This classic Dutch whodunnit is written by a former Dutch policeman and his main character is an older policeman called de Cock with cee-oo-cee-kay and his assistent de Vledder. It is a very traditional formula that always ends with an explanation at de Cock his house with all policemen involved. This series of books is pretty popular in the Netherlands even after the original writer has passed away the book continue to appear. This is one by the original writer. For international people perhaps nice to know that these books have been made in a very popular tv show with the titlemusic performed by Toots Thielemans.

The book starts with a concerned daughter visiting the Police to report her fear of her father being afraid of being murdered and pointing at her mother as the killer.
Shortly after her father is found murdered and the motive is quickly found namely money. The man was leading a braintrust whose research had them finding a method to save 25% of fossil fuel usage. This McGuffin proves to be the source of death for scientists involved.
Even the BVD gets involved to the annoyance of the involved policemen but they do not shed any light on the matter.
De Cock of course solves the case which closes the book with a small gathering.

The book is from 1992 so a lot of CSI procedures and work is done on an old fashioned way. No guns and chasing just an old fashioned police procedural. A satisfactory book to be enjoyed on a cold but sunny afternoon.
