I was so hoping that this book was going to equal or surpass a great Royal IVF mix up story that I read a few days ago. Unfortunately, it did not. I was so disappointed. This one was quite on the ridiculous side. I was so put off by the repetition of the heroine not wanting love....because her dad left the family and her mom was worthless. Again, I say, does this mean every family member and everyone you meet in the world is going to cause you pain...apparently it does! Does it mean that in order to have a child by IVF and love it more than anything that you must not love anyone else so that you can 'save up' that love for your child only? I didn't realize we had an internal love-o-meter to show us when our love was used up. Good thing she wasn't having quads or there wouldn't
have been enough to go around. What would you do if you loved your baby's father and there wasn't enough love left for your baby?!! Truthfully, that was the most ignorant thing I have heard of in a long time. If you are having a child your love supply will run out, your love tank goes to E and there is nothing left.

The hero had his own hangups. He was a widower and his wife had been unable to give him children. He continued to love her but when she felt like such a failure due to her infertility she closed herself off to him and yet he remained faithful and devoted. In fact, she took it out on him even though she was the one infertile. She died after their last try at IVF in an accident. So we all know that he can never love again because that woman/wife might die, too.

I say run, don't walk away from this book. It was not worth a free afternoon of my time. I wanted to hurl. I should have gone by a friend's review but, no, I had to see for myself!

I should also mention that the progress of this story moved along very slowly and I was frequently tempted to skip until I found something interesting. Also, it talked as though the hero was a man used to being with a lot of different beautiful woman, then later it tells us he has not been with anyone but his wife for the seven years they were married and the two years since her death. That was confusing, to say the least.

Alison is a career woman who is deathly afraid of relationship. She decided to get pregnant artificially. Everything would have gone splendidly if there wasn't a mix-up at the clinic, and now she is carrying Maximo's child. She went to let him know about it, but she didn't expect his reaction to the news. He expects her to marry him so that they could raise the child together.

Prince Maximo Rossi has given up any hope of having a wife and children after his (IMO) disastrous marriage. His honour is not the only reason he wants to marry Alison. He wants his child. But he has problems accepting the fact that he's falling for her. But he still doesn't lash out which is a good thing.

I like how Alison didn't just bow to Maximo's wishes. She considered every aspect and only when she was certain it was the best thing for her child, she agreed to marry him. We also have Maximo who let her see not only the prince, but the man inside as well.

As long as you don't consider the impossibility of the plot, the story is pretty good, but not good enough for 5 stars. I also had a small problem with Maximo, I didn't like him much, don't get me wrong he was okay, but nothing special.

Maisey Yates takes the royal and sperm-bank mix-up themes and combines them in a very satisfactory manner with An Accidental Birthright.

Things I Liked:

*I liked that Max wasn't an over-the-top, arrogant uber-alpha type. He was more on the beta end of the scale, which didn't make him a pushover. He was a nice guy. Although he was born royal, he had a huge work ethic and really cared about his country and his people. I liked that he never disrespected Alison. He showed her a lot of consideration, and was quite long-suffering with her issues. I feel that his marriage damaged him emotionally, because he took on too much blame for his deceased wife's emotional immaturity.
*I found myself identifying with Alison to a scary degree, which was a wake-up call to me. She tended to hold onto her fears of commitment a bit too much, and it was almost frustrating for me to see her be so dogmatic about her determination not to be involved. I did like Alison a lot. She was a strong woman who set a plan in motion for her life, and stuck to it, even through the hardships she faced.
*I liked that both Max and Alison were deep and complex individuals, not just the usual stand-ins that might popular a book of this type, and how they had to get past their respective fears and issues to realize that they weren't just going to be parents together, but that they loved each other truly and belonged together.
*I liked the passion and the emotion of this love story.
*Ms. Yates has a clear, modern, unique writing style, but she gives the reader of HPs what is classic and desired in this line of books, at the same time.

The only thing that I didn't like as much was the roller-coaster that Alison was on with her fears of involvement. I thought it was very cowardly of her to want a celibate marriage in which her husband would be given the go-ahead to cheat on her. I can't see a logical woman standing for that when she had good chemistry and liking for her spouse. I could understand her fears, but I wish she had not taken so long to give herself the opportunity to be loved as a woman after so many years of loneliness with a really good guy like Max. As far as Max, I didn't like that he was determined not to love Alison. I can understand him feeling wounded by his last marriage, but he was given a gift of a child, and a good woman to love and to marry. I felt that he should have been a little braver about taking that chance for a happy future.

Other than the overlong angst and waffling of the characters, I really enjoyed reading this love story. I'd give it 4.25/5.0 .

Alison Whitman was elated when she saw the pink line confirming her pregnancy, her carefully planned entry to motherhood was going smoothly until she recieved a call from the clinic she recieved the donation from. It appeared that the donation she recieved, was the wrong donor, in fact he wasn't a donor at all.

Widower Maximo Rossi, Prince of Turan is stunned by the woman who has asked him to undergo a genetic test for the child she is carrying. All of his hopes of becoming a parent felt like lost dreams when his wife died, now he has renewed hope. Maximo quickly ensues himself into Alison's life and his first plan of action is to get her to marry him and keep her in his bed.

Enjoyable story, I liked this one quite a bit. You felt for both characters as they begin to fall for each other but try denying it, even to themselves.

Fascinating story! Alison and Max have intense chemistry, it literally leaps off the pages! Their personalities compliment each other perfectly and I found myself really drawn into the story from the outset! Max is a heartbroken widowed prince whose dream of having a child died with the death of his wife. Alison is a career woman independent and desperate to become a single mother. Thanks to an IVF clinic mix-up Alison is now carrying the royal heir and according to Max their marriage is now inevitable.

I loved the honorable and moody prince Maximo and the inexperienced but very strong-willed Alison. This was a delightful love story!

Review notes
- published in 2011
- very similar to another book i've read before that I thought I read it before. I had to check if I read this one already. The unexpected child by Andrea Laurence which is about a wealthy CEO instead of a prince.
- Despite him being a prince, she really doesn't care for him and only focus on if he's the best father for their child
-she's very strong and independent (a lawyer for a pro bono firm)
- she's a virgin
- she's determined to figure out if the prince has this health condition that can impact the child because she had a sister who had it and watched her pass away (cystic fibrosis)
- She doesn't want to marry him because she knows what it's like to be a divorced woman who may lose everything in the divorce but agrees that marriage to be the best option so they can save their son from being a bastard
- She doesn't want a sexual relationship because she's scared about intimacy but she's very conservative and very frustrating sometimes. She really was scared of her own sexuality and looked down upon herself for her body looking good when she developed during her pregnancy.
- slow burn romance where NOTHING happens even till 80% in
- over all a little too slow burn for my taste

All Alison wanted was to be a mother. Having seen the devastation caused by the divorce of her parents, she’s never allowed herself to get close enough to a man to experience a serious relationship, let alone to marry and have children. For the past several years, she’s prepared herself mentally, financially, and physically to undergo an IVF procedure to fertilize one of her eggs with the sperm of a carefully selected donor. When the procedure finally succeeds, she’s horrified to learn that a mixup at the IVF clinic has resulted in her being impregnated not by the anonymous donor she’d selected, but by another man entirely. Since Alison is a carrier for the Cystic Fibrosis gene, she knows she must contact this man in order to find out if he’s ever been screened, and if her unborn child is at risk of contracting the terrible disease that took her sister at an early age.

Years ago, Maximo and his now-deceased wife longed for a child. When tests revealed that she would require fertility treatments, he was quick to donate in order to fertilize his wife’s eggs. After a tragic accident took the life of his young wife, he never contacted the clinic to dispose of his sperm, and now due to a mixup, Alison has been impregnated, and he’s going to be a father!

Unbeknown to Alison, Maximo isn’t just a random stranger — he’s the crown prince of Turan! Now she must marry this stranger, else her child will be born a royal bastard, complete with the social stigma and denial of his or her birthright and inheritance.

Although the premise was one that I’d never read before, it was still pretty standard HP fare. A virgin heroine, marriage for the sake of the baby, middle-class heroine, super rich/powerful hero, and a hero who refused to fall in love because he’d been emotionally drained and damaged from his previous marriage. That said, the simple fact that the pregnancy came before Max and Alison had even met made this one much more intriguing. Add to that the fact that Alison wanted to keep Max at a distance, both physically and emotionally, and I found this a very entertaining read. I really enjoyed Ms. Kates’ writing style, and was very glad to discover that Max’s sister, Isabella, also gets her own story.

A very cheerful 4/5 Stars

Reading the blurb on the back cover of this book, I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy reading the whole IVF thing…but I loved loved the cover…so I thought..why not???? Also I have enjoyed reading some of Maisey Yates’s books.

This is quite a different plot from the usual secret pregnancy in that the heroine, Allison Whitman has never met the baby’s father and she became pregnant, after longing for years to be a mother has chosen to do it the IVF way. She did this not only because of the pain that her parents’ divorce caused but also has never met a man that she wanted to marry…she’s a career orientated She has selected the donor and is horrified to discover that she had been impregnated by an anonymous donor when a mix-up occurred during the operation. She has to contact the donor to ensure that her baby is not a risk due to a gene she carries.

Maximo Rossi had longed for a child but his wife had been unable to have children so they had decided to fertilize her eggs with his sperm but unfortunately she had died before they could do it and he had never contact the clinic to have his sperm donation destroyed….resulting in Allison’s problem.
When Max discovers he has a child he immediately gets things going. He cannot allow his child to be born illegitimately ….he is after all the crown prince of Turan!
He blackmails Allison into marrying him even though they don’t even know each other but also that they have to put the child first.
Allison tries not to allow herself to get close to Max and gives him a real hard time before she relents. I can’t believe how she did it though…I mean, the man is titled and gorgeous and a fantastic artist as well. How did it take her so long before she realized what a hot and great guy she had!!!!!

Maisey Yates writes surprising and admirable books… story lines that make you think and feel differently about finding your HEA..such as
A Mistake, a Prince and a Pregnancy by Maisey Yates one of my favorite books which I have reviewed http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/10...

She just a way of writing about tortured, dark heroes and damaged heroines that despite their flaws are able to find love and each other.

After a “bumpy” beginning with one of the first books I read by this author....which I absolutely hated …….I do admit that I am now a Maisey Yates fan for life!!!!!!

Historia sencillita y algo vista.

A 'whoops' moment which could have had dire and tragic results ends up bringing together two emotionally injured people giving them a second chance they didn’t realize they needed.

I enjoyed the switch in roles that the author provided. Alison is the one in the story that has everything planned, plotted and controlled in her life. She is driven, focused and a perfectionist. As I read, I realized that the heroine has a huge chip on her shoulder from her life growing up and it’s charted her life’s course. She has rationalized and justified everything she’s done or felt and sees no reason why she can’t continue. A mark of her personality’s strength is her facing the facts when they overwhelmingly present themselves to her in all their ugly truth. She isn’t in control, in fact she’s been running away so hard, so fast that she finally ran into a brick wall.

That solid wall has the name of Max. He’s not your average businessman and he’s got that alpha thing going on at first glance. Second glance shows a hero whose heart has been damaged and who now believes the pain of loving and losing is too high a price to ever attempt it again. He is a man who takes commitment so seriously and feels deeply so when things start to make him feel again, he comes a bit unglued. Max also has a lot more at stake when Alison drops her bombshell. He’s royalty and it comes with its own baggage that can have devastating results. It’s not easy being him nor was it easy to lose his dreams. How he reacted to Alison, his actions after and the things he said and did really made me like him and had me wanting him to find happiness within Alison’s arms. But man, did she make him work for it.

I found the story tender and sweet, especially when Max finally opened up to Alison. The scene on the island was especially poignant. I felt bad about his parents but his reaction and the position he took showed me a man who stood up for what he knew was right and didn’t bow to outside pressure - definitely hero material. The only thing that could have made this story a bit better was less internal dialogue that bordered on narrative and a bit more interactive dialogue between the characters to keep the pace up. As it was I felt it sort of dragged at places.

The conflict is strictly internal with hardly any secondary characters to muddy the romance. The basic crisis was of two people from very diverse backgrounds being forced to get along because of one important connection that bound the two together. I enjoyed the fact that they had to get to know each other as people first before Alison succumbed to Max’s seduction. It made the physical side of their relationship more relevant and meaningful for me.

An Accidental Birthright is an entertaining romance I enjoyed reading. I liked how Alison and Max’s relationship progressed. It felt natural and imperfect, meaning they had to work at it which for me added value to the happily ever after. I got a kick out of how the author had the hero and heroine meet and I found it quite sentimental in how they reached their happily ever after. If readers are looking for a character driven romance then I think they’ll be pleased with An Accidental Birthright. Alison and Max are worth getting to know.

My heart is total jelly. Sweeeeeet and comforting read. Highly recommend for a gloomy day when you can snuggle in and just read for the whole day.

Allison and Max had a sperm bank mix up and were now working things out to have this baby. The way Max takes care of Allison was totally my undoing. This man was confident and assertive and totally didn’t let a minute’s doubt unnerve him or change his mind about Alison and her apparent “story” of this mix up. Their love for each other grows and I adored how he started getting territorial about his baby and his woman. Sweet, realistic epilogue.

Will read again!

Okay so I love love love this. This makes me all soft and gushy. Both H and h are great. They were not perfect, but their imperfections made this book great. One of my favourite! Wanting more great things in the epilogue but it's great as it is.

I needed something really romantic, so I went for this book.

Reading the plot summary captured my interest as it told a new and original twist on the lovestory of a very modern-time couple. I was curious so I picked it up, and I'm not sorry I did.

Though I cannot give this book five stars under any pretence, seeing as how I expected something much better from such a plot twist, I really enjoyed reading it. It was light, and romantic, with a hint of darkness and angst. The characters were real and likeable, the settings - exotic and dreamlike (made me imagine lying on white sandy beeches under the blistering sun with a crystal-blue sea lapping at my feet. I almost heard the breeze and breathed in the sweet aroma of summer in the tropics, the descriptions were that good).

This is not an ordinary Modern Mills & Boon - its original and easy to enjoy, so if you're a fan of the genre, you might want to try it out - it might just surprise you.

Make no mistake, although this is by Maisey, it's such an early work of hers that the stuff that makes her books hers is pretty much non-existent. If I were her I'd want this freshman effort hidden. Stock characters, telling instead of showing, flimsy pretexts, no inner life, no true romance. Plus, very strangely, an INCREDIBLY sexist, even mysoginistic look at one young female character who, despite being a princess in a Monoco-style kingdom, has absolutely no experience shopping, being in public, or dealing with paparazzi, and is just TSTL. Because, get this, her parents are prepping her for marriage with a middle eastern prince. (I guess nobody told Maisey how sophisticated and intelligent many middle eastern women are.)

All I can say is i'm glad I don't live in HPlandia and need IVF because chances are I will end up with some random guys alpha sperms impregnating me and an angry husband!
Seriously why haven't these clinics been closed down or investigated? Because this seems to happen a lot and I wouldn't trust these establishments with my eggs for any reason!
She needs to get over herself a bit and he needs to take his neurotic dead wife of the pedestal he put her on and both move on with their lives.
I usually love Maisey Yates books but i'm over mixed up sperm stories!

I haven't read a Harlequin in years. I picked this up just to have something to read.
UGH, Were they always just about how the h/h felt about each other?
Yes, Maximo was a different hero, and Allison had some depth, but thats about it. But when they were together it is just hundreds of impressions about how they felt about each other.
I found myself fast forwarding through all of this.
Maybe I just didn't like the voice of the narrator Laurence Bouvard. I really didn't like the accents she gave the royal family.

I was not particularly enamoured of the 'sperm bank mixup' trope: but leaving that aside, this was another great read from Maisey Yates.

She creates great characters and Max and Allison were fabulous! So right for each other but of course they had to go through several trials and tribulations before getting there. I love the focus that Maisey puts on the emotional and human in her books and the way she builds a credible world to lose oneself in.

Thoroughly enjoyable and immensely satisfying. Looking forward to max's sister's story!

The story begins with the heroine Alison visiting the hero Maximo to inform him that she is pregnant with his child. She doesn't realise that Maximo is a prince. Alison had a traumatic time growing up after her younger sister passed away and her father walked out on Alison and her mother. As a result Alison doesn't want anything to do with love or relationships and decided to have a baby by artificial insemination, however a mix up at the clinic caused the wrong donation to be given. She makes the decision to tell Maximo as she is a carrier for Cystic Fibrosis, which her sister suffered from, and needs to ascertain if Maximo is also a carrier.
Maximo is both shocked and angry when he first learns of the mistake, he is also suspicious of Alison. His wife passed away two years ago, before that they had been going through infertility treatment, unsuccessfully. Maximo realises that he has been blessed with the second chance of having the child he so desperately wanted. However due to his royal status he has to convince Alison to marry him, and comes up against all her issues regarding relationships.

I really enjoyed this book, the story was interesting and the characters were both well written and had great chemistry. The conflicts and emotions both characters faced were interesting.
I found it refreshing how Maisey Yates has managed to write a great Alpha-male character that you would expect of the Modern line, yet he was not a shameless playboy, which so many other books contain and, instead he was more grounded and believes in commitment, bravo! Alison was also a great character, she feisty and independent a real 21st century girl and definitely more relatable than the atypical doormat female character!
There were some great minor characters as well; Maximo's parents were a hoot, especially his snobby mother! And the jealous bitchy doctor, I would have liked to have seen more of her!

Alison was a very independent lady. She had to have control over her life. She always planned everything out. She planned to have her child. Her life was turned upside down when she found out the fertility clinic had made a mistake. They had switched her donation by mistake, and the file on the donation was missing important health information. She had no choice but to meet the father of her child.

To her surprise the father of her child was a prince. Maximo and his wife had tried for years to have a child. His wife ended up dying before they could have a child. When Alison told him she was pregnant with his child he knew he had been given another chance. He knew that the baby was a gift. He would not walk away from his child.

Both Alison and Maximo loved this child and would do anything for their child. The passion and chemistry between the couple was intense. This was defiantly a suspense novel. It took forever for the couple to act upon their fierce attraction to one another.

It seemed like what they couldn’t allow to happen, kept being repeated. Both were afraid of love, and losing control. One thing about love, it is an emotion that no one can control. This was good story. I’m giving it a 3, because it really annoys me when the author keeps repeating things throughout the book. It takes away from the story. Right away, you know what is going to happen later on.

Sample from chapter 2 – Desire twisted his stomach. He wanted her with an intensity that shocked him. And he wasn’t certain the pregnancy had anything to do with that. He wanted her as a man wanted a woman. It was as simple as that.
Sample from chapter 13- No, I didn’t choose you. You were chosen for me. I didn’t know what was best for me. I can only be thankful for divine intervention.

Maximo, sexy-wealthy-famous prince of Turan, don't know he could be father. He lost his wife in the car accident two years ago. Before that accident he and his wife went to IVF clinic to have a child and it was fail.He wanted a child but when thing turn out like that, his hope was gone.
Until one day There's a woman, named Alison, comes to meet him and claim he as a father of her child via IVF process. That IVF clinic may made a mistake but he don't want to lose this opportunity of having a child. And he would never abandon his child and the woman who carries his child, even it means he must marry her.

4 sweet star

I love this book. This is lovely, cute and sweet story about the man and woman who never lose control.Alison isn't a fragile woman. She isn't sweet, cute, or innocent. She's smart, strong and determined. She wants to be a mother without intention to marry or have a husband, so she decides to have IVF.I like her very much. She knows what she wants and does her way to have it.
Maximo is wealthy businessman and prince of Turan. He has everything in control. He has lost his first wife and he has no intention to marry again until he found that he has a child. This is a man with flaw.He isn't perfect prince charming. He is smart and strong but he's also caring.
This two is perfect together.

I quite enjoyed this story. I wasn't overly bound with the title but was intrigued by the synopsis.

When Alison approaches Maximo and explains about the mix up and she is pregnant with his child he immediately states that he wants to be an active parent in his childs life. In most stories the H usually then starts threatening legal action to obtain custody but Maximo realises that the child also need Alison in his/her life and therefore offers marriage although Alison is basically a stranger.

I struggled with Alison's character. I know that people have problems in their lives but found it a bit hard to believe that she would still have been a virgin and didn't want any sort of relationship due to issue's/problems she had seen with her parents. If she was a younger girl then I could have believed that but as a woman fast approaching 30 I couldn't quite get to grips with it. Having said all that I did enjoy the story and would read other material by Ms Yates
