In Simple Signs, children are shown how to sign 29 simple American Sign Language words. Although some of the pictures are not very colorful the illustrations overall are very clear and precise. Each word is drawn in pencil and the picture next to the sign is understandable for young children. All of the words that are in the book can be used in the children's daily lives.

After reading the story to my class I would set up a signing activity and help the children practice it.

Simple Signs is a very basic book teaching signs from American Sign Language. This book would be good for students in early grades k-2 especially if there is a classmate with a hearing impairment. This could be a great way to connect the students and make the student feel more comfortable. That student could even teach the class even more signs than what the book does!

Sign language is a skill that I have always wanted to learn. It is also a skill I think kids should be at least somewhat introduced too. It has good illustration to keep the kids engaged but also can help teach a useful skill.
