule? Sumer? Epygt? Earth? I still haven't figured it out. He also claimed that because certain skeletons had larger heads than the norm they were aliens. Maybe they just had big heads! And he quoted from the "autobiography" of one of these aliens! Not sure when this alleged autobiography was written because there was no real time frame given but I'm pretty sure it was before anything else had ever been written down.
My biggest problem with this book is that the author keeps referring to his other books. As in "this was explained in my book The 12th Planet." Almost every page had a reference to his previous writings.
Entertaining read but I am not convinced. No real evidence here.

An amazing non-fiction book that has so much involved in it you have to read it slowly to absorb it. If you have an open mind about the origins of Man, and you like history and archeology, you'll enjoy this interesting take on ancient history. Highly recommended!

I really don't know what number of stars to give this book
It was sometimes boring with so many detailed facts ... but also very informative at the same time.
The `gods' of Sitchin's world are not God in the sense of eternal, all-powerful, creator. They are instead, beings of an extraordinarily advanced race, with the capability of interplanetary travel, genetic engineering, prodigious longevity and fantastic weaponry - who were here on earth before most of us were told history began. Such a race of people would have seemed "God-like" to early earth inhabitants. Sitchin demonstrates that this race of our alien forebears did not evolve to the point of enlightened peacefulness, that there were many and great battles waged by them and therefore their battles were literally the stuff of legends. We are taught that many things in the past are just fiction of the day, myths and stories. Then again they said Troy was a myth until someone found it.
You have to have an interest in this topic and be willing to look at history from a different perspective. I think that while no one knows what actually happened in the earths past, that I have read enough in several books, like this one, to believe that what we have been told is incorrect. I think that earth's history goes back MUCH farther than what we have been told - that the 4 worlds of the Hopis may be much more correct than our modern day history of this "last" world.

Honestly, what passes for Archeology I find it hard to be critical of Sitchin's unorthodox conclusions.
I've heard him on Art Bell in the 90's and was very entertained by his thoughts.
Whether or not there is a vast cover up, or he's out to lunch, I find the topic of ancient civilizations intriguing.
Nibiru, Anunnaki, and Gilgamesh, who knows. The ancient world circulated legends for thousands of years. There is no reason to believe that Nimrod and Gilgamesh are mostly the same, if not the same.
You'll never know for sure. We can't get an honest history from last century. What makes anyone confident on what happened several thousand to tens of thousands of years ago.
It's fun. That's all.

I've always been intrigued by the ancient alien theory so this was definitely an interesting read. I do have to say that sometimes it was hard to read because it started feeling a bit long and drawn out. And even I have to admit that some of the things were a bit far fetched but that doesn't mean that I don't quite believe in it. I'm also a big history fan so I did enjoy that aspect of it as well. It was well-researched and also very well-written so bonus points for that. I do think people who are already interested in ancient aliens will enjoy this more than other people.

I only removed one star from this rating because... I think I’m too stupid to understand this haha there is SO MUCH information in this book, I need to own it instead of getting it from my library so I can pour over it slowly and properly.

SITCHIN’S ‘CROWNING WORK’---SUMMARIZING HIS EARLIER BOOKS
After quoting Genesis 6:1-4 in the King James Version, author Zecharia Sitchin wrote in the Introduction to this 2010 book, “The reader, if familiar with my writings, will also recognize these verses as the reason why many decades ago, a schoolboy was prompted to ask his teacher why it is ‘giants’ … [in] these verses, when the word in the original Hebrew text is ‘Nefilim/---which, stemming from the Hebrew verb ‘NaFoL, means to fall down, to be downed, to come down---and in no way ‘giants.’ … Instead of being congratulated on my linguistic acumen, I was harshly reprimanded. ‘Sitchin, sit down!’ the teacher hissed with repressed anger: ‘You don’t question the Bible!’ I was deeply hurt… for I was not questioning the bible… I was pointing out the need to understand it accurately. And that was what changed my life’s direction to pursue the Nefilim. Who were they, and who were their ‘Mighty Men’ descendants?... And so, starting with one word (Nefilim), I told the tale of the Anunnaki, ‘Those who from Heaven to Earth came’---space travelers and interplanetary settlers who came from their troubled planet to Earth in need of gold, and ended up fashioning The Adam in their image. In doing so I brought them to life…
“I have been asked at times where my interests would have taken me were the teacher to compliment rather than reprimand me. In truth, I have asked myself a different question: What if indeed ‘there were giants upon the Earth, in those days AND THEREAFTER TOO’?... Why did the compilers of the Hebrew Bible, which is totally devoted to monotheism, include the bombshell verses in the prehistoric record---and what were their sources? I believe that I have found the answer… I conclude in this book---my crowning oeuvre---that compelling physical evidence for past alien presence on Earth has been buried in an ancient tomb. It is a tale that has immense implications for our genetic origins---a key to unlocking the secrets of health, longevity, life, and death; it is a mystery whose unraveling will take the reader on a unique adventure and finally reveal what was held back from Adam in the Garden of Eden.”
He wrote, “I have suggested that ‘the Great Deep,’ where the ‘South Storm’ originated was Antarctica; and that the Deluge was a huge tidal wave caused by the slippage of the ice sheet off Antarctica---causing the abrupt end of the last Ice Age circa 13,000 years ago.” (Pg. 57) Later, he adds, “The elimination of that ‘ice box,’ I have suggested, caused the abrupt end of the last Ice Age circa 13,000 years ago.” (Pg. 91)
He asserts, “a fundamental tenet of Sumerian history and teachings was that Kingship was ACTUALLY, and not just figuratively, brought down to Earth from the heavens---that the Anunnaki … actually began their civilized presence on earth in five settlements… the connection between those first of Cities of the Gods and the bringing down of civilization to Earth from the heavens is restated in several other Sumerian documents dealing with pre-Diluvial events. Two of the key documents can be seen … [in] the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology in Oxford, England… among the objects it houses are two priceless archaeological finds of utmost importance to the history of Mankind and our planet; and both record the Deluge… They, or copies of them, in all probability served as a source for the writings of Berossus.” (Pg. 84-85)
He states, “Enki and his crew of fifty had come to Earth… for the purpose of obtaining gold… The plan was to extract the gold from the waters of the Persian Gulf. But when this did not work, a change to deep mining had to be undertaken… Enki’s tasks shifted to a new location called ‘Ab.zu’ … which literally read means ‘Place of shining metal.’ … [It] this meant the place from whose depths the shining metal---gold---was obtained… Aralia … as in southeastern Africa---a gold-mining region to this day.” (Pg. 97-98)
He states, “The notion of space travel is no longer relegated to science-fiction alone… Some savants even dare acknowledge that life, even like ours, might exist ‘somewhere’ in the vast universe… But such sentient beings… so the argument goes---could never visit us … because the nearest possible place … where such life could exist is ‘light-years away’… But what if such a compatible planet were to exist much closer---say, in our own solar system… That is not a theoretical question, because that is precisely what we are told by the ancient texts…” (Pg. 101)
He says, “By treating /Enuma elish’ as a sophisticated cosmogony and not as an allegorical tale… we have obtained a coherent explanation for many puzzles in our Solar System and explain the incredibly fast appearance of life on Earth---and the compatibility between the Anunnaki and the Daughters of Man. The Bible, I suggest, has done the same.” (Pg. 122)
He argues, “Our neighbor Mars, considered just decades ago a lifeless planet since its birth, is now known… to have had a proper atmosphere… flowing water, rivers… It is noteworthy that in ‘The 12th Planet’ we had already provided evidence that a habitable Mars served the Anunnaki as a way station for the interplanetary spacecraft from and to Nibiru; it was there that the Igigi were stationed, their task to operate smaller shuttlecraft between Earth and Mars.” (Pg. 134)
He observes, “We shall never know the name… of the hominid whose [DNA] was used by Ninmah in the genetic mixture for creating the gods’ Workman; with the repeated trial and error, more than one hominid were involved. But we do know---due to additional cuneiform tablet discoveries---whose godly ‘essence’ or bloodline was used in the process.” (Pg. 164)
He contends, “The reader knows by now that Genesis 6:4 does not say ‘giants’---it says ‘Nefilim’ … In retrospect, I realized that the teacher did not invent the ‘giants’ interpretation…. The scholars assigned by King James I … to translate the Hebrew Bible and the term ‘giants’ … They relied on earlier translations… The term ‘Nefilim’ … is used again in … Numbers 13:33 is the tale of the scouts that Moses sent ahead to scout Canaan… The singular ‘Anak’ is also rendered in the plural, ‘Anakim,’ in Deut 1:28 and 9:2… those verses equate the Nefilim with the Anakm, they also depict the latter … as giantlike” (Pg. 198-199)
He says, “we have stopped here and there … to (a) point out misconceptions stemming from mistranslations, and (b) to highlight instances where the Hebrew is a literal rendering of a Sumerian term… in the tale of fashioning Eve out of Adam’s rib…the Hebrew redactor must have taken the Sumerian Word ‘Ti’ to mean ‘rib’ correctly, except that a similarly pronounced word ‘Ti’ in Sumerian meant ‘Life’… What was done was to take that which is ‘Life’---DNA---from the Adam and manipulate it to obtain to a female genetic chromosome… Not a ‘soul,’ but durability, as added to Ziusudra’s life.” (Pg. 246-247)
He notes, “In the biblical context, the crucial change in the realm of demigods from pre-Diluvia times can be summed up by us in a simple statement: Before, the sons of the gods ‘chose whichever they wanted from among the daughters of Man.’ Now the daughters of gods chose whichever they wanted from the sons of Men.” (Pg. 261)
He explains, “The ‘immortality’ of the Anunnaki gods… was in reality a great longevity that can be attributed to their Nibiruan life cycle. The notion of gods (or even demigods) as immortals has come to us with Greece;’ the discovery of Canaanite ‘myths’ at their capital Ugarit… showed where the Greeks got the idea…. In Sumer, the death of gods was as accepted as tales of their being born. The question it, Where are they buried?” (Pg. 327)
He concludes, “I have done my best to show that there is no conflict between Bible and Science, Faith and Knowledge. The [Missing] ‘Link’ is missing I said, because someone jumped the gun on Evolution and used sophisticated genetic engineering to upgrade a Homo erectus … by mixing his genes with THEIR advanced genes. This ‘summing up’ book will be of keen interest to fans of Sitchin’s books.
After quoting Genesis 6:1-4 in the King James Version, author Zecharia Sitchin wrote in the Introduction to this 2010 book, “The reader, if familiar with my writings, will also recognize these verses as the reason why many decades ago, a schoolboy was prompted to ask his teacher why it is ‘giants’ … [in] these verses, when the word in the original Hebrew text is ‘Nefilim/---which, stemming from the Hebrew verb ‘NaFoL, means to fall down, to be downed, to come down---and in no way ‘giants.’ … Instead of being congratulated on my linguistic acumen, I was harshly reprimanded. ‘Sitchin, sit down!’ the teacher hissed with repressed anger: ‘You don’t question the Bible!’ I was deeply hurt… for I was not questioning the bible… I was pointing out the need to understand it accurately. And that was what changed my life’s direction to pursue the Nefilim. Who were they, and who were their ‘Mighty Men’ descendants?... And so, starting with one word (Nefilim), I told the tale of the Anunnaki, ‘Those who from Heaven to Earth came’---space travelers and interplanetary settlers who came from their troubled planet to Earth in need of gold, and ended up fashioning The Adam in their image. In doing so I brought them to life…
“I have been asked at times where my interests would have taken me were the teacher to compliment rather than reprimand me. In truth, I have asked myself a different question: What if indeed ‘there were giants upon the Earth, in those days AND THEREAFTER TOO’?... Why did the compilers of the Hebrew Bible, which is totally devoted to monotheism, include the bombshell verses in the prehistoric record---and what were their sources? I believe that I have found the answer… I conclude in this book---my crowning oeuvre---that compelling physical evidence for past alien presence on Earth has been buried in an ancient tomb. It is a tale that has immense implications for our genetic origins---a key to unlocking the secrets of health, longevity, life, and death; it is a mystery whose unraveling will take the reader on a unique adventure and finally reveal what was held back from Adam in the Garden of Eden.”
He wrote, “I have suggested that ‘the Great Deep,’ where the ‘South Storm’ originated was Antarctica; and that the Deluge was a huge tidal wave caused by the slippage of the ice sheet off Antarctica---causing the abrupt end of the last Ice Age circa 13,000 years ago.” (Pg. 57) Later, he adds, “The elimination of that ‘ice box,’ I have suggested, caused the abrupt end of the last Ice Age circa 13,000 years ago.” (Pg. 91)
He asserts, “a fundamental tenet of Sumerian history and teachings was that Kingship was ACTUALLY, and not just figuratively, brought down to Earth from the heavens---that the Anunnaki … actually began their civilized presence on earth in five settlements… the connection between those first of Cities of the Gods and the bringing down of civilization to Earth from the heavens is restated in several other Sumerian documents dealing with pre-Diluvial events. Two of the key documents can be seen … [in] the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology in Oxford, England… among the objects it houses are two priceless archaeological finds of utmost importance to the history of Mankind and our planet; and both record the Deluge… They, or copies of them, in all probability served as a source for the writings of Berossus.” (Pg. 84-85)
He states, “Enki and his crew of fifty had come to Earth… for the purpose of obtaining gold… The plan was to extract the gold from the waters of the Persian Gulf. But when this did not work, a change to deep mining had to be undertaken… Enki’s tasks shifted to a new location called ‘Ab.zu’ … which literally read means ‘Place of shining metal.’ … [It] this meant the place from whose depths the shining metal---gold---was obtained… Aralia … as in southeastern Africa---a gold-mining region to this day.” (Pg. 97-98)
He states, “The notion of space travel is no longer relegated to science-fiction alone… Some savants even dare acknowledge that life, even like ours, might exist ‘somewhere’ in the vast universe… But such sentient beings… so the argument goes---could never visit us … because the nearest possible place … where such life could exist is ‘light-years away’… But what if such a compatible planet were to exist much closer---say, in our own solar system… That is not a theoretical question, because that is precisely what we are told by the ancient texts…” (Pg. 101)
He says, “By treating /Enuma elish’ as a sophisticated cosmogony and not as an allegorical tale… we have obtained a coherent explanation for many puzzles in our Solar System and explain the incredibly fast appearance of life on Earth---and the compatibility between the Anunnaki and the Daughters of Man. The Bible, I suggest, has done the same.” (Pg. 122)
He argues, “Our neighbor Mars, considered just decades ago a lifeless planet since its birth, is now known… to have had a proper atmosphere… flowing water, rivers… It is noteworthy that in ‘The 12th Planet’ we had already provided evidence that a habitable Mars served the Anunnaki as a way station for the interplanetary spacecraft from and to Nibiru; it was there that the Igigi were stationed, their task to operate smaller shuttlecraft between Earth and Mars.” (Pg. 134)
He observes, “We shall never know the name… of the hominid whose [DNA] was used by Ninmah in the genetic mixture for creating the gods’ Workman; with the repeated trial and error, more than one hominid were involved. But we do know---due to additional cuneiform tablet discoveries---whose godly ‘essence’ or bloodline was used in the process.” (Pg. 164)
He contends, “The reader knows by now that Genesis 6:4 does not say ‘giants’---it says ‘Nefilim’ … In retrospect, I realized that the teacher did not invent the ‘giants’ interpretation…. The scholars assigned by King James I … to translate the Hebrew Bible and the term ‘giants’ … They relied on earlier translations… The term ‘Nefilim’ … is used again in … Numbers 13:33 is the tale of the scouts that Moses sent ahead to scout Canaan… The singular ‘Anak’ is also rendered in the plural, ‘Anakim,’ in Deut 1:28 and 9:2… those verses equate the Nefilim with the Anakm, they also depict the latter … as giantlike” (Pg. 198-199)
He says, “we have stopped here and there … to (a) point out misconceptions stemming from mistranslations, and (b) to highlight instances where the Hebrew is a literal rendering of a Sumerian term… in the tale of fashioning Eve out of Adam’s rib…the Hebrew redactor must have taken the Sumerian Word ‘Ti’ to mean ‘rib’ correctly, except that a similarly pronounced word ‘Ti’ in Sumerian meant ‘Life’… What was done was to take that which is ‘Life’---DNA---from the Adam and manipulate it to obtain to a female genetic chromosome… Not a ‘soul,’ but durability, as added to Ziusudra’s life.” (Pg. 246-247)
He notes, “In the biblical context, the crucial change in the realm of demigods from pre-Diluvia times can be summed up by us in a simple statement: Before, the sons of the gods ‘chose whichever they wanted from among the daughters of Man.’ Now the daughters of gods chose whichever they wanted from the sons of Men.” (Pg. 261)
He explains, “The ‘immortality’ of the Anunnaki gods… was in reality a great longevity that can be attributed to their Nibiruan life cycle. The notion of gods (or even demigods) as immortals has come to us with Greece;’ the discovery of Canaanite ‘myths’ at their capital Ugarit… showed where the Greeks got the idea…. In Sumer, the death of gods was as accepted as tales of their being born. The question it, Where are they buried?” (Pg. 327)
He concludes, “I have done my best to show that there is no conflict between Bible and Science, Faith and Knowledge. The [Missing] ‘Link’ is missing I said, because someone jumped the gun on Evolution and used sophisticated genetic engineering to upgrade a Homo erectus … by mixing his genes with THEIR advanced genes. Review of Sitchin’s There Were Giants Upon the Earth: Gods, Demigods, and Human Ancestry: The Evidence of Alien DNA
Unlike some other books I read with this hypothesis, this one did not read like a science fiction movie. And unlike some other books I read with similar ideas, this one for the most part did not overinterpret the available evidence. That is, until the very end of the subtitle.
So yes overall good, well researched, and surprisingly well written. Sitchin took a logical, step by step approach in building his case.
The first evidence of the “DNA seeding” from Nibiru, though stated as a legend, is obvious. The Earth is gashed and deep under the Pacific Ocean. The asteroid belt exists. And we have since discovered that small organic molecules, like amino acids and nucleotides do exist on asteroids.
He uses known museum artifacts, established lists of “kings”, research already published by others¸ and his own interpretations of Sumerian cylinder seals to build his case. Importantly many of the lists and research from other sources compliment and agree with each other. The “God” part and “demigod” part are therefore well established.
The Alien DNA is not as well established. The records/legends/myths whatever you want to call them do suggest man was created, and yes likely from Homo erectus (or perhaps H.heidelbergesis?). The geography of the fossils matches too, so still good. He mentions finds of giant human fossils (most of which are now missing). And yes, there are 223 “Human accelerated (or unique)” genes; he even mentions the peer reviewed Science paper for his proof. But it is a stretch to suggest they are alien without dismissing gene duplications, then mutation with selection, mutation with founders’ effect or genetic drift, a pseudo gene reverting to active gene, to name a few “earthly” hypotheses that have to be ruled out. Of course, as Sitchin suggests in the postscript the actual way to do it would be to sequence those genes (or better yet the whole genome), and the mtDNA from Nin.Puabi. (Disclosure: I actually discussed this with Dr. Sitchin, mentioning I would like to help with that if the university I was at opened their forensic DNA lab as planned; alas they did not). To my knowledge, 10 years after the publication of this book, there still has not been permission granted for DNA sampling and analysis of Nin.Puabi. Maybe as Sitchin and others have suggested, the data would show something (like he is correct about the alien DNA?)

I literally run into a couple of individuals one night having a discussion about anthropology and publishing. One of the individuals recommends the text which actually reminds me of another text I remember wanting to read nearly a decade ago due to my curiosity of Biblical proportions. Reading There Were Giants Upon the Earth: Gods, Demigods, and Human Ancestry: The Evidence of Alien DNA makes aspects of the Bible rounder which I find interesting since after an edit or translation, an ancient/historical text can be quite different than an original version of the ancient/historical text—a source text. All in all, I find the text to be an interesting walk through of an anthropological perspective.

The author asserts that the Bible’s Elohim were the Gods of Sumer, Babylon, and Ancient Egypt – the Anunnaki who had come to earth from their planet, Nibiru. Through the original Hebrew bible, Sumerian cuneiform tablets, and ancient hieroglyphs, Sitchen provides conclusive physical evidence for alien presence on Earth in the ancient past, with a scientific opportunity to trach down the “Missing Link” in humanity’s evolution that we were genetically engineered by adding Anunnaki genes to those of an existing hominid, some 300,000 years ago.

I have always been curious about the theory of the Annunaki and this book does not disappoint though it is greatly detailed and some readers may find the material quite dry and hard to work through. The main premise is that a group of alien beings called the Annunaki came to Earth looking for gold to preserve their planet, and basically "hot wired" the human race by creating hybrid workers with Annunaki genes mixed with whatever hominid existed at the time. According to Zecharia Sitchin, the Annunaki were the ancient Gods of ancient Sumer and Babylon and intermarried with the resulting hybrid workers to create the human race of today. It is very obvious that Sitchin knows the material he is discussing; mainly Sumerian cuneiform and Mesopotamian iconography and his interpretation and hypothesis is interesting to say the least. Am I convinced? No, but I have to admit that it would be fascinating to find out DNA results of the bodies found in the Royal Tombs of Ur. I received a copy of this book from the publisher (thank you so much for your patience and allowing me to read such a fascinating book) via Netgalley for free in exchange for an honest review.

Sitchin's Earth Chronicles series provide evidence indicating that biblical references to the Anakim or Annunaki of Sumerian records are the giants of Old Testament scripture. One of his simplest explanations for the translation is found in The Book of Numbers (chapter 13) describing the journey of men whom Moses sent ahead to scout the Canaan region. Upon returning they told Moses that they did “…see the giants, the sons of Anak—the Nephilim…and we were like grasshoppers in our eyes,and so we were in their eyes.”

Not for everyone...Like all Sitchin book this book re-hashes much of his case (world view) that ancient gods were spacemen.
He gets into "giants" some two-hundred pages in. That's where I am now. So far he makes some interesting assertions. As usual his interesting points are followed up by additional layers of conjecture and speculation.
I'm not actually DONE the book because I started skipping around to different sections...I'm never going to "finish" the book.
Okay book for previous Sitchin readers...might be more appealing to someone new to Sitchin's world...and lets be real, this is Sitchin doing a great deal of speculating based in some interesting observations...even so it's great to see where his mind goes.

Masih baca buku ini, baru nyampe akhir Bab I kesimpulan yg bisa diambil : Alexander the Great bukanlah Zulkarnain yang disebut dalam Al-Qur'an. Hati2 klo baca buku ini, jgn lsg ditelan mentah2 fakta yg diuraikan di dalamnya, pengarang bermaksud menggiring pembaca untuk mempercayai setiap analisisnya yg klo diliat sekilas hampir ilmiah namun gak dijelasin darimana dia dapetin info analisisnya. Sisa reviewnya nanti deh ya tunggu saya baca habis buku ini ^o^

While I found the history and the comparative mythology very intriguing, it really bothered me that he didn't list his sources - no end notes or anything, so even if some of his ideas are plausible at the least, the lack of sources kind of buttresses his "quack" status. And he seems to have untangled a little bit too much of the, um, gods' personal lives as well. I would probably still enjoy other of his books, though, as I found this one interesting and well written.

while the premise seems quite far fetched and downright moronic it is an interesting read. I enjoy the comparisons of the kings list and patriarchal names and the way they all come out the same in a certain light. I wouldn't recommend the book but it was amusing
