I liked this book more than Beaten which was the first book I read in this series. The series is called "Surviving South Side" It's kind of like the Goosebumps series because there is a lot of books in the series but you don't have to read them in any kind of order. I liked this book, mainly because it focused on one character so I could get to know the character, even though it was so short. Also, another great message.

If I ever go to a book store and see a book in this series I will probably pick it up because of the great messages they give but I won't just go to a book store searching for them.

Cassie is a great singer; good enough everyone thinks she has a shot to make it big. She skips school one day to try out for a national competition, but after a day of waiting, she frustrated. Mr. King, a talent scout, approaches and tells her he wants to give her a chance. Too bad she didn't know he just wanted to get her naked.

I read this book at the request of a school librarian to see if it was appropriate for teens. This book is definitely age appropriate for middle school on up. There is nothing explicit or graphic. I am baffled as to why this book would be challenged. Teens that hate reading would like this short, quick, and realistic read.

Wish I could give this a negative rating—it’s like porn for child molesters, and it’s aimed at young kids! It’s not helpful or informative, it’s just gratuitous description of attempted rape of a child. Ugh.

Cassie is the best singer at school. She skips school to go try out for a national talent show. She dreams to be famous. But in the end will it all work out? In the middle she meets a boy and hears he's “looking at her” in that special way. She ends up lying and skipping rehearsals. Will the boy get in the way of her becoming famous and following her dreams?
In the book Shattered Star, it uses third person objective. It helps the reader understand what's going on and what's happening in the book. It is also helpful to know what the characters are thinking while an event is happening or what happened. For example on page 59 it gives several example of what the character is thinking while an event is happening it says “What would Hal think if he were here?” This is what the character is thinking while an event happens. Another example is on page, 17 it uses more parts of third person objective and this makes it much more easier to understand what's going on. Her feelings and all the emotions running around her head. It says, “I could never win!, Who am I kidding?” These parts of the book help us understand what's going on in the book easier.
Another element of this story was, the mood. Cassie has several different emotions and moods through this story. The mood sets the tone and gives you a clear visual as the author is talking about what's going on in the story at the time. For example On page 39, the character is nervous and anxious because of the event is happening and with the author including what the character thinks and is handling helps us understand what the character is feeling like in that moment and the mood/moods that are going on. The book says, “What if i told my parents what happened today?” “ They'd be mad” These show that the character is nervous and anxious. The mood helps understand the book better and what's going on.
This book is full of adventure and excitement. The plot twist and turn this book will always leave you on the edge of your seat! This is a great book to read for middle schoolers up. These parts of the book make it just as great, it uses strong moods that the character is feeling and lets you know what the character is feeling while an event is happening, Another thing that makes this book so great is that it uses things such as third person objective and can show you what the character is thinking and really make you feel like you are the character.

Over the summer I read Shattered Star by Charnan Simon. It was a really good book. It was a good book because it always kept me on the edge of my seat. There was no point in that book where I felt board. It always made me wanting to read more and more as each chapter went on. I never wanted to stop reading the book until I was finished. That's how good that book was.
I would definitely 100% recommend this book to someone else. Even though it was a bit easy to read it was still a good book. If I had to pick an age group for someone to read this book it would properly be at least twelve years old. I chose this age group because it talks about a girl being raped by a other man who tricked her into doing this. If it was any younger I don't know if they would be able to deal with it at that age. So that's why I chose this age group. I would also recommend this book because it teaches girls a lesson which is never to go with a stranger or to trust a stranger, and I think this book explains this lesson very well.
There was no part of the book that I didn't enjoy. I enjoyed every second of the book. That's how good the book was, well at least two me it was a good book. Overall the book was really good. I think the message of the book was never go with a stranger or never trust a stranger. If you where to pick up this book I think you have made a good chose.

The material in this book is much darker than the first two in the Surviving Southside series. This book has heavy topics that might not be suitable for all readers. Cassie is a gifted singer who wants to make it big. She has good intentions - her family won't be able to afford to send her to college, so she has to earn her own money - but she loses track of herself when she starts to lie to family and friends. Not only does she get caught in her lie and hurt those around her, she ends up hurt in the process.

In my school, we recently had a guest speaker that talked to students and faculty about the use of media and cell phones, and how one picture can ruin someone's life. In this book, Cassie learns that the hard way when a predator pretending to be a talent agent gets her to pose for pictures. In the process she nearly ends up a victim of rape.

Unlike the other books, Kadeem, Paige and Ty are out of the picture, possibly because they are seniors and Cassie is a junior. It would have been nice to see them make an appearance at least by name, to show more connection through the series.

This book is really cool
Shattered Star its about a girl named Cassie who wanted to be a famous Singer, when she arrives for the tryouts, the line is distressingly long. She'll miss work at a job that she needs if she waits. a man tells her that waiting is a waste of time and that he is conducting a talent search for his own agency for which Cassie has just the right look. Cassie falls for his line and eventually finds herself in a very dangerous situation: alone in a fake "studio" with an unscrupulous scam artist who demands that she submit to him physically or face harm. Ya'll Should Read this book is really interisting.

This is one of several books in the high interest low level reading series Surviving Southside. I would highly recommend this series to struggling readers in grades 7-12. The books in this series are 95-100 pages and boost the reader's confidence by numbering the first page of the novel as page 7. Large font size and wide margins along with an accessible reading level (390L) make this an inviting read for struggling readers. After reading several books in the series in order to be able to recommend them to students I am definitely bored with the predictable story line but see how this would make the text accessible to struggling readers.

This is another high/low book meaning it has high interest for older kids, but at a lower readability for struggling readers. The main characters are juniors in high school, but the readability is at a 4th-5th grade level. Cassie has a dream to become a singing superstar. When she gets discovered by an L.A. talent agent, she thinks all of her dreams have come true. However, Mr. Talent Agent has a lot more than singing on his mind. Although the language is appropriate for younger readers, the topics are more mature. I would recommend this book for struggling readers in grades 8+.

This book is amazing. I would recommended this to anyone, because it can teach you a lesson. In this book Cassie is a amazing singer and is the best in her glee club, but when she starts missing glee club to meet with this guy she thought was going to take her to the top. He tells her she has the look, but really he just wants the money and her. This book really teaches you have scary or hurtful the world really is, and that not everyone is who they say they are. I read this book so fast because it just kept making me want to keep reading. I recommend this book to everyone.

Honestly, I was dissapointed.

I thought I was going to read a book about a girl and her journey to stardom. Yet, what it was just didn't please me. AT ALL. I really wouldn't recommend this book because it was just down-right freaky. I admit after I finished the book I was scared. Luckily my parents taught me better than to trust a stranger. This is the only book I have ever given a 1 star rating

Another book from a hi-lo series for reluctant readers. High School junior Cassie auditions for an American Idol type show and meets a talent scout who promises her a shot at stardom. However, he is not who he appears to be and Cassie finds herself in a dangerous situation. A short, fast paced read with a clear reminder for students to be wary of strangers and to think before they get involved with people they don’t know. Recommended for struggling readers.

THIS WAS AN AWESOME BOOK!. It is a bout a girl named Cassie who is the best singer in Glee Club. She is recognized by a record producer from L.A. Cassie is lying and missing rehearsals to meet with him. Before her secrets spit out, she realizes that he isn't who she thinks he is. This book stayed very interesting. I finished it in ONE DAY!! The was a quick short read. It was a good book for what it was, essentially and After School Special in book form. I think it's a good read for middle schooler's even though it's set in a high school. The book is very succinct and gets the story across that it needs to. Don't be so quick to trust someone who can promises you the stars. Everyone has ulterior motives.

More of a short story than a complete book. It should appeal to the reluctant reader. Story is not very developed, but it does tell of the dangers of lying and making bad choices of pursuing a dream of being a star and compromising your values.

This book showed a great lesson. But I felt it was to short and rushed. The characters got on my nerves at times and I wasn't so thrilled by them. But besides that I like the life lesson in this book to never lie or do something bad for fame. 2 stars

It was a good book. I read it in one day. I liked that book because it was short and easy for me to finish in one day and get some last minute points. I knew at about the middle of the book that Hal was not a real person from L.A. I'm glad she was happy in the end to

A really quick read and I knew what was happening pretty much right away, its not an original idea I am sure I've seen it on a Law & Order episode at some point. It was still a good quick story. Not Bad.

This book by Charnan Simon was very well written. It had many build ups to the climax. Cassie, the main Character, was experiencing some hard times when she went to a singing competition. Although she had some horrible she push through them.

The whole storyline felt like a total clique. The girl starts as a nothing, makes it big, then ends up as a being a nothing again (but with stuff I can't tell readers that actually want to read this).

I rated this book a 5 because it had my complete interest the whole time. This book is about a girl named Cassie that has an amazing voice and wants to be a star in L.A. but takes the wrong path to stardom. This book is realistic and I recommend this book to anyone who likes drama, and surprises.

I loved this book! it had just enough of everything. It wasn't very funny but I liked it because this is the stuff that happens in real life. I recommended this book to girls mostly because it is about a girl's problem/life and I think girls would rather read about a singer but boys could too!

Didn't like this as much as the other two Surviving Southside titles. I know it happens just like this in real life but this girl was pretty dim.
