Hanged: A History of Idaho's Executions by Kathy Denhardt Hill provides vignettes of 23 individuals that were each hanged in culmination of Idaho's legal system. Hanged is well written, entertaining, and appears to be geared toward the mass book trade rather than being a specialty book written for specific audience. I suspect the case files and newspaper columns written about each case that Hill collected during her research process contained substantial information that was not included in the book. Hill, however, distills the voluminous information into clearly written chapters summarizing each case.

I'm FINALLY done with this book. It was good and thoroughly researched but the dark subject matter made it so I couldn't read it all at one time. I was familiar with the 10 executions that took place at the state penitentiary but the county executions were all new to me. It was a little dry in places but an interesting look into Idaho history.

Excellent overview of those who were legal executed in the early history of Idaho. It also contains great history of the Idaho territory. Great book.

Really enjoyed this book, though it is somewhat poignant... a lot of these guys were mentally ill, poor, desperate, etc. and there are quite a few where I'm really not sure they were guilty. A great way to learn some Idaho history, and so many familiar places and people will never be the same again.
