Percy is sleeping when he hears a rumble. He opens his eyes and sees a giant yellow dragon! But dragons aren’t real, are they? Maybe it was a dream! The next day he shares his fears with James and Thomas and learns the truth about what it was that he saw. A Step 1 Book
Wilbert Vere Awdry, OBE, better known as the Rev. W. Awdry, was an English clergyman, railway enthusiast and children's author, and creator of Thomas the Tank Engine, who starred in Awdry's acclaimed Railway Series.
The characters that would make Awdry famous, and the first stories featuring them, were invented in 1943 to amuse his son Christopher during a bout of measles. The first book (The Three Railway Engines) was published in 1945, and by the time Awdry stopped writing in 1972, The Railway Series numbered 26 books. Christopher subsequently added further books to the series.
Thomas’ ghost perhaps is a devil or the woman he marries in the future haunting his womb until he may bear or be fallow enough to birth his little dragon brood: not all have this grace it is a rare gift for other dragon peoples to be told in person that you are skin of scales and blood of gold sulphuric acids-
Percy wakes up to a loud rumble & sees a Dragon! This terrifies him and he tries to tell his fellow engines about it the next day.
Sadly this book wasn't well received with the kiddos. While we love Thomas & frequently enjoy his books, this one fell short. Despite being an easy read, for young readers as well, the story was lacking. The end fell flat & the kids were disappointed. No one was interested in a 2nd read through.

I appreciate that this book had more plot compared to other Thomas and Friends books, but this series just isn’t that engaging for me.
I prefer the Step Into Reading versions of the Thomas & Friends series because I enjoy the big font, more modern illustrations, and quicker story pace. That being said, the Thomas & Friends series is fine enough, but it just isn’t engaging for me. It feels outdated and I think the illustrations are very repetitive and the trains look rather creepy.
Our two year old loves that it has his favorite Thomas characters and then throw in a dragon, whoah! Then our five yer old liked reading through it and understood the message at the end of talking about something that scares you.
Frank was a bit frustrated, because this is an easy reader, and therefore had the story dumbed down a little. He still loved it, just wished it had more of the original dragon story in it.
