Riding the Star Wars fame this trilogy pretty much mirrors the storyline. The good guys even have their own version of the Force. All the major Star Wars characters & themes are there: Luke, Leia, Han, Chewy, Vader, The Evil Empire, just with different names. Overall not a bad SiFi story, I just wished the writer had tried to develop a few original ideas of his own. Recommended

This book is the first of a series that can best be described as a cheap ripoff of Star Wars. They're not the WORST books I've ever read, (there's a Star Trek novel that holds that title) but I can't recommend them to anyone.

DNF p.50 - the novelty factor that this is a shameless Star Wars rip-off fades very quickly.

If I had read this in 1978, when I was eight years old and waiting for "The Empire Strikes Back" to come out, I probably would've given it five stars. A very blatant Star Wars imitator, the first half of the book almost matches the original Star Wars beat-for-beat, with minor changes (the chosen-one orphan farmboy hero with mysterious powers lives on a WATER world, not a desert world. Totally different!). The second half introduces a few characters not ripped off from Star Wars, and the plot eventually diverges from it's inspiration enough to be interesting. Never tries to be any more than what it is--entertaining, but insubstantial, fluff.

This book was so bad! In a pulpy, takes-itself-so-seriously-it's-kind-of-hilarious sort of way. I picked it up for about a dollar to get me back into reading after a long dry spell, and it did its job--possibly by reminding me how many far, far better books there are out there to enjoy.
