For a book called "Panther!" with a big picture of a panther on the front and a blurb bigging up how cool panthers are, there sure aren't a lot of panthers in it.
Following a nervous movie producer who decides to use live panthers in a publicity stunt to promote his flop film which risks sinking the studio, "Panther!" is sold as an animal attack thriller, but in reality has its focus squarely on the impact the failed stunt has on people behind it. The cats don't even escape until over halfway through, and then the majority are killed "off screen". When I realised I'd read more crap sex scenes than I'd read scenes of dudes being mauled by panthers, I was pretty much done with this one.
It'd be fine if the characters we followed were somewhat interesting, but they're all incredibly dull and the story is boilerplate stuff. That's to be expected in a lot of these types of books, but only because it's usually just there to string together a series of kill scenes, not to be the focus of the novel.
Rubbish, and not even so bad it's good way, just terminally dull.
