Featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show . “This book is certainly blissful to look at...inspirational. It is full of lush, soft-focus photographs of women running businesses.”— The Wall Street Journal. “Entrepreneurs who daydream about converting a hobby into a career should consult The Business of Bliss. ”— USA Today.
Beautifully laid out, gorgeous pictures, high in feel good, uplifting stories, low on details; this book reminds me of the house buying meme “she sells small batch designer dental floss, he recreates famous statues in cheese. Our budget is six million dollars.” All of the stories in this book of women following their bliss to create a successful business skip over point B between A and C - “Jane went to a craft fair, took in $75,000 worth of orders and Next thing she knew, she was opening a store…” hold the phone. How does one even sell that much at a craft fair?!?! How does one just oopsie I opened a store selling a really obscure, eclectic thing and have it be successful?!?!?! While the book is obviously not offering business planning assistance, it’s selling a dangerous fantasy that one can just tumble out of bed and decide to launch a new business - especially when that entails taking out loans or emptying one’s saving account to do so. This book is best suited for folks who want to read uplifting, inspirational, feel good, Blurred-edge stories of folks succeeding in following their dreams or as a coffee table book for the gorgeous photos. But don’t look for any concrete guidance on how build a concrete plan for building an income out of your own dreams.
I love this book. Again the original "Victoria Magazine" inspired a lot of women to do things that they hadn't been doing, and starting their own businesses was one of them. I love this book because you get to see creative businesses and not the same ole copycat small businesses.
Great if you are interested in starting your own business and need some creative ideas from other women. If you're familiar with the magazine "Victoria" then you will love the visuals and writing style (from the same production co.)
It's a little outdated since it's from 1999 and online sales were not so popular but it's inspirational to read stories of all these women who succeeded in doing what they loved full time:)
