This book is incredibly full of information about butterflies. It shares the life of the butterfly and how it starts. This would be a great educational science tool to teach students this unit, and then to also have a hands on activity afterwards to allow the students to really see a caterpillar transform to a butterfly by bringing a caterpillar in to the class.

Review
I have a love for butterflies so that may be why I enjoyed this simple informational book about butterflies. The pictures are really amazing and the text is very informational. This book would be great when teaching about nature and where butterflies come from. It even tells a lot about the life of a caterpillar and how it eats it own skin. This is a book for developing reader grades 1-2 grade.

Summary
First the book starts with the different colors butterflies can have. But where so they come from? Eggs is that the book goes into next, but a butterflies don't hatch from eggs a caterpillar does. The caterpillar eat and eats and will molt and shed it own skin. This will happen a couple of times but the 3rd time the skin will form around the caterpillar and make a pupa, where it stays for a while. When it comes out you have a butterfly and the process happens all over again.

This bright book attracts the attention though the bold and contrasting colors. From the moment we open the book we embark on a journey of the life of a butterfly from the time they are born. We also learn how and what they eat, how and where they lay their eggs and what types of butterflies there are out there. As if it were not enough to give us facts about them we are slso taken on a beautiful journey owf what a butterfly looks like.

This is a good book for a butterfly unit because it goes through great detail on how a caterpillar grows and then turns into a butterfly. It is easy to read with details on the stages of a caterpillar and butterflies life. It has a lot of information and the students will be able to read it and do activities with them.

I loved how educational this book is. I also loved looking at all the different pictures of the butterflies.
Activity: I would have the children write/draw about what they would do with their feet if they had taste buds on them!

A great, accessible introduction to butterflies for the younger set! Bishop's amazing photos are really highlighted here and it's amazing to read about everything he did to get some of his shots.
