Daedalus Rising - The True Story of Icarus

Rate this book
Long ago, Daedalus invented wings, showing us it could be done. He made two pair of them, one for himself and one for his son. It was a truly wonderful gift.

The old legend tells of a father and son flying together, out over the sea on a beautiful warm day long ago, and of a story of loss that Daedalus told when he finished the flight. We seem to have collectively decided to stay on the ground ever since, but why? There was so much more to the story that Daedalus did not tell.

Daedalus Rising completes the myth, telling The True Story of Icarus and revealing an ancient mystery whose time has finally come.

Daedalus Rising brings to light what really happened in the sky that day, recasting and recreating the meaning of an old myth through the telling of the story of a son's quest and of the father who cared deeply about him.

It is a story of initiation and growth, and of the power of wings.

A twist on the classic myth that explores the relationship between Daedalus and Icarus as well as the growth of Daedalus and what inspires him to create the wings and fly.

I didn't like him very much and his motivations often irritated me but his brilliance and love for his adopted son gave him redemption as did the 'twist' on the myth

i really did like this book. it surprised me. at first, i balked at the idea of expanding on a perfectly good myth, but the author does a good job of staying true to the original story while expanding on it and creating a whole new story which explains the myth. i know that is confusing. you just have to read it to understand what i just said.
