I swear I almost gave up finishing this book several times. I know it is a Christian novel, but couldn't it have had some excitement? And the main character, Jules.....aughhhhhh! The typical, judgemental Christian. Everyone in the book was too perfect! It seems when one character, Maxine, was imperfect the author just wrote her off as a complete failure. And the reverse racism bit was so tiring! There is nothing wrong with a BLACK mother wanting to see her son with a BLACK woman and someone who can understand his struggles as a BLACK MAN. That is not racist! It just so happens the author had to make the black women he dated no good while the lily white girl was made perfect? So pathetic! I would NEVER read another book from this author.

Admirable debut. Love that this novel is set in Toronto's Black community, a setting not seen too often in any fiction genre of which I'm aware. Not predictable but also not surprising. Just a nice, steady-paced romance.

Title: Not My Cup Of Tea
Man Enough For Me by Rhonda Bowen

Rhonda Bowen's main character, Jules Jackson is a single, well-put-together woman that is an over-thinker and as one of the most overbearing, up in your business, always has something negative to say mother. And while Jules' mother makes it very clear how disappointed she is about Jules' life and career choice, Jules also struggles with daddy issues. Unknowingly, Jules upbringing plays a big role in her focusing on work and staying as far as she can from any man that rings any warning/proceed with caution alarms. However, there's always that one guy that can slip right between the walls that a woman barricades her heart inside. And in this story that man's name is Germaine Williams.
To refrain from giving you all the details let me just say, Germaine catches Jules' eye and before you know it, the wall around Jules' heart is down and she is intoxicated by like, lust, and maybe even love. But, in every relationship, or so it seems, something happens and destroys the bliss. Now, the questions that kept nudging me to read more were: will Jules' past issues with trust resurface, causing her to create an issue between her and Germaine? Or is the smooth talking guy really a wolf in sheep's clothing? And guess what? The answers to these questions are awaiting book lovers in this Christian base novel, that is enriched with wholesome and religious metaphors that's good for the soul.
Although this book taught me that I cannot judge a book by the genre, I have to admit the story does lack in the character and reader connection. I can definitely relate to Jules' issues with trust. However, at times her emotions read forced. For example, if Jules were a real person, and we were friends, I would view her as fake--someone that can turn on and off her emotions at any given time. It is as if the main character's emotions were only surface. Perhaps my feeling stem from the fast pace of the novel, but that may be a stretch.
Nonetheless, I enjoyed this read. And honestly, I would read more books written by Author Rhonda Bowen.

I give this read 3.75 stars

Until next week.

This book was tagged black lit at my library, so I picked it up. Didn't realize it was christian fiction. With that being said, I found this book so boring! Im sorry but why are we mad that an adult is pregnant and having sex? Why does she care that her adult brother could be possibly having sex? And why is it okay for her to be be so suspicious of Germaine but Easy comes across like a snake in the grass? I also didnt like the push on interracial relationships. The guy then said he dont like white women. But let's make him end up with one

Story was good but by chapter 20 I wanted it to be over. Seems like the author was dragging the story along and nothing was happening. couldn’t wait for it to be over

Never Question the Man Above,

Jules Jackson is in her mid-twenties and seems to have her life all planned and figured out. She spends her days working as a hospital administrator. At night, she spends her time as a part-time promoter for up-and-coming Gospel artists. However, her tightly wound bow around the package of her life begins to unravel when she meets Germaine Williams. At first, things are picture perfect. However, a series of mysterious events forces Jules to wonder if Germaine is really the man for her.

Under a setting of the city of Toronto, Bowen creates a Christian romance with just a touch of mystery, suspense and drama. Throughout the novel, many characters question their relationships, priorities and commitments. Yet, the church is the common thread that holds the characters together. Through soul-searching, learning to forgive and be forgiven, Jules finally learns that God can be in control if she only surrenders herself.

Overall, this was a pretty good book. However, I wasn't really drawn into the story or the characters. The author introduces one of the major conflicts too early in the novel. After the truth was discovered, this reader sort of lost interest in the story. The storyline is a bit predictable. I knew how the other minor issues would be resolved long before the last page was read. Nevertheless, Rhonda Bowen's "Man Enough for Me" is a good debut in the Christian fiction genre.

I did not like this book at all. I understand that Christians are not perfect but these had to be the dumbest, most insincere, most judgemental Christians that I have every read about. I continued to read this book because I don't like to start a book and not finish and I want to make sure that I have the complete story in order to base my review. I would not recommend this book to anyone even if they have read every book in the world and this was the last one remaining. I would say "don't do it, Miss Celie"

One character is dating someone who appears to be a drug-dealer because he is hanging out with drug dealers and her friends have a problem with the fact that she does not want to be in a relationship with him. Then when the woman walks into a meeting and is made by the drug dealers, he still does not explain what is going on and is mad because she would not trust him after 3 months of dating.

You have a mamma who is a church mother but is constantly telling her daughter she is fat, she can't keep a man, she works too hard, etc. Now I am all for "honor your mother" but it was to the point that IF she had smacked her just once, I would have been able to deal with it.

One character doesn't want to talk about her personal business but wants lecture everyone on how they should handle theirs.

The only that ever made any sense in this book was Easy--the only Non-Christian in this Christian book.

I'm the first to admit i'm not a fan of chick flicks at all. But I'm in love with this book!

Somewhere along the way even before Jules had I already fell in love with Germaine.

This book bore a sense of familiarity. Something about the characters. Like Easy. And I know most of my christian readers will understand... But don't we all have that friend who we try to witness to but never imagine will ever come over to the straight and narrow?

And speaking to my females now.. Haven't we all had that one guy that we didn't know quite where to place so we kinda shipped him off to the friend zone?

How about trying to set up that couple that you just knew were meant for each other?

Yea, things like this just make this book so funny but so real. Like choosing between what you know God wants you to do and what just makes more sense..

I love this book and I love the way how Germaine and Jules matured towards the end.. How their attraction bloomed into this romantic affair that made you just want to see how it ended.. How they went from cute to the inevitable "omg it's not gonna work out phase" to growing and maturing past the obstacles.

It's a love story and I love it.

For a first novel, I think I read it was her first novel, this was a really good book. I haven't read a christian romance in a while and this one was great. While the main characters trying to get together and Jules and Germaine, the book focuses on a group of single young adults who are all christians and belong to the same church. I think I loved it so much because it somewhat reminded me of that age in life and socializing with a church family. There are plenty of God and scripture references without her trying to beat you over the head or jam her docitrine down your throat. I thought the book was very nicely written.

This was a good Christian book! The main character Jules kinda got on my nerves but it wasn't enough to ruin the book. She assumed Germaine, the character she was dating was a drug dealer but it wasn't the case. And she wouldn't leave it alone even when he told her he wasn't. She ended up losing him for a brief minute, but things started to turn around in her life when she started giving things to God in prayer. One of the coolest part in the book was when her friend Easy, whom she had been talking to about God for years, excepted Christ as his personal savior. I look forward to reading another book by Rhonda Bowen.

I really enjoyed this book. I was expecting a good read. However, I received an experience. The author invites you on a spiritual journey through her characters lives. I found myself identifying with the characters, their experiences and their questions. This book was very inspiring.
