We are on the cusp of a reading revolution. Increasingly, research is uncovering an intimate connection between reading and wellbeing. The seemingly simple act of being read to brings remarkable health and happiness benefits. It stimulates thought and memory, encourages the sharing of ideas and feelings, hopes and fears. It enriches our lives and minds. This unique book offers a selection of prose and poetry especially suitable for reading aloud - to your husband or wife, a sick parent or child, an elderly relative. With short introductions and discussion topics for each piece there's something here for everyone - from Shakespeare and Black Beauty to Elizabeth Jennings and Bruce Chatwin. All royalties in full will go to The Reader Organisation, the leading UK charity for reading and health.
Various is the correct author for any book with multiple unknown authors, and is acceptable for books with multiple known authors, especially if not all are known or the list is very long (over 50).
If an editor is known, however, Various is not necessary. List the name of the editor as the primary author (with role "editor"). Contributing authors' names follow it.
Note: WorldCat is an excellent resource for finding author information and contents of anthologies.
A useful book with short stories or extracts of stories and poems that can be read aloud and shared in a group. I have already used one story and one poem in a reading group where they were both well received. The story was so funny that I could barely read the ending.
I am already planning to use the book again in later group meetings. Delightful.
Loved this anthology. Traditional style, with short stories, poems and extracts from novels and nonfiction works. Most of them were classics and they were all wonderful.
A really nice collection of prose and poetry - some funny, some interesting, some sad. It was also a painfree way to try reading something by some writers I had never tried before.<
The only snag is that this collection is for meant to be read out loud to someone else - something I didn't do. So if any of my friends fancy slipping into a coma, let me know and I'll be round!
i absolutely loved this anthology.its filled with short stories, poems and extracts from novels and nonfiction works. it has a tradition feel about it most the pieces were classics. its lovely to read in bed with a nice cup of tea
