SUMMARY: When Kayla Wilson finds a body in Lake Michigan, she shields her daughter's eyes and calls the police. But not before spotting a stranger lurking in the woods—watching her. REVIEW: This love-inspired suspense was filled with action from start to finish. The story is made more complete with faith and romance.
The two main characters, Kayla and Rafe, are both recovering from the wounds of losing spouses. Rafe's faith has brought him through the difficult times and Kayla's 5 year old daughter has been her mainstay. When they are thrown together as Kayla is targeted during an investigation of which Rafe is a part, sparks fly. Rafe is a strong, compassionate, faith-filled young man but isn't sure if he's willing to take on a ready-made family because of his job. Kaya is an independent, caring young woman who is struggling with both faith and finances. Both Kayla and Rafe find God's promise that a 3 strand cord cannot be broken to be the truth for partnership of any kind.
A young widow and widower cross paths when a smuggler is found dead in Lake Michigan. The characters were interesting but the editing job wasn't the best (for example, a woman can lift a Cocker Spaniel but not a 5-year-old? among other grammatical issues) so I'm giving this one a generic "good" rating.
I enjoyed the Coast Guard law enforcement angle as I don't often seen that done in fiction stories.
Kayla and Rafe have both suffered heartbreak and loss, the danger they now find themselves in refreshes and exacerbates this trauma as they fight against the clock, against corruption and against the chemistry that catches them both by surprise with its intensity. This is a sweet Christmas romance within a crime mystery, a great festive read on Kindle Unlimited.
This story had wonderful characters and a great storyline. Two people who had lost their spouse find a connection and God protects them from a serious threat. Excellent writing from Laura Scott.
I love the storyline. It had suspense and love all rolled into one. This was an excellent book. I couldn't put it down for more than a few minutes at a time. I highly recommend this read!!
I appreciate that Kayla and Rafe already knew each other, which made the speed of the romance believable. The plotline was formulaic, but it worked overall.
My wife and I read it aloud while travelling. The romance is quite predictable but it was nice to see a little suspense added on to it. A light easy read.
I bought this book in October and was going to read it at Christmas time. But after reading the sample, I just had to keep reading. I thought it was very interesting and suspenseful. I liked the characters and it kept me guessing until the end.
THE CHRISTMAS RESCUE by Laura Scott is a beautiful Christmas story, filled with faith, hope, and love that are a big part of this wonderful holiday. It is also a book about finding love again while facing danger and hardships.
Kayla Wilson's discovery of a dead body in the lake triggers a domino effect of events. Why is she targeted? What does the intruder look for? The same question is being asked by Rafe DeSilva, a Coast Guard officer who investigates a crime ring operating in the Great Lakes. Not realizing it, Kayla might hold the key evidence to his investigation. Like Kayla, Rafe has lost a spouse, but while his faith helped him survive the tragedy, Kayla did not become a believer. Determined to keep Kayla and Brianna safe, Rafe, however, is not ready for an instant family. But then Brianna is kidnapped, and nothing else matters besides the success of THE CHRISTMAS RESCUE.
Both Kayla and Rafe were first introduced in Ms. Scott's second Love Inspired Suspense, THE SECRET AGENT FATHER, and they truly deserved to find happiness and love they once lost. I love books about second chances. THE CHRISTMAS RESCUE is full of beauty and wonder from the first page to the last.
After reading "Secret Agent Father," I discovered that this was a related book about two characters mentioned in that book. I loved this book! I thought Rafe was a great example of a hero. I could see chemistry between him and Kayla in the first book and hoped the author would build on that and she did! I liked that Rafe was allowed to be a hero without a lot of flack from Kayla. She humbly accepted his help. Her little girl was adorable. I loved her in the first book as well.
This is the second book I've read from this author, and I do not agree with her Christian perspective. In her opinion, it seems everybody goes to Heaven whether they've trusted in God or not. I saw it in the first book and it was in this second book as well...
The suspense was great. I was happy to see that the book turned out differently then I expected...The romance was also good. Though Rafe had reservations, he eventually gave those up. They both treated their "second chance at romance" maturely without all the "but I don't want to" attitude going on. I really, really liked Rafe!
What a beautiful story... And that is where it ends. This is the first negative review I have ever written. It is quite difficult to read a great story when every page has grammatical errors. No joke! Present and past tenses were used incorrectly, words were spelled incorrectly and even omitted. How sad is that? I would highly recommend this book to any English Professors who would like to instruct their class on the art of "correcting grammar." I would also recommend that the author, Laura Scott find another publishing company. Perhaps the editor had a brain freeze... for a couple of months... ouch!
This was fairly good, but it just couldn't compare to suspense I've read by Dee Henderson, Irene Hannon, and Lynette Eason. I never got very interested in this. This is inspirational fiction, but I wouldn't consider it Christian fiction. Although quite a bit is said about God and belief in Him and some scripture verses are included, nothing is ever said about Jesus or salvation. .
This is a great romance book with a little bit of suspense thrown in. It was one of those books when you pick it up you just can't put it down.
Kayla and her daughter are walking on the beach and they spot a body floating to the surface. It brings back memories of her losing her husband two years ago. He drowned in a boating accident two years before. As it turns out, it was her husbands partner.
She calls her brother and tells him what happened and he sends his friend Rafe to come and look after her.
Of course, having Lake Michigan as the scene of the crime helped me want to read this novel. It was good, so long as I skimmed some of the repetative do I love him or do I not. Plus, I learned a more about the Coast Guard.
What a beautiful story of love and faith. Rafe and Kayla were both convinced that they didn't want another relationship after they had both lost a spouse. That changed as Kayla learned about God.
This love-inspired, suspense, inspirational romance just didn't inspire me. I thought it was boring and predictable. It was clean, though, and the cover is pretty.
I appreciate that Kayla and Rafe already knew each other, which made the speed of the romance believable. That said, the plotline, while believable, was formulaic.
