Donovan Enterprises #1-2

Stormy Vows/Tempest at Sea

Rate this book
It’s twice the romance, double the sizzle in this special two-in-one edition from New York Times bestselling author Iris Johansen. Here are a pair of classic contemporary novels that prove once and for all that when it comes to love, you can’t get too much of a good thing.

Stormy Vows

For a struggling actress, a private audition with a young Hollywood turk like Michael Donovan was the break of a lifetime. But Brenna Sloan refused to be intimidated by the temperamental and sensually overwhelming filmmaker, even if it did cost her the role of a lifetime. For Brenna was both far stronger—and far more vulnerable—than Michael could ever guess. And the secret that she was keeping from him would draw them more intimately together with each encounter…and threaten to drive them apart forever.

Tempest at Sea

An idealist and activist, Jane Smith stole aboard Jake Dominic’s yacht one warm Miami night as part of an antinuke protest. But in her earnestness Jane hadn’t fully considered the consequences if she got caught or that her act of principled vandalism would end with her serving as Dominic’s part-time prisoner and cabinmate. For the next two months she would accompany this successful, sexy but darkly brooding man aboard the Sea Breeze as they sailed around the Gulf of Mexico from one exotic port of call to another. Danger, close escapes, and erotic adventure await, but nothing can be more unexpected than their romantic destination.

Ebook. Good grief. Triggering. Boarder-line abuse behaviors by both men. One even admits his behavior in the bedroom is abusive. Honestly can’t see these marriages working out. These Take what they want when they want rich, workaholic men. Get a few degrees when with them dears and demand they give you your own money that they legally can’t touch. Better yet make your own and protect it. Good luck raising kids with them. Ok. I get this is fluffy bodice ripper romance but yuck. Accident selected this oldie instead of another book so decided why not read it. It’s fantastic fantasy for sure…where is my film maker?

The heroines of these two stories are very young (while the heroes are 17 years older) and lack the strength of Johansen's Eve or her friends. I can only attribute it to the fact that they were written 30 years ago when the author was still finding her way as a writer (at least I am presuming that's the case). I was embarrassed by the capitulation of the girls to the two men--it was even more evident in Tempest at Sea. I would be sorely concerned if these girls were my relatives and they gave in so willingly to these older and manipulative men. Thank goodness Ms. Johansen developed stronger women in her later books because I have come to be a fan of her writing style, her plots, and the people therein. I cannot give the same response to these two stories.

The first two novels by Iris Johansen, re-released. Excellent as ever! I'm not sure why she stopped writing romance and turned to mystery/suspense.
